One way to explain Skarners massive size is his age. Being the last of his kind and for so long opened Skarner up to more resources and food, making him grow into the massive thing he is now. For all we know, these new brackern, while although not being small, might have still been not that large.
That maybe true but we havent see another bracker, so probably they are usually not that Big but we cant tell. Skarner it our only reference, we dont even now if there are still bracker in the world or even ancient ones. Bracker are a unique race/species of LoL the arent minotaurs or "mermeids". So my point is we event know if skarner is special in his own kind

lore proposal- keep his new lore nearly intact, BUT change this: Skarner STILL is made out of what powers hextech, and make it that his fall to paranoia and violence, be that , piltover simply hunted his kind to extinction, while he was still the only one that saw the good in humanity, hes also the only one who survived the genocide of his kind, thus he fears his ixtal to become the same as piltover or the other empires, and hates the outside for what they personally did to his people, piltover still have hextech cause they have the bodies of the species of skarner to mine the crystals out of but still go looking into ixtal for other resources, and skarner has his protector turned oppressor role be a trauma related thing, instead of just becoming mad seeing what humanity is capable of. I think that the lore of arcane could be played alongside what skarner already had, i mean its never disclosed HOW jayce or any character get the crystals, and whoever has a handle on that trade has to ever disclose that fact in-universe, unless the hex crystals in arcane canon have some other quality im not aware of that would make their originally a biological origin incompatible. also, we could say that skarner is just so big cause he got to live longer than most his companions, like lobsters or crabs. quick and dirty lore experiment, but genuinely unless arcane is gonna reveal some DARK secret about hex crystals i don't see why skarners original lore should be at all incompatible with arcane canon, and also giving him a twist of tragedy ontop of his usually caring nature, is like primo material for making him more likeable! in the lore department seriously feels as though riot dropped the ball.
the lore of arcane is going the rune war side. the only thing skarner need is a friend and a turn his race being dead here too into canon to open up his human side just like the original
So far the only thing arcane said about the hex crystals is that there are voices inside the stone...A LOT of voices. And they all screeched in terror whenever they were gonna explode. So in one way or another, there is something alive in hextech
I agree so much with this video, dropping his old lore for “outside world bad” and making him another angry deity of sorts kinda just boxes him in with Voli imo. His old lore had so much more emotion to it. I’m really surprised they didn’t do some sort of crystalline skin for him to commemorate old Skarner but here’s hoping they make it in the future at some point.
the trinkets on skarners arms seem like an oversight in his design when in his splash art he is the size of a small mountain. those bands on the sides of his arms are so huge its just the metal ring is like the size of a building.
The thing that bothers me the most about the rework is that they said that Skarner's original concept wasn't unique. It was just a crystal scorpion. WHAT DO YOU MEAN JUST A CRYSTAL SCORPION? That's fucking stupid, I want more Crystal Scorpions. What the hell wasn't unique about it?

