As a kid growing up for me, Ferris Bueller was the definition of the sly, charming cool guy you wanted to be growing up. Broderick delivered it so well. While Hughes wrote him perfectly. Truly understanding and encapsulating the life of a teen. And still does. There's also no greater reflection of the youthful, carefree teenager spirit than Ferris.

As a Chicago native, senior in 1986 and resident of the area where most of it is set…the biggest problem with the film overall is that most of the things they did during their day of “hookie” would have had to be done simultaneously. The Cubs Game would have been at noon and ended around 3PM which means the only other things they could have done was go to the Art Institute, Sears Tower or The Mercantile Exchange in the morning…no lunch unless the game was omitted….and do all before 2PM…the baseball game really needed to be eliminated, to make any of it possible. The Von Steuben Day Parade also occurs in September not late in the school year…and is always on Saturday…not a school day. My classmate from 1986 actually played the girl on the payphone with Ferris…it was originally intended for Kristi Swanson who was later inserted as Simone Adamly in the economics class.

This movie will always be a classic of Chicago like “Blues Brothers”. Although it’s hard to watch Jeffrey Jones in his role given what we know of his personal behavior. Thankfully the “teenage” cast (Mia Sara being the only one age appropriate at the time 😆) and John Hughes with his script make it enjoyable

You know how many times I cut school because of Ferris Bueller?? Just a hint, it was way more than 9 times. It's amazing I ever graduated 😆....John Hughes' movies were hugely impactful on my youth. Ferris Bueller, John Bender & "Farmer" Ted were heroes of mine growing up. Great film maker, under appreciated by critics.
Can't believe Emilio Estevez turned this movie down this movie....It was a classic! Might have gotten him more fame and choices. I suppose he didn't want to play a nerdy, passive guy like Cameron. But Cameron really is the heart of the movie. He brings the drama and heart.
I wish you brought up the deleted scene where (someone) says 'all a woman has to do is get pregnant and she's set for life or whatever' and the test audience flipped the sh*t
OMG! I remember the TV version. Maybe, I even saw the "kiss the sister" episode. Anybody remember the "Island of the Golden Monkey" spinoff from Indiana Jone's? It was on for one season. They had it all! A seaplane. A dog with a spot on his eye. A saloon, primitives, hot chick, amigos, pirates and promises of riches. Probably quicksand too! Even the music aped Indiana Jones.
There were many knockoffs of "Raiders of the Lost Ark." "Bring 'em back alive" was the best, starring Bruce Boxleightner as Frank Buck(an actual person), who had jungle adventures capturing wild animals, but having plots with bad guys and quests....Also remember a pilot shown for a parody of Indiana Jones called "Callahan." His weapon was bolos....only one episode aired.
The 80s were obviously stupid, as every successful film has an interesting film color.. That's all it took and so many failed. Today they've leveled the playing field by making literally everything look like a Tom cruise Sci fi, and installed a reaction based viewership so ALL the losers can succeed equally. Crowdsourced Hollywood is so great!
Not sure why but I feel like with all the modern broadway musicals based on 80's and 90's classics like heathers, beetlejuice, mean girls (I know thats 2000's but go with me on this) Ferris Bueller would also be a really good choice to make into a broadway musical
How could you miss one of the most fascinating results of the production? Cindy Pickett played Ferris' mom and Lyman Ward played Ferris's dad. They married in real life after performing together in this movie. Unfortunately, it didn't last and they divorced in 1992. I remember two dates; 1986, when the movie was released, and 1992 when the "parents" divorced, because my wife and I got married in 1986 and our first child was born in 1992.
I know I’m overthinking it but… who the hell holds a full city parade on a _school_ day?! That one always puzzled me although if one embraces all the fan theories (such as Ferris only existing in Cameron’s head etc) then such contrivances are explainable I suppose!
I was watching a film called The Secret of My Success, and they played the Oh Yeah song, i wasn't sure if it was a reference this film or just a song choice.
I’m gonna say it, Cameron is simply one of Hughes’ greatest characters. Truly an amazing performance.

@@howiegruwitz3173 Says the fucking loser replying to every comment on this video, you sad little man.
These movies are all fondly remembered and seen as classics.
Meanwhile, your comment has no likes, and it's been 2 years. Your comment has become lost to the endless sea of RUclips comments.
So, who really sucks here?
Damn but did I have the hots for Mia Sara when this movie came out! I remember thinking at the time there's no way in hell someone like Matt could get a girl like that!
You had me at '9 Molly Ringwalds'.
Alan Ruck is 65. We may get that sequel and strip club sometime in the 2030's. Life DOES move pretty fast.
Even now he looks and seems a lot younger than his age.
@@davidjames579 65 is the new 45.
“Parker Lewis can’t lose” was pretty cool. I used to watch it all the time .
Wow. Great video.
10:51 that is one of the creepiest things I've ever seen in tv show.
Can't believe Emilio Estevez turned this movie down this movie....It was a classic! Might have gotten him more fame and choices. I suppose he didn't want to play a nerdy, passive guy like Cameron. But Cameron really is the heart of the movie. He brings the drama and heart.
Ferris Beuler’s Day Off is a masterpiece and one of the best movies ever made! A true classic!
I wish you brought up the deleted scene where (someone) says 'all a woman has to do is get pregnant and she's set for life or whatever' and the test audience flipped the sh*t
WTF
My best movie :)
the only movie we were forced to watch in school !
no wonder it is so well known in pop culture ?
No but I appreciate your passionate comment.
It was Tales of the Gold Monkey.
My favorite movie of ALL TIME!!! I always had a crush on Sloane
She's still hot
The 80s are still great!
Any chance of doing a review for Karate Kid II?
Pretty sure there was a ska band named save Ferris after the writing on the note book.
This and War Games were my jam back in them days.
Ed Rooney.... man, he was so good in Amadeus. Pity that he turned out to be what he is.
Yessir
How could you miss one of the most fascinating results of the production? Cindy Pickett played Ferris' mom and Lyman Ward played Ferris's dad. They married in real life after performing together in this movie. Unfortunately, it didn't last and they divorced in 1992. I remember two dates; 1986, when the movie was released, and 1992 when the "parents" divorced, because my wife and I got married in 1986 and our first child was born in 1992.
Ruck's terrific acting deserved an Oscar nomination.
i didnt know there was a show for this. me and my sis watched this movie until we knew every word of it verbatim.
I loved the use of Danke Schoen in this movie
I know I’m overthinking it but… who the hell holds a full city parade on a _school_ day?!
That one always puzzled me although if one embraces all the fan theories (such as Ferris only existing in Cameron’s head etc) then such contrivances are explainable I suppose!
Ferris Bueller, the teen movie philosopher.
Yes to Chris Dunn. Mr. Narrator, you shoud see this movie! Well worth it. Anyone who did would know her name, Sloane - just one syllable.
My favorite fun fact about this film is that the actor who played the garage attendant was the original drummer for Sonic Youth.
My friend won concert tickets on the radio and that is how I got to go.
Great job on this one!
great job
Yes, "Twist and Shout" had brass overdubbed--now it would sound like the Eisley Brothers original.
The Isley Brothers sung it first.
@@abdulhouser Yes, my point exactly. (The misspelling of their name didn't help here.)
I actually refer the Beatles cover _with_ the added horns.
Enjoyed that, thank you.
I was watching a film called The Secret of My Success, and they played the Oh Yeah song, i wasn't sure if it was a reference this film or just a song choice.
