Charlie Puth is one of those singers like Adam Levine that people have been tricked into thinking is good at singing because he has a high vocal range, but he has one of the most bland and uninteresting voices ever. There is not a single drop of personality in his singing. He's like the singer equivalent of white bread. Specifically American white bread, which is loaded with so much sugar that it's just sickly sweet. He's very marketable though, because he has that high register but not the slightest bit of edge so no one's gonna get turned off by it.
It's funny you say this because last night I was literally thinking about how their voices sound somewhat similar. Not even that they are in the same range, but that they both sound extremely bright and robotic to the point of even sounding flat sometimes. Also, love the american white bread comment lmao.
I don’t want to sound like a boomer but the autotune is really overused. I don’t think that kind of stuff is all bad if it’s used consciously (for effects and stuff). But here it’s just so overused to a point where it makes it sound robotic and annoying.
The thing that bothers me about Charlie Puth the most is his branding as a musical prodigy just because he has perfect pitch. I think his PR team wants to make him into a Jacob Coiler type figure, but they forgot that Jacob’s appeal lies in his passion for musical experimentation and making complicated music theory more accessible. Meanwhile Charlie thinks he’s the greatest song writer of all time for discovering panning.
he's a talented guy and does make some great jazz. he knows what he's doing but it's obvious his music is made to appeal to the mass. it's trying to be the next hit and it succeeds because he found a formula he can keep doing. he's a producer and has produced multiple songs for multiple artists.
I think the comparison makes a lot of sense tbh. Both are Good Musicians, Composers and Producers in their respective genres, but vocally/lyrically they don't seem to have a lot to say, so they lean heavily on these tired, inauthentic feeling clichés. Zero edge.

I agree with the tiktok will destroy music lol granted imo sometimes songs can still sound good even if theyre made for algorithm, but there are a lot of songs you can tell are *only* made with the catchy chorus in mind and arent built with a solid foundation for the rest of the song. the new release Unholy that just came out by Sam Smith is a good example. the chorus he advertised on tiktok soundes great and hyped us up for a long time, but genuinely when the song dropped me and a lot of others were soooo disappointed. the full song just doesnt have the same vibe/scratch the same itch as the chorus they advertised on tiktok.
i like this new album less than his last album voicenotes, but i gotta admit: i have a soft spot for charlie’s music. not all of his songs are great, which is VERY evident, but the man just knows how to make a pop song in my eyes. easily the least appealing thing on this album is the autotune, my GOD at certain times it makes me fucking wince. there’s a first time for everything, charlie be quiet, and when you’re sad i’m sad just…suck. but songs like smells like me, left and right, i don’t think i like her, and no more drama scratch a certain itch in my head that i can’t explain. i TOTALLY get people who don’t like this album, or charlie’s music in general. but idk i dig it lol
I feel like I've never heard anyone talk about just HOW bad the drums on Left and Right are. I think I only heard the intro on like, an ad or something before the drums kicked in, but the kick drum sounds like it was recorded on the other end of a phone call out of a 20 year old Nokia. Also, who is this album for? Like, the actual target audience of this album, am I so disconnected from pop music that this feels alien to me? It was marketed as the next "big album for the gays" but it's the most watered down version of a Charli or Rina Sawayama song while being entirely about straight relationships. Given how he just talks about how much he hates being in relationships in half the album, especially the two closing tracks, I'd assume it's not for teenage girls? Legit who is the target market for this album I don't get it.
@@keeperricky4525 No, I just thought you were gonna insinuate there's some homosexual edge Charlie has that I'm overlooking. I'm gay myself and so reading that supposedly his album is for "us" really tickles me.

very mildly related tangent - you think that audio panning is bad, listen to any old jazz. i been trying to get into john coltrane but let me tell you thank GOD for the mono versions because holy shit the normal ones make me want to throw up. its not bad music but they pan all the melody through the left ear and all the percussion through the right ear and i find it so disorientating. i guess they werent accounting for people using headphones back then so it wasnt an issue.
Congrats on 200k subs Brad I remember that i hated you and your criticism in your demondice video but now i understand most things that you talk about music now Yeah, now it really hits different listening to generic trash radio music
Watching Charlie Puth become a legit pop star is so weird as someone who used to watch his webcam parody videos on youtube back in the day. He's probably so self aware because he used be an Internet Guy as a teen, lol. I never see anyone mention his youtube career, but I guess a lot of people who'd be willingly listening to what he makes now are too young and his channel's been scrubbed since forever ago. I even remember him opening up his intro song shop and me being a dumbass kid DMing not realizing it was a commission lol.

