@@hudsonbear5038 Sarcasm. Petrol & diesel vehicles do catch fire but almost exclusively while they’re running. Fires usually start in the engine bay. The moment the engine stops, the fuel pump also ceases pumping fuel towards the engine & the fire will almost certainly burn itself out through

I worked for 15 years, for a company developing safety circuits for Li-Ion battery systems. I stored the cells in a concrete bunker away from the house. They were on a fireproof shelf and kept dry. If ever I had to have any in the house the test bench was next to an open window, so they could be ejected outside.
Oh Tony, I love your updates on EV’s😂 Mguy covered this exact same problem on his channel!! And he didn’t mention salt water and Diesel/Petrol cars being affected either!🤣
Actually, on 4x4 24/7 they had a diesel with water in the cylinders. Hooked up a winch, towed it backwards while in gear . The water was spat out the tailpipe. And then, they started it. What? It started.😮 😂
Kind of makes EV trucks that people use to tow boats and then back into water, a bit risky then. Yes, of course you don't back the truck itself in but accidents do happen and at least a diesel truck you can more or less get away with it, but EV. What about EV fire engines then.
It’s easy to remove batteries from disability scooters, its the bigger vehicles that are the problem. It’s the same in the UK when we get flooding in winter etc, and our wet, slushy gritted roads.
One huge positive for the people who's EV's caught fire and burned down their house is, at least they saved a $1000 on fuel by charging at home... 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍☠️

Oh yes, the tow-truck driver might have a place to take the EV, but is he going to put a ticking TB on his truck knowing that at any second it could go into thermal runaway whilst he is transporting it? Is he going to risk is burning his livelihood truck to the ground when/ if the EV goes up? I wouldn't! Who would??
What if you're evacuating in your milk float to keep it away from the storm, and it dies how many charging stations are there along the route? How long to charge? What if you're not the first at the charger, then how long? Oh what a tangled web we weave.
I think we're talking of a 'flooding' situation where the Lithium-ion betteries are shorted out. Pure water does not conduct electricity because it is an excellent insulator. However, water can conduct electricity when it contains ions, which are created when chemicals and salts dissolve into the water. The six most abundant ions in seawater are chloride (Cl-), sodium (Na+), sulfate (SO4-2), magnesium (Mg+2), calcium (Ca+2), and potassium (K+). These ions make up about 99% of the salts in seawater.
Looks like salt water causes many problems for EVS, so the next project must be to remove any of the offending elements, including salt from sea water . Problem solved 😂
One report I saw yesterday was talking about how the escape routes for evacuation were blocked due to cars running out of 'gas'. Mmmmm - I've never heard of that before in a hurricane news report, perhaps that's your EV that's run out of charge preventing the tens of thousands of people from getting out of town.
I know there are a lot of tow truck companies in the US who will not pick up an EV if it needs towing after an accident because of possible combustion issues, so I bet there's a lot of companies who will not pick up flooded EVs for the same reason.

When EVs were new there were quite a few videos on RUclips showing EVs bursting into flame shortly after reversing a boat trailer down a slipway to launch or recover a boat. There seems to be no more postings so they are either censored or boating fans have learned the hard way. I reckon it's the battery gas vents which aren't 100% one way. I understand there are two types, mechanical vents (on cheaper batteries) and membrane vents. The battery is under the vehicle and the vents have to be open to atmosphere in order to vent. Where is all the crap and spray? .. underneath the car. Anything made by man can and will fail sooner or later. Mechanical vents are likely to not always close fully due to crap or just poor manufacture, the latter being something not uncommon with Chinese goods. Membrane vents may be more reliable (in theory) but the membrane itself wont last forever and again poor manufacturing quality may render the membrane itself more permeable to liquids than it should be without having actually worn out and ruptured and a small amount of salty water on an 800volt Li battery array would be disaster.