I miss the movement speed and build diversity we used to have. You used to be able to go full movement speed, full AP, or bruiser. But now all his ratio skill with health so you just have to build tank. And the E having a fixed movement speed you is just a slap in the face.
you do not have to build health specific items. it also helps that the majority of damage items that syngerize well with skarner come with health. ap? protobelt liandries. bruiser? titanitc steraks etc etc. full movement speed was just a meme tbh his old scalings might as well have not existed. the "build diversity" was borderline a lie and carried by mains who just pilot skarner well anyway
3:18 if I had to speculate, maybe something to do with his then-passive adding his capture points in the Jungle. Deleting his old passive from the game could theoretically require fine combing the map files of Summoner's Rift or Howling Abyss to revise any lines of code that interacted with the passive.
The only interaction I wanted to see with his new kit, was ulting someone and dragging them away under the wall by comboing e. Other champs (ksante) do it; idk why they couldnt let the giant, earthbending scorpion cosplay one of his wormy cousins from the Tremors franchise, but it would have been so fun (not to mention ridiculously terrifying). 💔
I was one of the very few Skarner players of LAS, and when Riot showed his rework ... I hated it. He doesn't feel like Skarner anymore, she's not the infinite mana monster who spams Q and CCs all day, he's more lile playing a Sion without the infinite stacks of health but after playing it, I really liked it, a lot! but... I still like more pre-rework. the enemy team never expected the damage from a Skarner with Conqueror and Trinity, or a fully tank Skarner with Iceborn guanlet. but now? he builts only like a tank, if you want to use him perfectly you have to use always Deadman Grasp with Heartsteel and Sterakk. I love Skarner rework but ... Prerework is unique.
I'm writing down my thoughts before the video has even premiered, and I'll probably edit my comment once I've watched it. I used to main Skarner before his rework, and he was BY FAR my favourite champion both gameplay and character wise, but the rework has just killed him for me. I'm not the biggest fan of his new character, as he's just a brooding edgelord that's not-... very compelling, and he also just looks-... kind of ugly. (Don't even get me started on how they RUINED Earthrune, which was BY FAR my favourite of his skins...) The thing that killed him for me is that they turned him from a speedy little guy that could build VIRTUALLY ANYTHING (you could be an AP midlaner, a top lane bruiser, a tank, a support, a mosquito, etc, etc) and use ALMOST ANY RUNE POSSIBLE into a generic, slow moving tank! It was genuinely so fun to be able to adapt to any situation, purely because of how weird all of his scalings/gameplay were. Do you teamfight a lot? Go get a Redemption! Need some more bulk? Go get any tank item! Need just a tiny bit more distance? Protobelt it up! He also just had so many random AD, AP or health scalings on pretty much everything (or at least 2 of the 3), and now he's just a generic tank with basically nothing but health scalings. Sure, his current ultimate and W have SOME AP scalings, and his Q has some AD scalings, but they're just not enough to give him any build variety whatsoever... You're actively trolling if you build AP or AD items on current Skarner (outside of Sterak's and Liandries), while it was perfectly fine on the old one! He's also just so clunky now, with his E slowing him down to 100 MS and slowly ramping up in speed, and his Q having a LITERAL SELF ROOT. He used to be a fast moving and incredibly sticky champion, and now he's just a slow moving generic tank. (Why does his E not work like Nune W anyway???) I dunno, maybe I just don't like modern champion design. I just wish Riot still had some incredibly weird stuff like old Skarner. I hate how streamlined it all is now. Edit: I can see most of your points, but saying that Skarner finally has role and build diversity is just flat out wrong. Most of that purely came from him being EXTREMELY overtuned. He already HAD all of that, it just wasn't noticeable whatsoever due to people NOT playing him. Hell, there's a reason quite a few Skarner one-tricks just flat out quit when he got reworked, because you couldn't be creative with him anymore! (Most notably, FACECHECKSKARNER)

At the time of making the vid, new Skarner could build many items (nerfed obviously). Old Skarner "could" build anything because the guys who played him, played just him and just makeshifted him into certain roles given the scraps Rito had left for them.
@@vaskopoh9512do you even hear what you're saying? old skarner players makeshifting the character into certain roles with items is exactly the point. it's p much the definition of build diversity lmao old skarner did have build diversity while new skarner has only ever built tank items; end of story. his build path is pretty much exactly the same as it was when the vgu dropped and guess what, the 1 patch when he was overbuffed doesn't count as him being able to build many items because that was literally due to both his scalings and base numbers being overtuned and getting hotfixed not even a full patch later.

