i have to be honest, the songs on voicenotes individually are SO GOOD, as an album maybe it’s not that pleasant but he’s talented, just extremely tacky and attention seeking
Considering how talented he is and how he is capable of making hits for others like Trey Songz's Slow Motion and 5SOS's Easier, it's weird he can't make hits for himself. It's like all of the creativity goes out the window. I remember seeing someone on TikTok mention how Charlie makes super bland music and Charlie duetted the video and pointed out a few tracks on Voicenotes that have substance and high production quality. And that right there leads me to believe that he's aware he could do better, but just doesn't.
Maybe it’s cuz he wants to please other people so he focuses on what he _thinks_ the public wants to hear, instead of just doing what he wants.. just a guess

Easy to talk shit when you can't make music yourself. At least he knows how to make music, unlike the untalented trashy cardi b's of today. I bet you'd rather listen to her bullshit than Charlie's REAL music
He clearly has a good understanding of the technical side of music, but it’s also important to have more creativity so that each song isn’t so bland and square
He’s probably more intuitive than technical. According to people that took his class, he just goes by feeling and isn’t able to elaborate his choices during production.
I think it's his personality that throws me off, he is a good musicisan but that's his entire personality, like there's nothing else there. The only reason we know he has perfect pitch is because he (and the media) won't stop talking about it. You know who also has perfect pitch? Shakira. But she doesn't make that her entire personality so people are not aware of it
Right. I mean for having perfect pitch, I don’t really even enjoy his voice. It’s so bland, robotic, and uninspiring. Maybe the perfect pitch is actually a curse rather than a gift.
It's the music industry. Half of the people there are probably born with perfect pitch, while others are almost nearly perfect pitched. But nobody makes a bigger deal about it than Charlie. Dude, my high school classmates have perfect pitch too, you're not special.
I think he is a good songwriter when he makes music for other people. But I don’t think he has that “x factor” that’s gonna make him an amazing artist especially now that he caters to TikTok. He’s the kind of guy who does better behind the scenes.
@@ordersoldier8225 He could’ve given those songs to others and it still would’ve been good. It’s not exactly extremely unique or something that is known by him. It wouldn’t have mattered if he sang it or someone else did

he's already there. unfortunately. and he's not even the massive kind yet. he has gotten things trending but he's not necessarily that memorable on the platform either. like he's still bubbling just under the surface like he is in pop.
this is good. this is it. he just doesn't have much of an identity. i would say most of his stuff is generic but it would do better if he tried. i think he's just focused on being relevant enough. he doesn't necessarily care about his music. which is a shame because he could easily be one of the top artists in the game. he could be everywhere. he feels more like an influencer now. like making some mildly interesting tiktok content is just what fits. he fits into the grey with the rest of the no personality gang. another thing is i hate how much autotune he's been using recently. grates on me man. 😬
“If I don’t get a review, I get sad” so basically he needs people to talk about him or he gets upset Edit: for those saying “he’s an artist, of course he wants outside validation” where I’m coming from is: a lot of people do it for self-fulfillment or as a type of therapy. Not everything is about other people’s opinions. Sometimes it’s about filling your own cup.

Attention and we don't talk anymore are the only 2 songs I can get behind, everything else sounds so bad, which makes no sense, because he's clearly very very talented
I really think Charlie Puth might suffer from 'Imposter syndrome'. He's able to write and produce better for other artist's like Pitbull, Maroon 5, Jason Derulo etc. because he can artistically express himself (vicariously) thru them. But it's a hit or miss for himself as u said. He struggles to unleash himself ABOUT himself due to his "inner stranger" if that makes sense 🤷🏽♂️😓