Sam fender is quite generic imo and I don’t get the hype but he really seems like a cool normal lad plus seventeen going under was catchy af
It sucks that Charlie Puth is so talented, yet he doesn't use any of it. Kinda like Drake. Talented, but doesn't use it at all.
department store radio music type beat
Damn bro your upload consistency is doing push-ups. Respect
Charlie be quiet sounds like an attempt to make a 100 gecs song with 0 edge
100 Gecs more like 100 Mets (over 30 AJRs spontaneously appear)
100 Gecs should write for Charlie Poop, they’d do a great job
i like this new album less than his last album voicenotes, but i gotta admit: i have a soft spot for charlie’s music. not all of his songs are great, which is VERY evident, but the man just knows how to make a pop song in my eyes.
easily the least appealing thing on this album is the autotune, my GOD at certain times it makes me fucking wince. there’s a first time for everything, charlie be quiet, and when you’re sad i’m sad just…suck. but songs like smells like me, left and right, i don’t think i like her, and no more drama scratch a certain itch in my head that i can’t explain.
i TOTALLY get people who don’t like this album, or charlie’s music in general. but idk i dig it lol
The album is "for us gays"?? Who said that? I truly didn't know. Where is the gayness? lmao
@@magical-soap5359 I wonder....
@@keeperricky4525 Don't say he is... THE GAY?!🤨
@@magical-soap5359 I don't think so he is, but I do hope you've nothing against gay ppl
@@keeperricky4525 No, I just thought you were gonna insinuate there's some homosexual edge Charlie has that I'm overlooking. I'm gay myself and so reading that supposedly his album is for "us" really tickles me.
Perfect pitch doesn't matter at all. It also makes an artists music more boring and less innovative. Many singers with perfect pitch sound more robotic than a vocaloid because at least vocaloid songs have some charm to them
I kind of like Left and Right, but much like many catchy songs overplay in stores, commercials, and just everywhere is about ready to destroy this song for me
I still remember when Smosh in like 2010 had a contest promoting up and coming youtubers and Charlie Puth came in second place. He's always been able to be trendy online, and yet he uses it for evil.
No....his music is absolutely horrible
Who beat him?
Charlie also made an intro song for Shane Dawson’s videos probably 10+ years ago and used to fake his RUclips engagement 🤪
Think it was a guy called The Receptionist who made sketch comedy vids with construction paper and other arts and crafts tools. Looks like his stuff is all gone now :/
Honestly it's a really good testament to how entertaining Brad is that I disagree with almost all his opinions on the music but can still enjoy the video
200k we have a brad taste in youtubers
I recently found your channel and I've already watched like half of your videos in 2 days
You have some great opinions and humor lol
Bro looked tired asf take a 2 day nap my guy
He got covid about a week ago yet still continue to stream and pump out a ridiculous amount of content - he needs a vacation!
I don’t think I’ve ever been more disappointed by an album, I’m a massive fan of voicenotes, but when your feature with Calvin Harris sounds more like a song you would write then your own album you’re doing something wrong
Your reaction to this album was the same I had with Baby On Baby 2.
Also, agreed. Obsessed is awesome.
very mildly related tangent - you think that audio panning is bad, listen to any old jazz. i been trying to get into john coltrane but let me tell you thank GOD for the mono versions because holy shit the normal ones make me want to throw up. its not bad music but they pan all the melody through the left ear and all the percussion through the right ear and i find it so disorientating. i guess they werent accounting for people using headphones back then so it wasnt an issue.
genius titlecard as always
How did this guy write a song as solid as Stay by Kid Laroi but then goes and makes this atrocity
Left and Right sounds like someone who just discovered the pan feature on their DAW and thinks they're the first person to ever use it.
16:45 Autotune climax
Warlie 🐐🐐🐐🐐
it really could've been good...BUT THOSE ROBOT VOCALS MY GODDDDD
I don’t think I count as a kid anymore…
Congrats on 200k subs Brad
I remember that i hated you and your criticism in your demondice video but now i understand most things that you talk about music now
Yeah, now it really hits different listening to generic trash radio music
Watching Charlie Puth become a legit pop star is so weird as someone who used to watch his webcam parody videos on youtube back in the day. He's probably so self aware because he used be an Internet Guy as a teen, lol. I never see anyone mention his youtube career, but I guess a lot of people who'd be willingly listening to what he makes now are too young and his channel's been scrubbed since forever ago. I even remember him opening up his intro song shop and me being a dumbass kid DMing not realizing it was a commission lol.
You should make a video reacting to and ranking the entrance music of professional wrestling. My personal favorite is the entrance theme of Asuka in WWE, "The Future," it's objectively a great song. Whatever you do, don't listen to the Right to Censor's entrance music.
Left and right sponsored my the 1960s beetles and stereo sound
Bradley when are you going to review more Radiohead?
Best album called Charlie since Charli (2019)
This album just felt like a mixed bag of meh for me. Some songs I thought were catchy enough while others were just underwhelming. In all honesty, nothing much to remember.
At least we didn't get a "Marvin Gaye" type track
Thats because this album and music genre is garbage
give it up for wharlie puth, everybody!
it's just an album for tik-tok, what he wanted
literally who cares if he has perfect pitch i don't get why ppl keep hyping it up, it means nothing if his music is either terrible or boring
Why do i feel like the music would be like 200 times better if it was all dorian electra-fied in both production and vocals?
very dumb question completely unrelated to puth, but was there a stream at some point where someone paid for that kid rock song from osmosis jones?
Yeah but idk when
thanks i've been wondering about that for a while
I thought Osmosis Jones was some obscure 90s cartoon that nobody watched
This is the most artificial soulless overproduced bullshit i have ever heard. This makes kpop sound genuine in comparison. I love how he tries to have a more "hyperpop" sound while making the same stuff that hyperpop was making fun of in the first place
the best song on this video was the waka flocka song at the beginning
