It’s a fantastic device. I used it to build an arcade kiosk. 2 years later still using it almost every day and it’s built like a tank with real arcade parts. Batocera is my main frontend. I own around 1000 classic console/arcade games and put them on it. I love Micro Center!
Micro Center is awesome! I was going to buy an X-Arcade and got this instead for $100 on sale minus the retro pi which I didn’t need anyway. I have been thrilled with it and use it almost daily 2 years later. Got a great deal on a Lenovo Legion also. I always check them first for all electronics and gaming.
Went to micro center yesterday to purchase this without the pi built in and it was on sale for$129. Went to check out and it rang up for $109. Steal of a deal. Can't wait to get a pi 4 installed and have a pedestal arcade up and running. Love the videos and keep up the good work.
Best thing atari made since the lynx. I've had mine for maybe a week now with out the Pi for $99 . I put my intel compute stick in there with MAME .119 in it. Might switch to coinops later. 🤙🏾💯
Thank you for plugging it into the Windows computer! My Michigan Micro Center currently (Feb, 2023) only has the RPi version but it's $128!!! Basically giving it away! I was concerned though that I wouldn't be able to connect it to my LaunchBox, thanks for confirming that!
That does look really nice...I have a Tankstick that I've debated putting a Raspberry Pi in and setting up. But what would really have been nice is if the manufacturer had installed a spinner on that thing, for games like Tempest, Breakout/Super Breakout and Pong. Interestingly, I get ads from Micro Center (well recommended for computer fans who like to roll their own like me) and the people putting these out actually have an Atari-branded USB spinner that's designed to replace a button. The ad I saw read that it was going for $39.99, much cheaper than similar spinners out there.
I picked up the non raspberry pie version with the track ball a couple weeks ago for $129 its a great quality, old school arcade feeling controller.. IF your not into building your own control panels.. Just hardware wise.. its pretty much at the cost of components if you were to DIY one.. get this thing!
That's what I was thinking, getting a predesigned and assembled kit -- because I can't assemble a cardboard box for anything. Cables and software, yes; physical analog device things just need ... a bigger hammer and some duck tape. And then i wonder why they don't ever last that long as it sparks and sizzles. A spinner for Tempest would have been nice, but isn't that like the only game that normally used it?
I purchased the 2 player Fight stick w/Trackball a couple days before you made this review. I bought the version without the Raspberry Pi since I already had a 3b+. It was super easy to throw my own Pi in this thing. The standoffs for the Pi were pre-installed and they even included the 4 screws to screw the Pi down. Only thing I'm missing is that on/off switch that you show in your video. I gotta pick one of those up. Overall this fightstick is great at the current sale price of $50 off. Sticks and buttons are of good quality for clones. Can't complain. I threw an Arcade Punks Pi build on here and it works perfectly.
I still haven't figured out how to make the trackball work with my games. I'm using a 128GB image from Arcade Punks, and the trackball definitely outputs when I spin it (I checked via SSH shell), but none of the tips I've read online tell me how to get, say, missile command to use the trackball instead of joystick input.
@@NeilNadelman I know it works in some of the emulators on the build I put on my Pi. Try playing an arcade game that uses MAME and see if it works. The track ball might not be configured for the emulator you're using, for example the Atari emulator. So give different systems a shot
Great stores you have in the US. Mainboards, CPUs, GPUs, SBCs all on display in traditional store shelves ! This kind of retail has disappeared from my country ages ago. Most computer related retail here has pretty much moved to online only with only a few items on display. There are still traditional stores selling electronics but they have very few computer components available, mostly selling consumer stuff like TVs, laptops, phones and various household appliances.
Would definitely love to see you do a MC vid! One of these days (when I buy a house) I would love to have an entire arcade setup with something like this included. Would love to get back into Tekken like I used to
Set this onto a (musical instrument) keyboard stand (or even a ironing board stand lol) in front of a decently sized TV and you'd get a decent arcade type experience that can be tucked away easily when not in use.
Everyone be aware this product is amazing the buttons work well the trackball is responsive and so are the sticks. But the controls for every single game on the SD card it comes with have messed up controls!!! They changed the default button to get into the MAME menu while you are in the games from tab to the C You can then change the inputs per game Like normally
🕹️🕹️🕹️Hey Prime, have you tried to play any games that were originally made to play with spinner joysticks like SNK ikari Warriors and Guerilla War? I love those games but not much fun on a regular Pandora's Box arcade stick. Thanks for your thoroughness and professionalism my man, keep up the great work‼️🕹️🕹️🕹️
They have changed the graphics on the Atari arcade fightstick. The old one had the centipede spider down just below the right side controller. I want to drill a separate hole for a USB spin controller. But I need measurements of how far up from the base the center of the images of spider is. The new fightsticks have that image towards the very top near the white buttons
Love Microcenter, went to the one in Columbus, OH last week and got a mobo and cpu...Big store with lots of inventory. The last component I need is the GPU for my desktop build... and more storage down the road 😄
MicroCenter's website says "In-Store ONLY". My nearest stores are Dallas or Houston. Comparable distance either way. They're also Limiting the Pi 400 to ONE per customer, so, I guess I'll do my Christmas shopping elsewhere...
