First of all, you're beautiful. Second, I'm so happy to see a black woman talk about this career path. I'm a food science major and have been looking for someone who looks like me talk about this on youtube. Thank you so much. 🥰💕
thank you love. I'm glad you found my video! Best of luck on your journey 🥰
what are some areas you can specialize on after obtaining this degree? like for a masters or something
@@Imaslife just wanna say I agree with everything she said above haha. I’m currently a chef but I’m looking to go back to school for a degree in this field then moving to R&D or culinology. How is everything going so far for you? Likes and dislike of the course? How is the job out looking going?
Omg I followed you a while ago when I first decided I’m interested in food science... I can’t believe this video was posted last month and I haven’t seen it yet!! I haven’t even watched it yet (ab to watch it rn) but now that I’m definitely pursuing a food science degree next fall, I can already tell that this video will be very helpful. Please keep doing food science videos as there’s not much about it on RUclips!!
I loved the video! I’m a Nutrition and Food Science major graduating this spring. At my school it’s actually all under one major, however my emphasis is in Dietetics bc I plan to be a Dietitian. I really loved hearing about your experiences!!
I’m doing a Food Science Major and a BIS major. I’m really glad I found this video :)
omgggg you literally had the same experience as me! i wanted to be a chef growing up and i was good in sciences so Food Science just worked for me!☺️❤️ I’m currently aspiring for a Chemical Sciences degree because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do it so i just got a general chemistry degree. but now i’m pretty certain i do and i want to obtain a MA in Food Science so i can get that food and chemistry experience. thanks for this video !☺️☺️
Wow, I've just stumbled upon your channel, i wasn't even watching your A Day In My Life video, I was just listening to the Vlog because I was busy, I kept hearing you mention food science, safety and sanitation. That caught my attention, then I found this video, I'm excited to see someone who studied food science 😁😁 I actually wanted to study this degree but I haven't heard a lot of people talk about it especially in my country, South Africa. I'm excited to go back to school next year. I studied hospitality and have been cooking for few years, I've grown to hate it so much. Now I want to study something that's still food related but I don't have to handle food in that way. Food and nutrition are my passion but cooking is not, and I'm glad I only realised this a decade later, I appreciate the lessons I've learned over the years. I think they will make me a better person in my next future career path 😊😊❤️
Omg yay shout out to UC Davis. I studied food science at UC Davis and was thinking about starting a RUclips series to talk about my experience in my career so far and searched to see if anything like that already existed on RUclips and stumbled upon your channel. I love hearing about other peoples' experiences and hearing about other people who are passionate about similar things!
Hello Carolyn, even I am thinking to apply for University of California Davis for masters in food science and technology can you please help me in that
I am from India
Thank you
Wow, I needed this! Thank you 🙏🏽
I'm glad it was helpful!
loved this video sis, very informative ❤️😍 I agree, “your net worth is your network” it’s so true!!! Who you know is just as important as what you know 💯
thank you sis 💕 yassss. who you know!
So happy I came across your video and channel! Definitely related to a lot of things here and learned new stuff too! Also gives me peace of mind that I'm not necessarily behind the race in this field
I'm glad you find my channel helpful! 💕
I thought about baker science, or grain science or milling science or feed science or even dairy science. This is because I loved baking with my mom growing up and always wanted to help food especially baked goods become more healthier and combine protein and deserts together. I enjoyed more of doing the work then the math and science. I was a very slow student and did not take chemistry and biology in high school. I also took an animal nutrition class and loved it.
Thanks for sharing your experiences..... there is definitely a diff between class & practical applications of those lessons youve learned. im sure this will help others to tap into their career flexibility
Thank you for watching! ❤️
Thank you so much for making videos like this especially for someone who is majoring in Food Science! Videos like this are hard to come by and I really appreciate your video! I am also majoring in Food Science with Nutrition and am currently in my 2nd year 1st semester.
You should make a video titled "A day in a life of a food scientist"! I would loveeee to watch it
Hi Jasslyn! I'm glad you enjoyed this video. I will definitely be doing more Food Science work related vlogs and talk about my career more. Good luck this school year! 💕
Thank you so much for this video! I'm in community college right now but planning on going to UIUC. I'm still not exactly sure what I want to do and was looking at Food Science. It's like this video was tailored for me 😂
I'm so happy to hear that. Thank you for watching. I hope you attend UIUC! ☺️
THANK YOU for this video!! I have a BS in Nutrition Science and I'm currently a teacher in Asia. I have been debating about getting a Masters or not and if I would want to move back to the states. Have you had opportunities in the companies that you have worked for to work abroad?