@@vaskopoh9512 I played him. You could literally build anything you wanted, full crit, full heal/shield, ap , ad , bruiser, oneshot, tank and it would all work. Lethality was one of the most broken builds too
I used to play him casually before the rework, but I can't care about him after. He needed an ability and visual rework, but I hated what they did with his lore and theme. One of the few things I wanted was for them to keep his crystals. They could change everything else, but why change that? The team said they made the change because crystals are more associated with healing. Which is stupid. Crystals are literally natural knives that are sharper than anything else in nature. Unlucky cavers sometimes die because they fall on razor-sharp gypsum and bleed out. Fire is associated with death and destruction, yet they didn't force Milio to be a water mage to heal.
I feel like making him similar to the retcon but keeping that still remaining sadness due to his near blind trust in humans to do the right thing, even if it means he’s the last guardian that remains, even if means his body will slowly be corrupted by humans, when his heart remains pure yet sad in a human-feeling way. An ancient being acting as a guardian, yet forever tainted slowly by human cruelty even if he’ll never stop believing in the possibility of human kindness.
I was a huge fan of old skarner and i was kinda sad about the reworked one, but after some times i really started to enjoy it, also seeing my scorpion boooy being like a loooot played in competitive league is making me happy
You are so right in the part where you say that there is not even a hint in his old design for his inner kindness. Look at bastion from overwatch, he is just a scary looking turret but the little bird following him around is enough to hint at his kindness. I thing the old skarner design should of had a little flower somewhere, just to show that he is ancient and kind.
I dislike hearing you say that he 'finally' had role and build diversity when he very much had both before, coming from a former Skarner onetrick. You had to experiment to find how to make them work but I played Skarner in every role, granted not often as ADC but I did do it, and between tank, bruiser, AP draintank, attack speed skirmisher, CC bot support, you name it he could absolutely do it. I think largely my biggest issue with the rework is just how clunky he feels to the original, so slow and heavy (which yes I understand is part of the theme) but it just doesn't feel the same at all to me. I especially get bothered by the ult because previously hit ult dragged people sort of like a vehicle recovery truck, with the tether having them loosely trail behind you, whereas now his body remains stiff, as do the impaled targets, which just feels so weird to me. For lore and design I do agree overall it feels like an improvement to fit with the modern League lore but the gameplay is the thing that hurts me the most

for the average player, Skarner was most certainly NOT a flex pick prior to his rework. nobody but one-tricks would think to take him anywhere but jungle. the more adventurous might've taken him top, but that was it.

@@fosterbennington6405 No New Aatrox is a literal bossfight. Giant, telegraphed, sweeping attacks (Q), moves that set up into said attacks (W and E), and even a second phase (Ult). It is a very well thought out character design that sticks to its theme and Riot absolutely cooked with it. Calling it Riven 2 just cause he has 3 casts of 1 move is so corny, especially when those 3 casts do entirely different things and force them to play in entirely different ways.
You know what, with Crystalis skins being a thing, it boggles my mind that Skarner wasn't the first champion to get one. Also yes, old Skarner was incredibly fun. Especially with a cloud dragon soul. I dragged a hapless Ezreal all the way from under the blue inner mid turret to Red Buff just a month before his rework and I don't think I've ever laughed as much in years.
Wish you'd of talked about his new theme some, it's so flipping good. The start of it feels like a fucking METROID boss which is so radical and it has such an imposing feel to it.

Ixtal was beginning to look a bit *too* comfy so they threw in the freighter ship-sized, earth bending Scorpion that can hear you using the bathroom at 3 in the morning.
I definitely enjoyed playing the new Skarner as more of a support than playing him top, but that's mostly due to his engaging tools while being an excellent support to both peel and disengage with as well. However all the diverse scaling he had and continued to lose over the years in his old kit were so fun to play and make fun builds with. Way before the spires were superglued to his kit, I loved building him AP in toplane due to how absolutely bonkers his AP scaling and burst was, it was such a fun feeling in the game of making my opponent go "Wtf is that damage" without resorting to dragging them under tower or to allies, it was just your ability to stack his old passive and having his ult do so much damage. During the era of spires however, the most fun I could have was building him AD/AP hybrid with attack speed to allow his Q CD to be almost instant, immediately shredding someone if they got hit with E, putting them in the blender, though that was also short lived when they made his Q CD longer and do max HP damage. I'm gonna miss my boy though, next to old Aatrox and especially old Mordekaiser, it's just another rework that alienated me from an old champ I used to love.
The issue is that he isn't Skarner anymore. They Aatrox'd him. He's been deleted and replaced with a character who bears superficial similarities at best.
Hooray the Skarner vid! Really happy to see another one about him. I will say that his VGU is a 50/50 case his lore could be better but i can see what riot were going for, gameplay brings the vibe of making a presence in fights and technically his old abilities are still there (like q and e now into one) Will forever miss his more speedy and faster reaction to his abilities and the more damage potential he had. I will however say that his options are still limited to tank no matter what and that was a mistake from riot. Edit: The fact they did not bring the "Skar skar skarner" line back when he is in bush is a crime!
Skarners gameplay design was NEVER bad. It was very very good! We was just out of tune in some areas and Riot absolutely butchered the job of finetuning.