I don't know why he made instrumental for STAY and didn't make any for himself! When he made it did became hit. Like in See You Again, WDTA and Attention.
@@samibichumani1176 Oh yeah! The Instrumentals to those are definitely better than what he's been recording for himself lol. But I think that's cuz alot of those Big hits, he was teamed up during production. Say Pharrell might provide the beat '808'/snare etc. to make ur head bop on the song, but Charlie produces the chords, strings, piano and even writes the hook, so he gets the larger credit even tho he had help. If weak instrumentals are the reason for his own songs downfall, then he needs to work with the same producers he teamed up with to produce other Artists 👍🏽.
Charlie is extremely talented, I just think the music he put outs comes off generic and tacky sometimes. I liked the last album he put out but it isn’t his best work. Voicenotes is actually my fav album from him.
Todd in the Shadows said recently that he views there being two types of pop stars. The first is the kind who’ll always have enough force of personality and such a devoted following that they’ll always be able to wear the ups and downs of their career and have people keep coming back after each release (such as Jay-Z, Beyonce, Lady GaGa, and The Weeknd). The second type are the ones who have a more flash-in-the-pan appeal and will only have success while they have good or catchy songs, then will disappear once the hits stop (such as Nelly, Paula Abdul, and Katy Perry). If that theory is true, Charlie Puth falls into the second category for me. He doesn’t seem to have a strong enough personality to last him outside of hit songs, and he doesn’t seem to have the following to back him once he stops having hits. He does have talent, but he doesn’t seem to know what to do as of now.
For me Beyoncé hasn’t had a good album since Beyoncé but she has the appeal that fans of hers will always return even if her music is mid. I forget that Charlie Puth exists which is a shame because he as potential to be the kind of artist people will return to.
He has no personality outside of "The Musician" which does not work cuz everybody in the scene is a musician. People like Gaga and Weeknd have an aristic vision outside of music they portray through music, not the other way around.
A lot of artists are making songs that are made for tik tok. Which I get, gotta get those streams. However, if one's gonna treat their music as a tik tok trend, then be prepared for how fast people move one from it. As that's how tik tok trends are usually treated.
SORRY FOR THE PARAGRAPH. HOPE this helps you understand a bit more. the thing is. if youre not a charlie puth fan you wont really get him... yk? hes alr stated everything that would cover everyong hating on his new album (besides fans obviously). He didnt/doesnt really expect it to be insane or wtv and pull many views, but there are multiple reasons why he did everyhitn like this. #1: u can make music from practically anything and wanted the audience to feel involved which is WHY he did everything on tiktok as a platform. #2 he made this song to put it out there and have unique elements and make an ALBUM about HIM since hes enver done that + he really jsut cares if ppl who do care and watch it, if it resonates with them or if they can walk around singing along and wtv #3 the reason he doesnt make "better" songs is bc hes a pop musician. hes gonna make music that falls in the genre of pop music + wtv other reason. he said he can definitely make a song that has super interesting and crazy chord progressions and shit like an "e flat major 711 upside down fucking wtv" but thats not gonna produce a song that EVERYONE can sing along to and enjoy and understand.
OFC: some songs even as a charlie puth i admittedly DO NOT LIKE that much like Left and Right and Smells Like Me, but man in a concert setting the songs "give" so much more into it and its really enjoyable imo. Most of the songs of his new album i pretty much like it or really like it, hwoever there are still some songs besides the two i alr named that arent the greatest BUT i really love how in those songs i can hear a couple seconds of something that i find really interesting and unique or a part that has really good vocals yk?
@@imgettingsomad sorry for the Paragraph. READ THE FIRST SENTENCE AFTER THIS AND TEH LAST IF U WANT SHORT SUMMARY. he is insecure. but if youve seen interviews and him singing with little or no autotune he def can sing just some songs he sings in different keys or drops it an octave or else itll sound raspy and not as clean as the produced version. also he has perfect pitch so to him not being able to sing every note perfectly or at least the right notes and being flat in areas would def be annyoing for him. plus he has stated in one of his tiktoks before that ofc he can do more than what he is doing, but he rather put out "decent" "good" or "trash" pop music that can get out his message easier and make it so that ppl can sing along to it than a song with multiple chord progressions with an "e flat major 7 11 upside down fuckin whatever" (which was almost word for word waht he said as a joke) to make his songs sound different or wtv ppl other reasons ppl have for disliking his songs. Basically charlie wants msg out + hes a pop artist so he makes (in my biased opinion) really good pop songs to convey those messages, HOWEVER he COULD most definitely write some classical or very complex song but make it almost impossible to make it an actual song ppl understand or sing along with. Also, the reason ppl Like me LOVE his songs is because if you dig deeper into them theres some parts that i really appreciate in a song and he knows how to make me love his songs instantly (at least for me and others like me). And this recent album, he said he made it kinda targeted towards an audience that wants to hear this typa music (breakup, sad, pop, unique elements) + that he doesnt really care if not a lot of ppl hear it as long as it resonates with the people who do care.
Its weird because he comes across as super talented yet completely uncreative, I always think of him as a musical genius who makes extremely mediocre music lol
I feel the same. He has an amazing voice and talent. But he stays within the same box/sound in everything he does. We need a sound that really takes a risk.
Honestly this kinda goes into what Stevie Mackey said once, that hitting the specific note is great and amazing from a technical aspect, but too much focus on it can cause someone to be devoid of soul
Charlie is cringe and annoying. Everyone knows that. L&R was only successful because army was streaming it because of Jungkook who carried the song. Like how are you going to collab with someone who literally already outdid you already when you guys sang together at a show? Other than that, L&R would've tanked if he didn't collab with Jungkook and if it wasn't for army. Plus, his obsession and interactions with Jungkook was cringey af. He came across as desperate and it was VERY obvious.
Unpopular opinion but I really like his music, especially those songs that relate personally. Voicenotes was amazing and Charlie has plenty of bangers. I don't really mind the cringey over the top lyrics but after based on what he has gone through it kinda works. But I do agree the auto tune was a little way too much since he can sing really well. But I feel like this is an album he needed to release for his own personal experiences regardless of critical opinions. Maybe after the mixed reviews on this album the next one will be more sonically cohesive and include more jazz influences as he always wanted to have like his transition from nine track mind to voicenotes
We don't expect him to have quote on quote deep music all the time. From the comments I see people simply want him to be creative and put more effort in his work. And really I agree with them. I speak as someone who also loves his music even if it's not cohesive. And I agree with you it's good he released this album for his own experience.
I agree 😊 I think Charlie Be Quiet, First Time For Everything and Tears On My Piano are all great songs off his new album, though I’m not against critiques that he could push himself even further. I do think Loser was perhaps not the best single choice, to me that song is a little more middle of the road than other options on the album, but it’s by no means a bad song. I also think the subject matter of the songs being about break-ups/relationships can get a little over-used and tiring, and it would be interesting to hear about other topics and important things to him. Voicenotes, however, I think is a great album and in my opinion was one of the best male pop albums of 2018! The Way I Am, BOY, Empty Cups and I’ve Been Through It All are but a few of the great songs on the album, with Slow It Down being the highlight, a fantastic pop song that was dying to be a single. He clearly has the technical knowledge and passion for music and really does have some gems in his discography. Criticisms of a non-presence may be a result of label meddling diluting his vision, but it also may be a simple truth that Charlie just isn’t the enigmatic, glossy pop star that is pushed as the industry standard. It’s okay if he just isn’t into frequent performances, tours, appearances and features. In my opinion there are definitely other mainstream artists out there that are more deserving of the criticism and scrutiny that Charlie receives.
I saw him live recently and his talent REALLY comes through on these songs live. Lots of ad-libbing and funky solos on his piano and key-taur, as well as epic groovy solos from his guitarist and bass player where the three of them bounce off one another with their solos. Also it’s muuuuch more evident when you see it live that “I Don’t Think That I Like Her” is a joke song, and when this album came out his did say a lot of the content os about his past. Wondering if that one is about teenage Charlie or something. anyway, that’s just my two cents. Voicenotes is definitely my favorite record by him but once you see him live he is anything but mediocre.

