The storyline and the acting in this game is some real soap opera level shit
Tbh, the dialogue and acting remind me of a lot of the anime I've seen, which is why I never got super into anime.
Dubbed media never manages to have the same impact as original language actors doing the original lines/dialogue. Even if the lip movements are right, the mismatch body language and word emphasis is always off. Subtitles all the way.

Been playing the Yakuza franchise for quiet a few years. Yes get ready for ALOT of cutscenes and movie length story aspects
The English VA isn’t winning any awards, that’s for sure. Yakuza games are also REALLY cutscene heavy, which even for the Dumpster will make it a challenge to make content. I haven’t played this one, but the previous Like a Dragon took a good two hours of intro story and tutorials before it really took off. Overall a hilarious and enjoyable game, though. I applaud your efforts in trying this, Dora
Yeah, not having played any of the previous titles, I was surprised at how long it took for the main plot of this story to start. I mean, after nearly 50 mins of playing, Dora's only ALMOST through the intro/first act setup. That being said, he's not too far from the beginning of the main quest (I think it actually starts up the next morning after the point where he stopped, iirc), so I hope he sticks with it. I'd love to see him react to how weird and surreal this game gets bc, man, it gets weird af.

This game has a few pretty long cutscenes in the first few hours but does eventually get a lot more involved, gameplay-wise. Hang in there, Dora!

DORA, "Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth" is, like, 5+ games deep into a series -- I think it's a sequel to a game that was a spin-off of another series in which your character here was a side character -- so a number of the people you met along the way in this intro are people from previous games whose reveals might've been much more exciting for you had you played those (like the boss of the shoplifting job, Adachi, who was a big character (and a police officer) in the first installment of this spin-off series, "Yakuza: Like A Dragon" ). I know this is pretty cutscene heavy so far (and, admittedly, the intro is LONG af) but, once the game gets going on the main plot, I think you'll enjoy it a lot more. It gets batshit crazy real fast. And, if "batshit silly" is a thing, it gets that too. I really hope you stick with the game a little longer (and keep sharing it with us) bc I think you'll have fun with how weird and surreal it gets (and I'd love to see your reaction to the weirdness). Also, I think the main plot of the story actually starts up pretty much right after the point where you stopped, iirc. So, y'know, don't bail out now!
I know you were imagining it was going to be more like GTA (I did too), but I'd say it's actually closer in vibe to Saints Row. Or, really, like Final Fantasy meets Saints Row. That being said, it's actually a hard game to describe, bc it brings in all kinds of gameplay from classic and niche game genres that you wouldn't expect in a title like this (there's even a whole section that's basically Animal Crossing in the Yakuza universe). It's a little strange but this gives the game a ton of variety and a little bit of an addictive "Wtf is next?" feel.
And, yeah, while the story feels a little cheesy with all the soap opera level emotion and "Ichiban is the hero the world needs AND deserves" stuff, it's worth noting that there's a story reason for all this setup of him as such a great guy, "the Hero of Yokohama," etc.
Hang in there, Dora! There indeed IS a game in there...

@@JoseMolina-jz9hh game is a gem and is like the 9th yakuza game released kinda hard to be peak garbage with that many games plus spin offs. its the 2nd turn base as well all the other havent been. i mean 7 days to die is cool and all but if it wasnt for neebs crew i couldnt watch or play those ps2 ps3 graphic games

This game is uhm, very uhm, "unique". I'd even go as far to say "one of a kind"! Hats off to the devs on this one, they really hit it out of the park with this one and thought real far outside the box in my opinion! The mechanics and story telling really captivates you and makes for an interesting experience! 😊

Shout out to Yakuza's predecessor, Shenmue. Not GTA or No More Heroes, Sega pioneered that whole genre way back on the Dreamcast. GTA didn't go 3zmD open world life simulator until PS2. After the Dreamcast had been canceled and there were already 2 Shenmue games. The reas9n it matters is, we didn't get some of these Yakuza games because they didn't want to compete with GTA, because everyone was giving GTA credit for things Shenmue created. Even more evidence that the Dreamcast truly was the hight of gaming innovation.
