Unfortunately I didn't realise the problem until I recorded 200+ files covering more than 30 turns, which I can't replay/re-record without restarting the whole campaign because legendary difficulty. I'm still making a part 3 covering that part of the campaign, but it's going to take a lot of extra work and time to try and piece together something coherent. I'm also going to Europe for a 2-month-long holiday (starting this evening!) and I won't be able to work on it again until I get back. I was hoping to have another "How to play..." video finished before I left on holiday, but I also lost some of that footage to the same bug, so it's only about 80% done. So sorry for the content drought, but I'll have something to post pretty soon after I get back. Expect the next upload to be in early March. If a commander actually managed to win battles like these back in they day, they would have ascended into the realm of myth. One victory is a miracle. The rest just show that maybe western rome is God's chosen people.

So many great memories of legendary western Rome, so many, many, many battles over small cities, and the rebellions, oh the rebellions watching your videos makes me want to do it all over again.
This is actually true I experienced it several times I commented long ago a tactic i used in my campaign in another video. If u wanna win or have it easier, fight EVERY battle. Rome might be in crisis, but different to history itself, u r still capable of recruiting Good type of soldiers instead of barbarians and mercs. Rome's infantry has quality even though it is economically weak. Trust your pila and sword, the thoughness of cluster formations, deployables, your general, light cavalry to hit repeteadly and fire arrows. Different to other TW games and the difficulty of the many hard factions, in Attila, EVERY soldier u have is ESSENTIAL for the survival of the cities. Make your men stand close and hold the enemy push to encircle the barbarians and secure the income! Roma Victor! Once u have an actual army, and good quality of troops, u are basically unbeatable, as Roman infantry becomes professional and super adaptable
One of the things I want back the most is promoting remarkable officers from armies or garrisons into generals like the classic total war games, specially fighting so many garrison battles in Attila would have been an extremely welcome addition. I miss the classic historical total war games.
I havent seen a cavalry that powerful since Mongols steamrolled my Rus infantry in Medieval II. Yrridan is one truly blessed by the hand of almighty Tengri.

Currently, the Chinese martial artists are the masters of spears, while the Japanese are the masters of swords, however the Japanese sword arts gain more attention and reach a mythical status in the end.
I’ve been in moments where I’ve been outnumbered 5 to 1 and still came out on top and it is always glorious. Total War is truly a gift from the gods of Rome

I Installed TW-Attila the other day, and chose the Western Roman Empire just because Latin Christianity is the faction's religion. I went in blindly and picked easy mode (don't judge me) not knowing what would happen. Suddenly, not 10 minutes in, thousands of Saxons invaded my settlement with a Garrison army of 400. It was a valiant defeat, bless those men. I'm currently struggling in making my people happy and healthy. Some major defeats, some major victories. Nonetheless I'm losing men, it's either they die fighting the enemy, or die fighting me. I just lost the British Isles. Enemies are everywhere, I'm holding to my eastern ally for dear life. God help me.

The Roman Empire had the unhealthy tendency of constantly creating plots that ended with their best commanders assassinated. And that only got worse from the ending of the 2nd century onwards. Even when the Empire got divided and the West got constantly attacked... The great general Stilicho The emperor Majorian The general Flavius Aetius. All killed by weaker and pathetic men.
@@amp8295 For the record you were right, I use all-spear armies only out of necessity in the early game and once I get cavalry I start winning a lot more battles. And about half the time I do just autoresolve battles with all spears because they can often go to complete shit when commanded manually (which is why I autoresolved a lot of the battles shown in my East Rome vid). But occasionally, under the right conditions, Roman spears can pull off some pretty crazy stuff in a manually-fought battle.
@@Yrridian Once you get them deliciously effective Cornutti spears for the WRE, or the Eastern Auxilia and their insane badassery for the ERE, you actually can do super well with spear heavy armies. I love the very balanced ERE armies and more powerful Greek Orthodox religion/better farm lands and trade, but I will always love WRE's obnoxiously powerful infantry legions.
@@jakzine540 Spear, archer and cavalry armies are a bit of a favourite of mine, for excellent balance between anti-cavalry, holding power, shock and mobility value and skirmish capabilities. I sometimes substitute in a few units of melee infantry and javelin troops as well. The WRE isn't bad at that army composition either, making it a good fit for the said army composition for a good portion of the mid-game. Though like you said the ERE is an even better fit because of their Armoured Sagittarii and Eastern Auxilia Palatina. And any Germanic faction with top-tier long-range archers and Spear Masters. And in actual fact in Thrones of Britannia, Gwynedd specialises in elite spear infantry (Teulu Spear Guard etc) and Longbowmen with decent cavalry and one-handed axe units to boot. Making them my second favourite faction in that title, beaten only by, ironically since they're rivals, Mierce.