Ugh I’ll never forgive Elton for making Charlie completely scrap the 2019 album, and I can’t forgive Charlie for actually listening to him. I Warned Myself, Mother, Girlfriend and Cheating on You were all MILES above whatever the f*ck he gave us on his album that just came out that replaced the album these songs were supposed to be from. Ugh!
I would rather not forgive Elton for saying that cuz he didn't say what sucks about it... it would be better if he give constructive criticism, whichever area to improve. but can't blame Charlie too since he was at his lowest in his private life. he probably had mix feelings between his love life and tryna release a good album. but damn yeah kinda disappointed those songs didn't fit in the album/narrative :(
I think it was more to do with Charlie trying to relaunch himself as a bad boy, which can be felt on 'I Warned Myself' and 'Mother' and was VERY contrived. He didn't need to do that because 'Voicenotes' was a big success. Why change? But I thought 'Cheating On You' and 'Girlfriend' (one of my favourites actually) were massive improvements. I'm don't think they were actually meant to be on 'Voicenotes 2'. I could be wrong. I think I'd love a whole album in the style of 'Girlfriend'. That would be nice! As an aside, 'Cheating On You' actually came from a beat he made and shared on Instagram that people liked. Basically, a precursor to all his TikTok videos
Charlie and Lauv are in the same box for for me. The last time Lauv made something good was "I met you when I was 18 (The playlist). And I only know like 2 Charlie songs.
I'll call his style as fast food in music as a lot of artists these days are doing. Catering to immature music taste audience and platforms like tiktok and insta where a song just trends for a bit and then is forgotten. I have songs from 70s that sound more fresh than his work. Thing is cheap. His songs sound really out of focus and old very soon. Idk why. I agree he is super talented and he will achieve greatness by keep missong for a while. Coz current albums are like practice bouts. Quick puns sound clever for 3 seconds but they dont make repeatability of a song for the song itself but for a video content the beat will make him quick buck maybe. Idk how money making on tiktok works for musicians. I hope he focuses more on not being a witty teen anymore coz he isnt one.
i don't know much about jacob collier but with the one video i've seen of him i feel like he's who musical prodigy charlie puth should've aspired to be
I also was disappointed by the album considering like loved Attention, Mother, Girlfriend, and Cheating on you. I thought these were lead up to his albums just to see none of them on there 😢
i remember him saying those were originally supposed to be singles but ended up scrapping his album because he wanted a new direction. well as it turns out that direction was a collection of songs pandering to tiktok soo
Seems like he should just be behind the scenes writing for other artists. Honestly, that seems like the better option out of the two anyway. Less stress and more money.
It's fascinating how this guy knows every single side of music technically yet is such a mediocre artist then we have Taylor Swift who can't even read music yet wrote her own songs solely based on her intuitive minds or the constant ringing of random melodies in her head. Very interesting.