Thank you so much for this video. I am seeing my degree in a whole new light
You're welcome dear! I'm glad this video was helpful for you :)
im in highschool and taking a culinary arts course in my school. I'm entering my junior year and I'm starting to research career paths. Food science recently sparked my interest and this video has been really helpful and informative for me
That is awesome to hear. I started off in culinary class too:) That's when I realized Food Science was a thing and just went for it! Best of luck to you 💕
i completed culinary arts my first two years, now im doing my 2nd year in food science
This video was very helpful. The stuff you said in this video I am realizing now as I take some of these classes....Like FSHN is no joke...
Heyyy Nya, I'm glad it was helpful! Some of those classes are no joke fr. But you got it! 💕
I have been looking for someone who studied food science and this video helped so much!!!
I'm glad it was helpful! 💕
Oh my gosh when you described how you became interested in Food science you like described what I'm going through right now!!!
ayyy, keep going! trust the process :)
Thank you so much!! I'm about to start applying for colleges and UIUC is one of my top picks!
Omg sameeee ...my parents are not very supportive of it 😭
I love your videos, I'll be graduating with my Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Food Science. I have actually talked with professors at UIUC about applying for Grad school there. You really inspired me considering you are one of the few RUclipsrs that have a career in Food Science. I love your channel!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you Angel! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos. I hear grad school at UIUC is always a good choice ☺️. Good luck on your journey! ❤️
im in high school right now and chemistry isn’t my forte. to be a science major in college, do you have to be good at chemistry? im kind of scared tbh
Food Scientist here! So glad I came across your channel. Super informative video. I thought I was alone out here! lol
Hiii💕You're definitely not alone out here :) I'm glad this video was helpful. Thank you for watching!
Showing this video to my Food Science students 🤗 We’re covering “Food Science Careers” & answering the question “What is Food Science?”
Thanks for sharing! ❤️
This is so sweet! Thank you for letting me know. I hope the video is helpful for your students! ❤️
Hi! Thank you for this video! I’m currently majoring microbiology and would like to work in the food industry after graduating in the US, is it likely that I can work in positions similar to food science graduates. I don’t have any related experience in food technology so I wonder what I should do.
Thank you for this video. I am a Filipino teacher teaching food processing subjects in Senior High School.. Watching this video gives me an inspiration to teach my students very well.. God bless and more videos to come. 😊 💕
I'm glad it was helpful! God bless you as well :)
Rn I’m getting my undergrad degree in economics and I want to get my master’s in economics or food science which are both completely different LOL I like science, passionate about food, and I think food science would be very fun but I’m just a little nervous about applying to food science programs because I haven’t taken science classes or done research.
If I knew more about this degree, I would’ve taken FoodTech in my University before. Idk if they are the same but I would love to have involved myself in this field because I dreamt of becoming a chef 😔 I took a computer related degree instead so
Just a few questions!
I really love working with food and I'm generally interested in food science. I just wanted to ask you if you can also make some recepies as a food scientist? I've heard that some scientist do make recepies based on other recepies (like they just make it heather or something). Also, can you somehow connect nutrition with food science? Do food scientist actually determine calories, proteins, and macros in foods?
Also I want to say that you're gorgeous and that your video helped me a lot! Lots of love 💕
I'm in the navy and currently a culinary specialist. I've been in for 8 years and my goal is to become an instructor and earn my teaching certification before leaving the navy. Then I plan to enroll into the CIA in napa. Any advice in what other classes I can take to make my resume more appealing i.e other joint degrees or classes outside my field of food science like business or management
Girl! I wanted to be a chef when I was younger too! My family told me there was no money in the culinary industry, so I decided to do my undergrad in nutrition and stumbled upon food science when I realized I didn’t want to go into dietetics. I applied to U of I for grad school (and was accepted!) but I decided to go to the U of M since it’s in my home state. I’ll be researching plant based proteins ☺️☺️I’m so surprised at how similar our stories are. I’m looking forward to going into product development in the future. Sending you love! 👩🏿🌾👩🏿🔬
Hi there... I am planning to go to the U of M for food science too.
