I hope you watched to the complete very end, after credits. Another 4th wall break with Ferris. Great movie!

Alan Ruck was 29 years old. Broderick was 24. Only Mia Sara was close to her age in the movie. Ruck pulled off looking younger. Ferris was just a guy who got away with everything and things just worked out for him. However I think in the end they valued each other the most. Ruck is a career character actor that is brilliant in everything he's in.

10:13 That Maitre D' guy at the restaurant I thought was the best character with a small part in the movie.

I skipped school to go see this movie. As a 16 year old I thought Ferris Bueller was cool but as I've gotten older I see he's a jerk who plays fast and loose with the people around him. I think this is Jeanie's and Cameron's story and Ferris is just the impetus for their growth. But Ed Rooney and Grace have always been my favorite characters. I'm glad you enjoyed this movie. I love hearing your perspective because you draw my attention to things I didn't notice before, mostly in the ways of cinematography. 🖖🏽

    1. Alan Ruck was 29 when filming.
    2. Charlie Sheen didn't sleep for 48 hours prior to his scene to get into character,.
    3. It's unfair the clueless people like his parents make so much money. Especially his dad.
    4. IRL Broadrick and Grey had a thing going during the shoot.
    5. Not pealing out in front of Rooney would have stopped him from going after Ferris.
    6. They have a doggie door, odds are they have a dog. Duh🙄😏
    7. This was John Hughes' ode to his hometown of Chicago.😇 John Hughes.
    8. I'm not in line to be his "best friend" because I wouldn't let him walk all over and/or Bull$hit me.
    9. GOOF: It's awfully late in the day to have a full bus load of kids.
    10. That same school was also used for "Uncle Buck" and "The Breakfast Club".

I especially liked your thoughts about the end of high school, true in my experience as well.
In light of that, I recommend “American Graffiti,” George Lucas's groundbreaking comedy about graduating high schoolers out on the town in 1962.
I think it is a mistake to analyze character too deeply in comedy. Ferris is his own MacGuffin, driving the plot for strictly comedic purposes, and so his character can’t really be any other way. He is an exaggerated ideal of the non-athletic but cool guy---bold, clever, and affable---that so many kids admire and envy. However, the real point is in that last line about not letting life pass you by.

Such a great movie. When I was high school, I had to convince this jackass I wasn't in a gang just because I got caught smoking a cigarette. He was totally bugged out because of this movie.