I mean that answer is right in front of y'all. He knows he is talented and knows he can do better but won't because what he makes for other artists and listeners is what currently sells and gets radioplayed. Honestly, I would do the same if I were in his shoes. In this economy, I would value a steady income over the chance of self expression/risk via music. He also knows that nowadays the charts can easily be manipulated to bounce off a viral hit. He is smart in how he approaches this tactic. Also I don't really think he wants to be marketed as a pop act or the next best thing in music. He was always marketed, at least in my eyes, a producer/songwriter first.
His second album was so so good and the singles he put out after, and such it was pushing him forward. This new album is good but not as good as his second one.
I came here to fight. I might not care for all his songs, but he doesn't suck. Lots of writers struggle to release their own powerful discography while releasing the same for others. He's not unusual in any way. People just come after him because of the absolute pitch thing.
This review is entirely unnecessary. You provided no constructive criticism. You just shitted on his entire career and for what? This was a very mean spirited review, and honestly not fair. I'm not the hugest Charlie puth Stan either, but NO ONE deserves to be ripped to shreds like this for their work. It's disgusting.
His music is good when he does POP. That's where his voice is best suited and what got him acclaim. When he started doing hip hop or rnb style pop, it just sounded like a muddy version of his best form.
He reminds me on Nicole Scherzinger, she works perfectly with the Pussycat Dolls, but without them she doesn't. For Charlie in this case he works great for others, but for himself it's just not the same.
i loved his music ever since 2015-16 when he had just very few thousand followers. i absolutely loved his music till voicenotes, then i guess he realised that he cannot be in his comfort zone anymore and decided to do dumb stuff, which works out for other musicians, worked out for him too. he went from a guy who's shy making his own music to guy who only songs that are supposed to be trendy. its sad because he has a such a nice voice and he's an extremely talented musician
I love Charlie and really wish he would put more efforts into his craft. He seems very comfortable with just being popular and rich that little efforts into doing more is done. Speaking of "Light switch" I prefer "Switch" by Cédrisian as it is a lot more sexy. Found it whilst looking for Charlie song as they have similar tittle.
Elton really invited Charlie Puth to come over just to dunk on him lol. But I think Charlie will nail the direction he wants to take when he goes independent. Being with a label right now will get you pulled in every direction with little constructive guidance
Heres the thing: the melody of the songs of his album are good but they lack a lot of rhythm, making the songs sound flat, straightforward and boring. Now "charlie be quiet" is the only one who has a little more rhythm to it but the production is a little raw. Its never about how good the lyrics are written, its about him learning how to make his lyrics dance around the beat thus creating more rhythm.
Can you do charli XCXs album crash and why it didn't break through, even though its as good as future nostalgia aesthetically and the production is amazing
When it comes to musical artists, Charlie is my guilty pleasure. I frequently indulge in a variety of musical genres, but new pop songs are a rarity. Charlie, however, has genuine talent in contrast to other well-known musicians, as evidenced by his mostly generic but nevertheless catchy songs.
I've been saying this for YEARS. Charlie is definitely a good singer and composer. But that's it. He's got the potential to make great, emotional, even moving songs. But he just doesn't. At least for me, I always get the feeling that I'm about to get a great song, but it falls drastically. They aren't bad songs at all, I just can't connect with his songs in an emotional level, not even once.
I'm going to need Charlie to do a complete 180 on his career; he's incredibly talented no doubt, especially for others, but I think he needs to move away from pop, alternative-pop or edm, I'd like him to try out r&b, soul, jazz? Also adding I had no idea Charlie was 30, artists like Taylor Swift are getting older and their music is also maturing (along with her audience) not to sound rude, but he should take some notes
I wish Jungkook didn't do a Collab with him in that cheap pop song I'm not into bts music but i was waiting something from Jungkook like R&B or atleast a well writing pop song or just something like still with you
Lyrically some of the tracks from CHARLIE sounds like it still belongs to Nine Track Mind era. Personally, Voicenotes is his best album. I appreciate his new sound on CHARLIE especially on tracks like Charlie, Be Quiet and IDTILHA. It's different from his other songs. But it lacks the mature tone that he supposed to have in his 30's. But I like him as an artist and appreciate his works. He really need to get his act together and focused on making non-generic music.
It still feels like he got played in a way. He has a lot of drive it seems n is a musical genius. Yet he comes off introverted, yet the heck with validity n the powers that be. He'll always have that soft vibe, since he's a cute n quirky; forever youthful. I admire that because some men are so aggressive on stage. I think he shouldn't care n just keep going. The art of overthinking though in the studio could be messed up; so taking a breather a bit then going back to your art; or traveling or doing research on music history; cultures outside where you live; it can inspire you.
He is talented. The only problem is he is not being honest with himself. He still cares what about what masses want than considering and working on what he is worth of.
Having perfect pitch does not mean you sing in perfect pitch contrary to what a lot of people including OP thinks. And I don’t think he likes talking about having perfect pitch either since there’s little advantage to having it when it comes to songwriting or singing (it’s handy when analyzing music however).
It's like there was this one guy on RUclips who claimed that since he had "perfect pitch" (without presenting evidence to back up this claim) that he could criticize your taste in music
I also think Charlie is so talented and wish he would actually apply himself.. he’s over doing it. I personally think he’s so hot but I’m turned off by the thirst trapping because it’s cringy & I feel like he’s not trying to appeal to me, which is fine, he doesn’t exist to appeal to me, it just makes me wonder who it is he’s actually trying to appeal to. He has a beautiful voice and I like the songs he writes for other people as well as many of his popular songs!! Haven’t listened to the album because I heard light switch & loved it but I became the disinterested in the lead up to the release & after it because of the thirst trapping. Hes 30??
his 2019 music was actually better, mother was a banger and i warned myself was freshhh. I hate that "I'll do it all by myself" mentality a lot of artist-producers would have, thats just ego
He reminds me of a male Bebe Rexa. Both have talent but the things they release are mediocre and pander to radio music or in Charlie’s case tiktok music. All of songs are formulated to be popular in their concept but they just suck.
To me, he doesn’t have charisma and his voice is ok…nothing special. His song writing/music isn’t profound. I hate it when people refer to them having perfect pitch or divine or genius in general, too egocentric.
Something about him is unsettling and I dont know why. I feel like the collaboration with him and jk is to get fans to listen to his album because army will do damn near anything for attention if bts or a member is involved save for 2 or 3 members. I feel like he should get someone else to write him music, we know he is a talented producer, but he is unable to see things objectively when it relates to his own music. His voice is good enough to carry him if given the right song and lyrics, especially considering the vocal talents of some singers who are far more famous than he is. I think it all ties into wanting to be able to do 100 things as a musician. When it comes rap the standards are different it makes sense for you to write what you spit to be a rapper, in singing there is a lot more room to wiggle because even if you do not write all of your lyrics or are not a talented producer or lyricist there are a lot more complexities in your vocals that you can portray and are expected of as a vocalist.
It's really surprising to see him in circles with Jacob Collier. He also has great pitch but their music styles are like night and day! Charlie can keep up with Jacob's technicality, but doesn't take the musical risks
In the beginning of charlie's career, his music was great, but i agree with elton john, but at the same time it kinda hurts for an icon to tell you that your music sucks.