Gameplay, visuals, design and lore would be really great... for a new champion. For Skarner all things above could work... if not for turning him from victim to victimizer in lore.
I am immeasurably disapointed in the gameplay changes, it killed the build variety, totally masacred. You could built full ap, lethality, support, full move speed, bruiser or full tank with old Skarner. I feel like i have to play him that way.

As a fellow godzilla and monster fan i can see the point with scarner's size becouse the titanic creature fits more to godzilla in the MV for being a gardian of nature and earth, but with scarner being the size of a house is more approchabe and feel more personal. Btw nice vid :)
I loved old skarner, got my Mastery 7 like 7 years ago. I remember predator + ghost + an active item I don't remember the name and zooming towards one single enemy, pulling them and dragging their asses to my team, if a person didn't have bandana or purify they were dead. Loved his speed, Q spam and the amount of CC you could spam on his E, while getting move speed and attack speed... I barely play nowadays, but i'm sure I would like the old one more. For people that care about lore (I don't like to accompany, but I do like when things reference each other and make sense) it feels stupid that they purposefuly make themselves have a REALLY rough time just because they decided to change EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM, which fucked up a huge chunk of the entire story of their fictional world... Oh, but the fact that he can be many more positions other than jungle now is really cool, because you wouldn't EVER see him anywhere else... Which only got WORSE when they introduced the stupid crystal years ago
The kit is... fine, mostly, but it feels so fucking awkward so often. The Q times out weirdly quickly, the E carry stops weirdly quickly, but the absolute worst part is not being able to do anything while ulting. Even beyond the clunky forced stop while casting, I really don't like how having someone in ult locks you out of being able to auto or E. You can only reposition and W, which feels goofy, to say the least.
guaranteeing a stun right out of a suppression wouldn't be exactly fair, and you're locked out of Q because you now have the potential to lock up to three champions down in your ult. Skarner has been arguably turned into a teamfighting champ versus a duelist with a pick mechanic.
@Dracon350 chain ccing isn't anything new, including knockups (the only uncleansable cc). Morgana, Sion, Nautilus, Gragas - plenty of champs can dump 3+ seconds of cc with only the tools in their own kits, including some that can lock down multiple champs under the right conditions. It's bizarre that Skarner is an exception for some reason.
@@arsenicyogurt Malphite only has his ult, Sion's ult is a lot more committal, Nautilus' ult is single target and the rest of his kit is designed heavily around CC'ing one target at a time, and Gragas' ult into E is still skill-shot based. they all have specific conditions and design philosophies that shape their kit and why they get to chain their CC's. Skarner is the exception because his ult is a lot less committal, it's relatively easier to land, and it suppresses multiple people at once. this isn't displacement, it's not a knock up, not a stun, it's a suppression, which completely stops everything the enemy can do. which, on that matter, Skarner can still E someone right out of R. it's not guaranteed by any means, but ulting someone, dragging them in front of a wall and using E immediately after it ends is a decent enough way to chain your CC, especially if you W in between for the slow.
Hail of Blades Lethality Skarner is incredibly fun and I cannot reccomend it enough. Even after all the item nerfs, your damage after getting just Profane is hilarious.
I honestly think 2 things would make skarner "Stronger" but more importantly smoother to play and more fun to play would the be the following, one of which you brought up Nickyboi in the video, 1 the thing ive been saying since his rework (before the hotfix buff) is that his Q should be an Auto Attack Reset, this would allow for some inter-kit combos, making the 3 his passive and his Q to come out faster, if riot thinks its too powerful, lower the Max HP Damage from 5-11% Max HP Magic Damage to something like ~4-8% Max HP Magic Damage. 2 the one Nickyboi also said, have your Movement Speed before using your E Affect the speed Skarner moves while using his E, have it Start out instead of the Current 150 flat MS, increasing to 950 (1150 if he Grabs a person, which personally i think feels backwards, you should gain less speed when grabbing someone) and also 2.75 Secs is a weird amount of time, so i think it should also be changed to 3 Secs, so maybe have it Start out at 100/105/110/115/120 Flat MS + 10% Current MS when it was activated, increasing by 50/55/60/65/70 MS + 3% Movement Speed when Activated every 0.25 Secs, capping it out at 600 + 41% MS (with Skarner's Base MS of 335 this would end out at just shy of 740 MS at the 1st Rank with no Movement Speed Enchantments) and at Rank 5 it would be 840 + 41% MS (again with no Movement Speed Enhancements this would be just under 980 MS) so on Paper without building Movement Speed, it is a Nerf, but mid game it mkst definitely would be a buff with boots and 1 Single Movement Speed Item) and as a fun 3rd optional one, i think Skarner Ult should grab 3 people at rank 1, 4 at Rank 2, and 5 at Rank 3.
Skarner being a void borne is a cool concept i feel they should have gone with because it would make the voidborn a more diverse race or species and plus would like his name to have ( ' ) like every other voidborn like Skar'ner
This was such a good video, congratulations! :D I'll be the first to admit that I am hella biased towards the PRIMORDIAL SOVEREIGN, because I got into League Lore upon seeing his design. I don't play the game, I haven't followed the worldbuilding up to that point, so I have literally zero connection to the old Skarner. I can understand the feelings of Old Skarner enthusiasts, but talking strictly for myself... I absolutely effing love everything about this kaiju bastard.
The Kaiju Bastard is good but the main issue that myself and other Skarner Enthusiasts have is that it's a completely different character. It's a neat character, but we lost our boy in return. It REALLY feels like this new Skarner should've just been a different champion, because it's a REALLY good concept, but I don't think it's worth losing our tragic boy.
They just made another rework champion a miserable boomer. Yes this has happened before. Multiple times if you just count making characters miserable for zero reason

