Dianne Wiest, for me, was cast against type, and reeeeally showed her broad comedic chops. Completely deserved her Oscar win!

Shandor this movie is set when prohibition was the law of the land. Between 1919 and 1932 if I am remembering correctly. During this time it was illegal to purchase alcohol, but lots of it was illegally purchased at bars called speakeasies.
During this time the mobster was all powerful. The money to be made selling booze illegally was immense.

My favorite guy back with Woody!
    What a happy Sunday!!
He has soooooo many great ones!
    Try
    CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS
    Hannah and Her Sisters
    Manhattan
    Zelig
    Annie Hall
One of my favorites of him acting (not writing or directing, but looks like it) is
THE FRONT!!! He plays a guy asked to “front” for some writers who were blacklisted in the 50s. Great one!

Hello Shandor, I’m really grateful that you react to Woody Allen, he’s a genius and you’re smart enough to pick up the finer points. Now please do BROADWAY DANNY ROSE (1984) Woody stars in it with Mia Farrow. He plays a super devoted talent agent for absurd acts that no one else will touch…and the mob is after him! It’s incredibly funny and heartwarming at the same time. My personal favorite ❤️

I second that suggestion! It's at the top of my list of his films.

Yes, Danny Rose, one of his many best, also the somewhat related great “Radio Days” 👌

Wonderful reaction as usual! What's next on the Woody Allen reactions? Oh, and I'm interested in what instrument you played in the band you were in. You have a good sense of recognizing creativity within an ensemble like this film and an artistic interest in music is very similar, isn't it?

GREETINGS EARTH GUY: I told you you would love this film. Another that I like nearly as much as I do this one is Radio Days. It is Woody's homage to the music he heard during his childhood. It also has WWII, Nazi submarines, the Mafia, Diane Wiest, and Diane Keaton singing a sweet song. Helen Sinclair performance is a reference to Gloria Swanson in Sunset Blvd.

RADIO DAYS is gorgeous!!! it is Woody Allen's tribute to AMARCORD by Fellini. RADIO DAYS beautifully tells the story of a family and their life during ww2 in nyc through memories of the family listening to the radio. it ends up being very moving as well as very very funny. wonderful actors all around in RADIO DAYS. including again, a wonderful Dianne Weist performance.
Mia Farrow is also marvelous . She gets to play a gangster's moll in the beginning who takes voice lessons and becomes a gossip columnist and the toast of nyc celebrity. so she kind of gets to do 2 performances. the whole film is a delight. you will love it. for real.

    Excellent!
Another great Woody Allen homage period piece is "Radio Days" (1987)
Another Woody Allen film that explicitly deals with philosophical questions of morality is "Crimes and Misdemeanors" (1989)

The combination of Chazz Palminteri, John Cusack, and Diane Wiest is really unexpected and special. And that other actress (not the annoying one) is Tracey Ullman, whose show debuted The Simpsons in the late '80s.

This is a perfect little film. gorgeous. that script! those actors! it is just a knock-out! this film and PURPLE ROSE CAIRO are two of my very favorite films. PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO is one of my top 5 favorite films. Dianne Weist has a wonderful featured role in it as well. it was her first film with Woody Allen. She then went on to win the Oscar twice from his films.
when Woody's films were good-they were great. and the performances are always stunning. and 5 different female performances have won the Oscar from one of his films. Cate Blanchett/BLUE JASMINE. Diane Keaton/ANNIE HALL. Mira Sorvino/MIGHTY APHRODITE. and DIANNE WEIST won best supporting actress twice from BULLETS OVER BROADWAY and HANNAH AND HER SISTERS. so glad you loved this film. all of these films are pretty great, and a couple are classics. check them out. I love your channel. thanks for posting.

This came out shortly after his notorious break up with Mia Farrow, and I get the feeling it was his exploration of what it means to be a good artist as opposed to a good person. Great film.

Check out Woody Allen’s excellent “Stardust Memories”, his third person take on other’s takes on him at the height of his popularity. He denies it’s about himself, but it most obviously is.

6:16 - Holy crap! I was thinking that hallway looked familiar...and I was right! Check out this scene with Luca Brasi walking down a hallway from The Godfather: ruclips.net/video/Ad_i_MK2UjQ/видео.htmlsi=zQpe8sV_ZJDUMJSI&t=50 Same hallway! (After a bit of research...it's the Hotel Edison in New York City.)

Something interesting that I noticed...Olive is established as a being terrible actress...but, in the scene where Nick almost catches her with Warner, she was able to act well enough to convince Nick that she wasn't cheating on him.

I’m submitting a reaction request: Ladyhawke (1985), starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Rutger Hauer, and Matthew Broderick. It’s got everything: comedy, drama, action, romance, fantasy/magic… It’s really a very unique movie. I haven’t seen anyone react to it, so far.