Exactly. He makes a big deal about how he uses his perfect pitch to make his music, but the music itself is very square
Right. I mean for having perfect pitch, I don’t really even enjoy his voice. It’s so bland, robotic, and uninspiring. Maybe the perfect pitch is actually a curse rather than a gift.
I thought I was the only one who found this a bit odd…
It's the music industry. Half of the people there are probably born with perfect pitch, while others are almost nearly perfect pitched. But nobody makes a bigger deal about it than Charlie. Dude, my high school classmates have perfect pitch too, you're not special.
Nothing he ever writes will be worse than “Let’s Marvin Gaye and get it on!”
Oh my gosh yes it was so horrible 😭😭
I actually liked that song back then😭😭
Yes that Is the worst song from him. Charlie Is a great album dont throw shade
Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor are the last people that should be referencing one of the greatest soul artists of all time in a song so soulless
I don’t think he wrote it tho did he? Like his first album
What’s funny is someone could fart and he’ll make a beat out of it
So can anyone who has used garageband once
Please don’t give him any ideas.
I think he is a good songwriter when he makes music for other people. But I don’t think he has that “x factor” that’s gonna make him an amazing artist especially now that he caters to TikTok. He’s the kind of guy who does better behind the scenes.
@I'm known to humble people for good LMAOOO it’s true

