Hi Abbey. I earned my first bachelor's at age 35 with a bs in agribusiness. I chose it because I wanted something different than business administration. However, I graduated when the pandemic hit in spring of 2020. If I did not get sick the year before I graduated, I would have taken a food science course for fun and possibly switched my major. I started to get interested in nutrition and animals when I got sick. In other words, if you get your bachelors in a non-science major and interested in food science career field and wanted to do a degree what should I do? Should I go back for a second degree since I had not the best time getting my first one or get my master's or PhD. What is a better degree dairy science or grain science, or bakery science, or milling science, or feed science? I loved animals as well as ice cream and cookies. I enjoy learning about how we can make deserts healthier and combine food groups together such as vegetables and ice cream to get deserts with more healthier options. However, I don't have good hand dexterity and my hands shake a lot. I have considered going for my second bachelor's degree at South Dakota State or Kansas State and go to a master's or PhD program or just taking the pre-requests and getting a master's program?
Hi, Abbey!!! Thanks for replying. I appreciate you. Cal State LA has a Food Science Program. I'll be making an appointment to see a admission counselor. Thanks for your support.
I have 8 years in the food industry with a bachelors in Food Science and A masters in Regulatory Affairs and these companies still low ball me with offers
Hi, Abbey!!! Great info. Looking to go into food science after 30+ years cooking. I am looking into a BA program in Los Angeles. I'd appreciate any golden pearls of insight into how to get started. Thanks, Rob
My best piece of advice is get to know the professors. Not only are the experts that are possibly globally known but they also know everyone in the food industry and can help you get internships/jobs!
I am working under dairy industry research and development executive. I have food production and technology management special bsc degree. How can I apply to foreign jobs.
I found my job in The Netherlands (I'm from the US) by setting job alerts on LinkedIn and Glass Door. The only jobs that I don't think are advertised well are startups, which you're probably better off emailing startups you're interested in working for!
Hey Abbey! That was so good to know these many perks in food science. I'm doing my Master degree in food science and dietetics. Is there any additional courses to be done to get into the research feild...? I'm very much interested in getting a position of food scientist after my graduation. Please ping me up so that i could do the needful.
Hmm not necessarily courses but if you have the chance to work in a lab, even if it's part time, that's huge! You'll learn so much more by doing some lab work than sitting in a classroom.
If you want to do a food science related career I would highly recommend food science! Many companies only recruit and visit food science departments and the profs will have a huge network of food science professionals to help you get a job. Plus the curriculum is pretty different than general chemistry.
Dear Madum, Your video is appreciating and hope to income such salary. I am a BSc Food and Ms Food Engineer from Bangladesh Agricultural University, and struggles much to get this salary. If you suggest me how can I be paid such money from any source It would become popular job. Please say about me how can I get this.
@@AbbeytheFoodScientist Thank you madam for your reply. Taking Food science degree I wish if I had such types of job in our country or abroad. How can it be
Hmmm this is a good question but I don't know the answer! Where I got my master's degree, everyone just got an MS in Food Science so there wasn't really any distinction.

Oh, what program is it? I'm familiar with food science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Pomona a bit

I was thinking of doing a new video on advice for people pursuing food science or what I wish I would have done differently

Or you could try to get a summer internship in research! A lot of food companies offer paid 3 month internships from June to August.

Hey great video. Just a little query- Does MS in Food Science and Nutrition come under STEM?
Yes, absolutely! The university where I got my degrees has the food science major within the College of Agricultural and Life Science
thanx!
What do you think about majoring in Food Science? Or should I do Chemistry so my degree can be more broad?

In other words, being more general isn't necessarily better. My older sister got a bachelor's in biology and has never had a related job!

Hi Shawkat, I believe the data I was looking at is based off of jobs in the US, so I'm thinking the salary varies by country :(