keep his new lore nearly intact, BUT change this: Skarner STILL is made out of what powers hextech, and make it that his fall to paranoia and violence, be that , piltover simply hunted his kind to extinction, while he was still the only one that saw the good in humanity, hes also the only one who survived the genocide of his kind, thus he fears his ixtal to become the same as piltover or the other empires, and hates the outside for what they personally did to his people, piltover still have hextech cause they have the bodies of the species of skarner to mine the crystals out of but still go looking into ixtal for other resources, and skarner has his protector turned oppressor role be a trauma related thing, instead of just becoming mad seeing what humanity is capable of.
I think that the lore of arcane could be played alongside what skarner already had, i mean its never disclosed HOW jayce or any character get the crystals, and whoever has a handle on that trade has to ever disclose that fact in-universe, unless the hex crystals in arcane canon have some other quality im not aware of that would make their originally a biological origin incompatible.
also, we could say that skarner is just so big cause he got to live longer than most his companions, like lobsters or crabs.
quick and dirty lore experiment, but genuinely unless arcane is gonna reveal some DARK secret about hex crystals i don't see why skarners original lore should be at all incompatible with arcane canon, and also giving him a twist of tragedy ontop of his usually caring nature, is like primo material for making him more likeable! in the lore department seriously feels as though riot dropped the ball.

I agree so much with this video, dropping his old lore for “outside world bad” and making him another angry deity of sorts kinda just boxes him in with Voli imo. His old lore had so much more emotion to it. I’m really surprised they didn’t do some sort of crystalline skin for him to commemorate old Skarner but here’s hoping they make it in the future at some point.