he's already there. unfortunately. and he's not even the massive kind yet. he has gotten things trending but he's not necessarily that memorable on the platform either. like he's still bubbling just under the surface like he is in pop.
For me, Charlie Puth is so inoffensive and too much of a non-presence to really register that he’s actually more than a songwriter for other artists
this is good. this is it. he just doesn't have much of an identity. i would say most of his stuff is generic but it would do better if he tried. i think he's just focused on being relevant enough. he doesn't necessarily care about his music. which is a shame because he could easily be one of the top artists in the game. he could be everywhere. he feels more like an influencer now. like making some mildly interesting tiktok content is just what fits. he fits into the grey with the rest of the no personality gang.
another thing is i hate how much autotune he's been using recently. grates on me man. 😬
“If I don’t get a review, I get sad” so basically he needs people to talk about him or he gets upset
Edit: for those saying “he’s an artist, of course he wants outside validation” where I’m coming from is: a lot of people do it for self-fulfillment or as a type of therapy. Not everything is about other people’s opinions. Sometimes it’s about filling your own cup.
I think that he simply wants feedback so he can improve imo

I really think Charlie Puth might suffer from 'Imposter syndrome'. He's able to write and produce better for other artist's like Pitbull, Maroon 5, Jason Derulo etc. because he can artistically express himself (vicariously) thru them. But it's a hit or miss for himself as u said. He struggles to unleash himself ABOUT himself due to his "inner stranger" if that makes sense 🤷🏽♂️😓

Agreed
I wish that he did slow motion for himself
Charlie is extremely talented, I just think the music he put outs comes off generic and tacky sometimes. I liked the last album he put out but it isn’t his best work. Voicenotes is actually my fav album from him.
It sounds like a content farm for music, making music just so he can say he did it
Likewise

I don’t mind charlie. I’ve never cared for his music but I still hope he does well.

