    I work in wildlife conservation and I'll just say that these people need to learn about cameras. All the skills that are necessary for hunting an animal are the same ones you use when trying to photograph them. And the cool thing is that if you use a camera the same animal can be "hunted" over and over without killing it.

    I’ve never understood how pulling a trigger on a high powered rifled through a scope 50 yards away makes you feel like a man. It’s so cowardly. It just makes it perfectly clear that you’re so insecure you feel like you have something to prove. Much more important of course is that humans need to respect animals and nature.

    CONSERVATION: careful preservation and protection of something especially: planned management of a natural resource to prevent exploitation, destruction, or neglect. - Mirriam Webster
    How does this definition fit what these people are doing? And let's not forget that the words Conservation and Conservatism are closely related, so I suppose it becomes a bit clearer through THAT lens... Conservative's go-to method is claiming they're doing the opposite of reality as if no one will notice.

    • @bheanfhiain218
      @bheanfhiain218 3 года назад

      As a wildlife research scientist, we don't use the MW definition. That isn't how conservation is defined in the natural resources field. Preservation (via John Muir) means hands-off/leave alone and is the principle the US National Park Service was built on (hence no hunting in national parks). Conservation (via Gifford Pinchot/Aldo Leopold) within wildlife conservation/forestry is sustainable management of resources so they can perpetuate into the future for use by future generations. So, that means you can hunt and harvest timber, but there are regulations for doing so to limit the overharvesting of those resources. For wildlife that means a limited number of hunting permits, bag limits (i.e., limit on the number of animals a permitted hunter can harvest in a season), limitations on harvesting methods (e.g., type of weapons), and limits on when you can harvest (typically winter when mothers don't have young, no killing hibernating bears, etc.). And there are a lot of species that are not allowed to be hunting (neotropical migrants, endangered and other non-game species like bats, flying squirrels, etc.). Monitoring wildlife populations and science is used to determine those regulations. And trust me, most of the folks in this profession are usually liberals, especially if you're working with non-game species.

Imagine someone sneaking round their neighbourhood, shooting cats with an air-pistol, then cutting their heads off and mounting them above their space-heaters. Seriously though, how quickly would you run from that living-room, but,... make it really expensive...

      "Conservation groups" aka white run conservancies are another big scam in Africa. During the covid lockdown when tourists were not travelling to Africa, they claimed that national parks require covid relief funds because the Animals would die of hunger. Africans involved in wildlife conservation laughed at them, coz ecosystems in national parks will continue to exist with or without us.

      @@stevemokaya7167 That is a lot of angry garbage. It's not surprising that your source in the link couldn't get his paper published.
      There are plenty of Africans leading grassroots efforts in conservation and it's corrupt and authoritarian leadership that tries passing it off as a white man's trick.
      It's also ridiculous to say that because ecosystems can exist without us that we are not a threat to them. There is endless depressing evidence of deforestation, poaching, and encroachment in African parks (try mongabay.com for a sample) and this has demonstrably increased during the pandemic.
      These problems, not some weird scam about hungry animals is what funds are directed to. And the article you link to doesn't even talk about covid, it's just an angry rant.
