Tragically,the actress who played the young lady with spikey red hair died as the result of an asthma attack in her early 30s.Charlotte Coleman was a very promising actress and a sad loss.If you get the chance to watch a serial called "Oranges are not the only Fruit " do so😢👍🎩
I like Hugh best when he plays opposite American actresses. This film needs to be seen more.

I'll try not repeating what other commentors have already said, lol... but sincerely, from the bottom of my heart... THANK YOU for this watchalong! It's weird but I do think you are the first to do so. I recommended this gem (and others by Richard Curtis) a couple of months ago to you as I do to a lot of other movie reactor channels (only if they ask for such suggestion) and then it never sees the light of day... but YOU actually did watch it. As I said in my original comment back then: "I hope you try checking them out if you want a smile on yer face throughout the viewing" and I stand behind those words.
A lot of these actors were already known in the UK but this film really brought them to the world stage; as their film portfolio will show. Andie MacDowell was the star the producers felt would help them with american viewers and thought she was the main star and always introduced her first as the 'headliner' at press interviews. But after a while to their surprise, more and more people were wanting to know more about 'the other person', Hugh Grant. Hugh and Richard have had quite the film relationship ever since. I hope you try more from Richard... Notting Hill, Love Actually, About Time, you've done 'his' Bridget Jone's Diary. You'd think being co-creator of Mr Bean with Rowan Atkinson was enough to put on one's resume, lol...
Fun fact: originally the movie ended with the rainy kiss, but after a bunch of test screenings, the audiences were so invested with these characters, they wanted to know what happened to them after as well. Hence the 'rushed/doctored' photos were created and stuck on the end.

@@shandoratthecinema4098 Like everyone else has sid, this flick set records, all around the world, everyone was talking about it, so any 'similar' flicks will be a distant second to this one, even though they are still good (for example you did enjoy Bridget Jone's Diary), so... any more from Richard Curtis is good, Notting Hill, About Time... And then there some other gems to try: The Commitments, Fabulous Baker Brothers, Stranger Than Fiction.

Love this movie and your review 😊❤. Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn is a terrific movie, as is The Ghost and Mrs Muir, with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison. The Philadelphia Story, with Cary Grant, James Stewart and Katherine Hepburn is also fab, as well as The African Queen, with Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. Alec Guiness in Kind Hearts and Coronets is one of my favourite movies, together with Casablanca, which you've already seen. Shane, with Alan Ladd, Van Hefflin and Jean Arthur is the best Western ever made. Blade Runner with Harrison Ford is the best sci-fi movie ever made and David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia, with Peter O'Toole has epic cinematography, you would love it.

I always cry at Gareth’s funeral. It also makes me that try that they felt they had to introduce Matthew as “Gareth’s closest friend”. They are in love, for all intents and purposes married, as Charles says. It just makes me so angry.

I’m as surprised as fellow commenter @pedrocastillo880 that it’s taken so long for someone to react to this gem (only see one other reaction from a couple of years ago). Out of curiosity I went to check on how it did when it was released in 1994 and found out (according to Wikipedia) that it was an “unexpected success” and “the highest-grossing British film in history at the time” and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay AND BEST PICTURE (back when only five films would be nominated and it was up against Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Quiz Show, and The Shawshank Redemption)! So, it’s surprising that it isn’t requested and viewed more. It certainly has its flaws, in retrospect, but it is quite good and it laid the groundwork for the success of later movies like the even bigger box office success Notting Hill (1999, also with surprisingly few reactions) and the more frequently reacted to movies (despite being less successful at the box office when accounting for inflation) Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001), Love Actually (2003), and Pride and Prejudice (2005, which made less than half as much at the box office than all the others but has been reacted to a lot). I greatly appreciated your reaction and hope more people follow your lead Shandor and discover this lovely film.
Do you know what is pretty brilliant about those movies you said FW&AF help do the groundwork for? All but one are by the same writer(!), Richard Curtis wrote all of those gems... AND was the co-creator of Mr Bean with Rowan Atkinson. While Helen Fielding did write the novel Bridget Jone's Diary, it was Curtis that came up with the structure (to mimic Pride & Prejudice (ironically)) and wrote the movie screenplay. Even Fielding praised him when she was on the press circuit due to the success of the movie, one of the first things she would say is how it was all Curtis's doing.
And yes, I too am surprised FW&AF hasn't been reacted to by more people.