your goals r mine fr!! my family told me the same thing too! i rlly wanted to be a dietitian and specialize in plant based but im looking into food science for more career paths
wow, very similar starts to our journey. I love to hear stories like this. I'm glad you found food science. Plant based proteins sounds interesting! Sending you love & well wishes ☺️
girl this is so helpful. thank you so much. i have been cooking my whole life and am sooooo interested in nutrition. i want to go into food science so badddd but i do not even know where to start. i am a junior in high school and the clock is ticking 🥺
I'm glad this video you helped you 💞 take a deep breath because you have time. I would advise you begin looking into careers regarding nutrition & learn more about where your interests truly are. Food Science & Nutrition are a bit different, so learn about that & then look into schools that offer the program you want... You got this!
im a food scientist working as research and development, i love my job but the salary is so low here in my country which is very sad
That's a bit different from my degree 😮although the degree I am doing is called food science and human nutrition. Yours sounds harder but better
Do you think its possible to get to 6 figure pay as a food scientist? If so how long do you think that would take?
Can you tell me which country is best for persuing Masters in food science australia or canada in prospect of job opportunities. Please reply me it will take direction to my career.
Hey, can you please tell me how is UCD, Ireland an option for food business strategy course ??? I HV completed my btech in foodtechnology from India. Pleaseee tell. Would be much helpful. Thanks ;)
Saw a video of someone in a lab checking the tensile strength of a burger and thought that was so hilarious. long story short I am applying to uni to do a food science degree.
Hey I wana ask a question that I'm not from engineering background but I want to do food science and technology will I'll be able.to just score the passing marks in engineering section
I want to pursue msc in food science and technology in uk, is it a good career for job perspective or msc microbiology in public health is better than food science
I can relate to everything
very helpful video!
so glad! 💕
Hii mam, I am from India my name is Renuka and I have done my graduation in food technology and wanna pursue masters abroad please can you tell me is Canada and Australia better options other than USA because I don't think so I can afford USA so and also in which countries there are more job opportunities than USA if food sector or industries.
Please can an Agricultural biotechnologist be a food or meat scientist and if possible how will he go about it??
hi I want to study master of food health and environment is that same in food science jobs or not thx🤩😍🥰
Your voice is so clear. 👌
Thank you!
Is studyind food science worthy for undeveloped countries without industries esp countries in africa, becoz honestly getting jobs at the western world is too challenging, i would be pleased if u reply to my question😊. I really enjoy ur vidioes it inspires me a lot. Pure love from south Sudan 🇸🇸
Hi! I really would like to know your opinion regarding 2 things.
1. What do you think about Food Safety?
2. What is your opinion for the food scientist certification by FTI. ?
I am a first year food science bachelors student in India looking on coming in the US and thank you so much for this video it really helped
That's awesome! I'm glad this video helped :)
Hey Srividya ....I just wanted to ask u that in which college in India are u pursuing your bsc in food science.....can u suggest me some colleges for bsc in food science in Maharashtra. Pls tell me the difference between food science and food technology
@@sanjanapatil5756 hey I'm in delhi university
About maharashtra I need to look into it
Since I live in delhi du was more convenient for me
@@sanjanapatil5756 food technology and science are kinda interchangeable but technology deals with more of the processing etc aspects
Mine is bsc hon food tech but we have a lot of science aspects as well so ywa
@@srivihihihi thank u for responding.
So can u just brief me abt what's exactly difference between food science and food technology and hons food technology
Hi. Love your work... How can I contact you ?
Your amazing 🥰
aww, thank you
I went to Illinois and took a FSHN class! It was the one everyone takes, 120 I think lol! Anyway 🧡💙
yassss, that's the one! haha I-L-L 🧡💙
can we get into food science jobs with nutrition major or do you suggest me going back to school full time for grad program in food science ??
Hi! you absolutely can get a food science job, with a nutrition degree. However, the options will be limited for you...It doesn't hurt to apply though and see what you can land. Some food science roles will require technical knowledge that you may not get with a nutrition degree. I would suggest a food science certification or training course instead of a full grad program :)
What would you think will be better and have better opportunities in US Dietetics or Food science ?
HOPE YOU'LL HELP ME WITH THIS.
I think it depends on your region of work! Personally, I believe Food Science is better because there are more options in this line of work. There are also not as many certifications needed, like US Dietitians need.
Is it possible to do food science even if math isn't your strongest subject? I think this career sounds super interesting :0
ikr, i love bio and chem but i rlly hate math and physics
You're beautiful ma.
But, is food science and food technology, the same?
