- Lemon Dates Pickle | നാരങ്ങാ ഈന്തപ്പഴം അച്ചാർ
Ingredients:
Gingelly oil 1/3 c
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Ginger 2 tsp
Garlic 3 tsp
Curry leaves few
K chilli powder 3 tbsp
Red chilli powder 1 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida 1/2 tsp( compounded)
Fenugreek powder 1/2 tsp
Vinegar 1/3 c
Sugar 2 tbsp
Dates 1 c (125 g)
Salt 1 1/2 tsp + 2 tbsp
Lime 250 g

Belated onam wishes to you Mahima. Hope Onam went well for all of you at home. I have a question. How did people earlier make pickles without the kashmiri chilli? I remember as a child that there was never a mention of Kashmiri chilli in Amma's tharavad. This trend is about 2 decades old. What chilli did they use then? 😀 Can Palm sugar be added instead of refined sugar?
Those days regular chilli powder was used.

Keep it for few weeks. Add more sugar and vinegar if you find it too bitter
