I learnt Food & Nutrition during GCSEs and Food Studies during A levels. Now im planning to take BA degree in Food Science & Technology. Thanks for educating!! (yes people often addressed those who are studying food sci as a “chef” or baker when it’s literally two different things). Food science : how food is preserved and how the packaging helped to extend the shelf life, how lecithin in egg yolk help to emulsify water and oil to make mayonnaise for example. How some food expanded and the changes when its cooking. Its so much fun!
I'm really happy i found your channel! This fall I'm going to be taking my first semester of university with my major being food science. The topic is so wide and fascinating, thank you for making content!
It automatically came to my mind when I was thinking about making a new snack, like what ingredients would make it better and how would I preserve it? Your explanation with examples was excellent.
Yes, I know a couple people that ventured into packaging. Another big area is edible packaging, which food science is a great background for. I believe Michigan State has a specific major for packaging as well.
Hey Abbey! Can you please tell me >Analysis of Foods,Drugs and water. comes under which branch, i mean whether it is a Food science Or Food nutrition course. Thank you in advance
I think you could if you find the right opportunity! The only aspect that might make if difficult is most food science degrees are a BS and that's what companies are used to seeing. You should try to apply to some food science positions at smaller companies (usually smaller ones are more flexible in who they hire) or apply for paid, summer internships which can often lead into a full time job. I hope that gives you some ideas!
Hello I know I’m really late but I would love to ask what the average salary is. I’m very interested in the idea of food science. I want a job that I will be interested and enjoy while making enough money to support my ideal lifestyle. I may seem selfish for asking for the paying salary but I just want to know that I can live comfortably living off of something I might enjoy.
I’m getting a bs degree in microbiology and I’m interested in being a food scientist. Do I actually need a master degree to become a food scientist or I could start with just my degree?
You have a couple options! With a micro degree you could apply for any food safety or perhaps quality jobs and be very well qualified. I also know some microbiologists that later got a master's degree in food science (typically a 2 year program) and then landed a product development job.
Dumb question, why isn't it called "Food Engineering". I'm a computer engineer my understanding of the line between science/engineering is engineering is applied to a specific goal. I feel like with "Food Science" the application is right their in the name, someone is going to eat it! Of course alot of people study "Computer Science" (no I actually studied Computer Engineering but it was an extension on "Computer Science"). Still I think "computer science" is a misnomer too.
Not a dumb question at all. Food engineering is considered a sub-category of Food Science that focuses specifically on how food is manufactured and processed through equipment. Sort of how food flows, is pumped, or mixed and what is the proper equipment to achieve this goal. Hopefully that makes sense?
Hi Abbey! Thank you for creating this channel to enhance the way people see food science. I have a food chemistry PhD so I will love this channel
Wooo I love food chemistry! So happy you found my channel :)
Thank you!! I needed a good explanation of Food Science for a high school course. This is perfect!!
That makes me so happy! Are there any other topics that would be useful for your course?

Are you planning to pursue food science in UK? If yes, I’ve got some queries..
@@misbahshaikh4028 I wish I could but I already pursued BA degree in Sociology & Anthropology in my local university :(
@@s0neskim ohh okayy but do you have any idea about bachelors in food science?
I'm really happy i found your channel! This fall I'm going to be taking my first semester of university with my major being food science. The topic is so wide and fascinating, thank you for making content!
Yay, so happy you found my channel :) Good luck pursuing at university! I have so many good memories from those times
Also, let me know if any questions come up. I'm trying to make some videos that answer some general questions about pursuing food science.

My college department is food science and dairy , I like so much your content about this interested field, Thanks a lot Abbey , keep going on please.❤
I've been in a dairy group the past two years! Dairy rocks :)
Hi Abbey! Thanks for making this video!
So happy it was helpful!
Is there any science behind pairing flavors? Or could you dive into artificial and natural flavors?
Oh, I think flavours is a really good idea! There's so many interesting areas of flavor science
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing this with us!!!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much🤗,now I feel like I know what I'm doing 🤗🤗
You are so welcome
Is the packaging part of your work? I'm curious about the shift away from plastics, and if I can be involved in that while working in food science!

Great video, thanks for making these!
Glad you like them!
What if I have an Associates of Applied Science in Baking and Pastry arts? Could I become a food scientist if I ever wanted too?

Hi abbey food science is hard for study of BSC chemistry students???
I met several people in graduate school that had a bachelor's in chemistry. It's actually a great background for food scientists!
My newest video might give you some helpful info ruclips.net/video/9WT12OwjDa4/видео.html&ab_channel=AbbeytheFoodScientist
I have 3 beverages that I would like to start selling but I need them to have a longer shelf life, who can help me with that?

Lots of claims regarding what is man made foods being harmful. Any of these claims hold weight ?
