Fellow food scientist here! Working in the food plants is more lucrative than starting out in corporate jobs most of the time. I have a 4 year degree and I started my first job at $60,000 4 years ago as a quality supervisor trainee. I started my first official supervisor job less than 2 years later at $75,000 and last year I got a 12% raise. You can be a quality manager with 5 years of experience and those make around $120k at my company. The best way to advance your career within the plant realm besides being good at your job is being willing to move, I’ve lived in 4 different states during my time, but am settling down now. I’ve worked at the same company for my whole career and have been able to build a solid reputation which is awesome and from it, I know many people throughout the industry who I have worked with and they have moved on to new roles and companies. I also love that I have been able to travel a ton too! My role currently is food safety based, working a lot on audit prep in my plant, but I get to help at other plants all over the US!
My degree was Food Science and Technology from a small state school and most of the people I have worked with only have a 4 year degree, what matters most is experience rather than major. I did intern with the company before I graduated
Hi, I just completed my food science degree and wish to work in others countries like USA. Can you or anyone kindly help me with any link I can use to apply for jobs. From south africa🇿🇦
yes please do a video on applying for jobs without a food science degree!!! i’m going to college for food science but i want to work in the field during the meanwhile to get my foot in the door and gain some relevant experience. however, i don’t know what jobs to look for or which ones i could be considered for without a degree 😊
Food engineers develop food processing equipment and machinery while food scientist do food analysis, find the nutritional value of food, do quality test of food in labs, work as food safety officers in restaurants and hotel chains etc
Hello... I'm currently a 3rd year student in RSA doing BSc in food and technology but yet, I have no skills on how to prepare myself for better job after completing my degree... I actually wish to go international in future coz I also like exploring and I'd like to build a new life outside the country but yet can anyone share ideas on how I can achieve all this step by step and also growing financially to manage my life while doing my interesting field. Like how and where can I apply for internships after my degree? What can I do while waiting for my applications to be responded to? What are alternative jobs I can apply for?
For Internships I am not sure where your at but I applied on indeed basically to anywhere. Allot of industries will pay for you to do an internship and if they like you they would take you in. My advice even if you know you want to do Food science step out of your comfort zone apply to like Biopharmaceutical companies some will hire you. Also try government internships to see if they are looking. Remember any experience you have is experience even if you worked in a restaurant or volunteered at a library.
Hello ! I absoloutely adore your videos on food science as I am studying in the same field (it's my second year). Could please make a video on the best universities that offer food science master degrees in the US (or maybe share a link?) , I'm a foreigner and I'm planning on getting my master's degree in the US but I'm so lost with university choices and tuition fees, I've been searching for over a month, I need guidance .. that would be so helpful , Thank you !
What about a general degree in food, nutrition in health? Would a general degree get me a job in the food science industry? I just got into the food nutrition and health program at my uni but I’m not sure if I want to major in food science because of the course load/restrictions.
If you have a nutrition background your options in the FS world would be more geared towards R&D or regulatory. Getting a FS degree would be more versatile, but experience is taken over degree in many cases!
Absolutely! You can use your nutrition background to do things in Regulatory and Nutrition labeling. You can also become a certified Food Scientist. It is specifically called a CFS (Certified Food Scientist) credential where you apply & take an exam to then be qualified in the subject without doing another 4 year degree.
I'm not sure if you're referring to options for a program or jobs.. However, you can obtain a degree or certificate in Bakery Science and there are a lot of roles within Bakery Applications that go with your interests.
Nice job Ms. Wonderful content and information . Also I'm impressed by your level of confidence.I really appreciate you at your work with sincerely. Keep it up! God bless you!
Hi I'm interested in food science I'm really passionate about food but rn I'm getting an undergrad degree in economics and I want to get my master's in food science but I don't have a strong science background. I'm still doing undergrad what are your recommendations? What classes should I take to prepare me for a master's program in food science? Btw I like your videos they're very informational and you're so pretty!

Hello, I just completed my Dip in Food Science and Technology at UTT (University of Trinidad and Tobago), I plan to do my Bachelor in a different country however Im having trouble trying to find a university at a reasonable rate. I would like to specialize in Product Development, does any know/have anyor recommendations?
Why fly out? Only if you already used your GATE for your Dip. The price to do a degree out of Trinidad is so expensive. Try the UK. It is cheaper than in the US. I am currently doing Bsc Nutrition and Dietetics is USC. I plan to apply for UWI MSc in Food Science and Technology.
Heyy. I am 17 years old, i have a huge interests in food and the science behind how particular dishes are made. I want a job where i get to learn how food is made "scientifically" (if that makes sense). Do you think food science is the field that i should go into? Or is what i want related to something else entirely? I searched about food science, but i just want to make sure that it is really what i think it is. So is it what i talked about above? Does it teach the science behind food making?

Yes. Just get into an entry level R&D/product dev job, be good at it and you will do well! No need even for the CFS (in my experience at least).