And this recent album, he said he made it kinda targeted towards an audience that wants to hear this typa music (breakup, sad, pop, unique elements) + that he doesnt really care if not a lot of ppl hear it as long as it resonates with the people who do care.

true. im jsut glad his CHARLIE album after being so unactive in music scene and coming back and hitting #1 globally mustve been so rewarding for him.
I agree with this
We don't expect him to have quote on quote deep music all the time.
His music sounds AI generated.
Agreed, after listening to left and right and light switch I got so hooked

I would rather not forgive Elton for saying that cuz he didn't say what sucks about it... it would be better if he give constructive criticism, whichever area to improve. but can't blame Charlie too since he was at his lowest in his private life. he probably had mix feelings between his love life and tryna release a good album. but damn yeah kinda disappointed those songs didn't fit in the album/narrative :(
I know! To be fair those were probably the best picked songs from the scraped album, or at least that’s what I tell myself to feel better about it.😭
I think it was more to do with Charlie trying to relaunch himself as a bad boy, which can be felt on 'I Warned Myself' and 'Mother' and was VERY contrived.

Well said.
Your comment with "I don't like her anymore" and "Loser" lyrics were so unfair. If a woman wrote that or sung that, you wouldn't say that.

I thought it was honest talking at first but it was Charlie LMAO
I love Charlie and really wish he would put more efforts into his craft. He seems very comfortable with just being popular and rich that little efforts into doing more is done. Speaking of "Light switch" I prefer "Switch" by Cédrisian as it is a lot more sexy. Found it whilst looking for Charlie song as they have similar tittle.
He ain't no Taylor Swift when it comes to song-writing
Elton really invited Charlie Puth to come over just to dunk on him lol. But I think Charlie will nail the direction he wants to take when he goes independent. Being with a label right now will get you pulled in every direction with little constructive guidance

Heres the thing:
the melody of the songs of his album are good but they lack a lot of rhythm, making the songs sound flat, straightforward and boring.
He is very talented yet so tacky. He makes great songs and gives them away and keeps the silly ones for his albums.

No one is more impressed by charlie puth than charlie puth
I'm going to need Charlie to do a complete 180 on his career; he's incredibly talented no doubt, especially for others, but I think he needs to move away from pop, alternative-pop or edm, I'd like him to try out r&b, soul, jazz? Also adding I had no idea Charlie was 30, artists like Taylor Swift are getting older and their music is also maturing (along with her audience) not to sound rude, but he should take some notes

I still can't forget him playing See you again live on a noon time tv show back home, and he was off key.

To me, he doesn’t have charisma and his voice is ok…nothing special. His song writing/music isn’t profound. I hate it when people refer to them having perfect pitch or divine or genius in general, too egocentric.
hes talented but i agree with people saying that maybe hes better just behind the scenes, doing hit songs for others
Smells like me is musically amazing.
I think my favorite charlie puth songs are "way I am" and "what you've done for me"
My favourites are "One Call Away" and "Attention." I know the former is pretty simplistic, but I can't help but smile every time I hear it.
“It’s You. Hi! You’re the problem, it’s you!” 😭
It's really surprising to see him in circles with Jacob Collier. He also has great pitch but their music styles are like night and day! Charlie can keep up with Jacob's technicality, but doesn't take the musical risks
3:28 At least it isn't as cliche as using food is throwing shade at Harry Styles Sushi Restaurant song ... I think I'm the only who noticed that LOL 😆
NGL, the one song I loved from Charlie Puth was his Sexy Shades song lol
That was before he got big break!! 😅
In the beginning of charlie's career, his music was great, but i agree with elton john, but at the same time it kinda hurts for an icon to tell you that your music sucks.
Why state the obvious, he's bad and everyone knows that. Left and right was purposely made to chart because k-pop Stans would inevitably stream it I only like that's hilarious from the new album but that to I got bored in 5-7 listen
His musics stop popping after attention
i liked mother and light switch was just ok... i loved the voice notes album but i didnt bother hearing his new album after light switch
"Done For Me" was his last really good song. Sadly it didn't get a lot of attention.
@@stev6963 done for me is on the same album as attention
@@LemManga I know, but "Attention" was released in summer of 2017 and his album didn't come out until like April of 2018, which is when "Done for Me" was released. Same album but the songs were released half a year apart.