Sorry, this might be a stupid question, but do I have to know how to cook or to be passionate about cooking to study food science? I studied agriculture and wine, oil and cheese production in high school, and that's how I got interested in food science and food technology, that's why I wonder if it's important to have a base in culinary arts for this degree
Hi there, that's a great question. My answer would be no. Food Science does not involve cooking all the time. There are so many different elements in the subject that you don't need to know how to cook or love to cook in order to enjoy the topic.
@@Imaslife thank you!
Omg I do food science as well (University of Stellenbosch) and Im dying with food eng. right now LOL
LOL, good luck! 😄
Kayla, Im south african too and I am just making it out of highschool, my grades arent the best, I will be recieving my final results soon, but may I ask what type of grades did you achieve and how did you manage to apply for this university ? I can talk to you on discord if you want, I am just stressed and have no idea how to pursue this carreer if i dont have top grades yet :(?
Glad to see a food science professional. I am from India i had completed my graduation in food technology. How can I apply for a food science job there
I am not sure but I don’t think it counts here. I think you have to study here inorder to get the job. So for that, take a student visa and come here for further studies.
Did you get to use a chromatography machine (it’s used to analyze composition of foods). What chemical it contains, the quantity, etc.
yes I did! During undergrad I took a Food Analysis class where we did High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) to analyze food components.
@@Imaslife okay thank you! Im really interested in analyzing foods and learning about all the different chemicals including pharmaceutical. But im not sure if this would be the right subject for me.
Totally off topic but she has got to be one of the most beautiful women on this planet... Here bc I'm interested in the topic.... But wow
How much out of your day are you actually interacting with food/products?
can we get into food science with nutrition major ???
Yes! you can use your nutrition background to do things in Regulatory and Nutrition labeling for a Food company. You can also become a certified Food Scientist, specifically called a CFS (Certified Food Scientist) credential where you apply & take an exam to then be qualified in the subject without doing another 4 year degree.
As a chemistry graduate can I master in food science ?
Absolutely! I would check out different University's Food Science Master's programs, and see at what pre-requisites they have. Every school is different :)
I'm a hotel management graduate.
Can i apply for this course?
absolutely!
is there alot of vacancies of food scientist in Canada /or not /
Same question
I am not located in Canada, so I do not know this answer :/
I am studying food science in Zimbabwe and food engineering is terrible lol
Aww Zimbabwe sounds cool ❤️ I'm glad you can relate!
Can u work in the hospital with foodscience degree
yes, you could!
I’m half way done my degree in food science (in Canada) and i have to decide whether to do food chemistry or do a minor is something related. What would you suggest is a good complementary minor:? Or should i just take some business courses and an array of courses. I’m worried about what would make me more employable and a lot of people are telling me some business courses would be helpful.
i went from culinary arts to food science then changed to nutrition science after a semester of calculus 😰 well see what happens next! 😄
how’s nutrition?
@@jenniferlee6526 still a challenge for me with the sciences but i feel like once i grasp the first levels the next one should be more manageable
Is Agronomy related to food science?
Absolutely! Without Agronomy, we basically wouldn't have food to eat 😆
Same here i hate the parts of food engineering but i love about food chemistry and food microbiology. Thank you for sharing about career path it’s help me a lot for understanding what i should do after graduate. 😊😊😊😊
How much physics is needed in food engineering? 😃 I'm currently doing my a levels taking 4 subjects is too much so I wanna drop one. Do you taking physics in A level is necessary?
Heyy , I'm agriculture student from India and i want to do masters in food science / food processing . Am i on the right path ? I just need to talk if you could guide me it'll be great help
I actually fall in the same category, am an Agricultural student and to do master's in food science
Please come to my rescue and guide me. Am a Ugandan
@@ainembabazimellon3629 where are you planning to do masters in food science?
@@sakshimore7755 I would wish to do it from university of Kent in Belgium but because of the pandemic, I may do it from my country.
@@ainembabazimellon3629 which year are you in currently?
@@sakshimore7755 am in my thirdd year, and my program is a four year
Am remaining with one year to finish this level.
Then go for my dream career 😂 food science
The most important thing is 💰, how much you earn
Money is important! In Food Science, this depends on your experience & education 😄
@@Imaslife stupid answer
"You don't need a master's degree to make... bread."
It's true!!!
I would like you to send me your number how I can approach you cause you have really inspired me. And am going to study the same course at Makerere 😅. And I really need your guidance 🙏. Thanks.
Can u work in the hospital with foodscience degree
yes! you could find a role in the nutrition section of the hospital.