Great review Prime definitely thinking about pulling the trigger on this..I know Amazon sells it we do not have a MicroCenter in Florida unfortunately..
Yes. It automatically detects it if you are using Retroarch and using an emulator frontend. I play Robotron, Black Widow, Smash TV, Total Carnage with dual sticks. You don’t even have to program it.
Microcenter are not in the UK so I can't get one which sucks. I can't tell for sure but it looks like you might even be able to squeze in a Mini ITX build if you don't mind cutting a few extra holes.
Wish that Microcenter shipped it would be a lengthy drive for me. I see that they can be ordered from Amazon but at a higher price than what's posted on the Microcenter site.
Love when that happens last happened with matt mcmusles freddy vs jason what happened. Funny maybe i am not that picky of a content watcher most of the time i dont notice a mistake or any other reason it would happen
I just ordered this today without the pi3 in it. I will use my raspberry pi 4 and either make a bar top arcade with a 32-in TV or a sit-down pedestal so I can sit on my couch and hook it to the big screen.
Hey, ETAPRIME? I love your videos and just purchased one of these controllers, only without the preinstalled Pi and image. There's definitely tweaking to be done when you first plug it in. Could you maybe consider doing a video to explain how to get everything up and running? I got the Xin-Mo controller properly detected, but just can't seem to get the trackball working with my games. I can't be the only one having trouble, and I've spent the last couple of days looking for answers with no luck.
I would love to see a setup video going over the different setups like pie, launchbox, mame and Dreamcast to learn the way to set up the fight stick sort of like your tank stick video but more than just pie...thanks for all your hard work
I eventually realized my problem: the emulator on the premade image I was using was set to use Final Burn Alpha, which doesn't support trackballs. Switching to MAME 2003 fixed it.
I wish Atari made this product, years ago, instead of the cheap Flashback units. This product is beautifully-made and highly respectable! I hate seeing the Atari name pimped-out on cheap products!
The problem I have with emulators are on games like Pac-Man, the joysticks seem to never hit the corners correctly. Then you have the whole 4-way vs 8-way debate. Did you play any games like Pac-Man, Kangaroo, or Dig Dug on this setup?
I have a homemade RP4 arcade stand-alone set up with some great buttons and sticks but I am having issues with the mapping of the controller for 6 buttons to make work natively for the right order for games like STREET Fighter 2 etc. Is there a guide somewhere for button layouts on RPI4 like that? I have been searching all over and find conflicting setups that just don't work for me well.I have a trackball as well, and that also is an issue.
I've been wondering about how they're selling it with Retropie since it has a strictly non-commercial license, it seems that they went with "Free download of pre-configured software with purchase".
it looks like the track-ball screen response is S L O W, this can be easily adjusted via mouse sensitivity ? Other than that, it looks like it will play awesome !
Is the trackball part of the player 1 usb controller? How does it work in windows? Or does it not? You said it's like a mouse, so I assume there's another usb plug maybe that would connect to a windows machine.
Thanks for sharing! I have a raspberry pi from 2017 (emulation station), and wanted to verify if I can just plug right into my existing pi and it connect?
What's the input? If it's not xinput, a refurbished tankstick or even a new one might be a good option instead. It has xinput now and works on like everything.
Yup, I put a 128GB Batocera build from Arcade Punks on this and it worked perfectly out of the box. Played some Golden Tee in MAME to test out the track ball and it worked great. Not sure about other consoles though, I'm sure they'll work great or can be configured to work.
Just picked one yesterday. Loaded up great. For the price seems very solid. I feel I got lucky was on sale 50 bucks off and I got the last one. Very happy. Great video! I am pretty speachless to see a Atari product in 2020 that is not botched and does not cost a zillion pennys too much.
I used to make Home Arcade Controllers: The Treyonics line of Devastator, Devastator II, and the Centurion.
I miss Microcenter, I hope to travel and visit one again, someday. Cool item, thanks for showing it👍
Looks very similar to the X-Arcade Tank Stick, if the quality is the same it will be a good unit

I really like this game stick. My question is from I saw its reto-pie, so I can load more game and systems on it or is it stuck with what comes on it?
My main question on these dual sticks is whether the 2 joysticks can be configured as a dual-stick control, e.g. for games like Robotron.
Yes. It automatically detects it if you are using Retroarch and using an emulator frontend. I play Robotron, Black Widow, Smash TV, Total Carnage with dual sticks. You don’t even have to program it.