I miss the movement speed and build diversity we used to have.
You used to be able to go full movement speed, full AP, or bruiser. But now all his ratio skill with health so you just have to build tank.
And the E having a fixed movement speed you is just a slap in the face.
I also miss bruiser skarner where i trick someone into thr jungle and then kill them so fast they are left confused
you do not have to build health specific items. it also helps that the majority of damage items that syngerize well with skarner come with health. ap? protobelt liandries. bruiser? titanitc steraks etc etc. full movement speed was just a meme tbh his old scalings might as well have not existed. the "build diversity" was borderline a lie and carried by mains who just pilot skarner well anyway

Deleting his old passive from the game could theoretically require fine combing the map files of Summoner's Rift or Howling Abyss to revise any lines of code that interacted with the passive.

Other champs (ksante) do it; idk why they couldnt let the giant, earthbending scorpion cosplay one of his wormy cousins from the Tremors franchise, but it would have been so fun (not to mention ridiculously terrifying). 💔

I was one of the very few Skarner players of LAS, and when Riot showed his rework ...
I hated it.
He doesn't feel like Skarner anymore, she's not the infinite mana monster who spams Q and CCs all day, he's more lile playing a Sion without the infinite stacks of health
but after playing it, I really liked it, a lot!
but... I still like more pre-rework.
the enemy team never expected the damage from a Skarner with Conqueror and Trinity, or a fully tank Skarner with Iceborn guanlet.
but now? he builts only like a tank, if you want to use him perfectly you have to use always Deadman Grasp with Heartsteel and Sterakk.
I love Skarner rework but ... Prerework is unique.
I'm writing down my thoughts before the video has even premiered, and I'll probably edit my comment once I've watched it.
I used to main Skarner before his rework, and he was BY FAR my favourite champion both gameplay and character wise, but the rework has just killed him for me.
I'm not the biggest fan of his new character, as he's just a brooding edgelord that's not-... very compelling, and he also just looks-... kind of ugly. (Don't even get me started on how they RUINED Earthrune, which was BY FAR my favourite of his skins...)
The thing that killed him for me is that they turned him from a speedy little guy that could build VIRTUALLY ANYTHING (you could be an AP midlaner, a top lane bruiser, a tank, a support, a mosquito, etc, etc) and use ALMOST ANY RUNE POSSIBLE into a generic, slow moving tank! It was genuinely so fun to be able to adapt to any situation, purely because of how weird all of his scalings/gameplay were. Do you teamfight a lot? Go get a Redemption! Need some more bulk? Go get any tank item! Need just a tiny bit more distance? Protobelt it up! He also just had so many random AD, AP or health scalings on pretty much everything (or at least 2 of the 3), and now he's just a generic tank with basically nothing but health scalings. Sure, his current ultimate and W have SOME AP scalings, and his Q has some AD scalings, but they're just not enough to give him any build variety whatsoever... You're actively trolling if you build AP or AD items on current Skarner (outside of Sterak's and Liandries), while it was perfectly fine on the old one!
He's also just so clunky now, with his E slowing him down to 100 MS and slowly ramping up in speed, and his Q having a LITERAL SELF ROOT. He used to be a fast moving and incredibly sticky champion, and now he's just a slow moving generic tank. (Why does his E not work like Nune W anyway???)
I dunno, maybe I just don't like modern champion design. I just wish Riot still had some incredibly weird stuff like old Skarner. I hate how streamlined it all is now.
Edit: I can see most of your points, but saying that Skarner finally has role and build diversity is just flat out wrong. Most of that purely came from him being EXTREMELY overtuned. He already HAD all of that, it just wasn't noticeable whatsoever due to people NOT playing him. Hell, there's a reason quite a few Skarner one-tricks just flat out quit when he got reworked, because you couldn't be creative with him anymore! (Most notably, FACECHECKSKARNER)
Yeah i couldnt put it in words mysekf but hes just not fun anymore to me either like its neat they updated him but he feels so bland now his build variety is non existent now and the ways to play him are basically one or 2 different ways hes just so boring

At the time of making the vid, new Skarner could build many items (nerfed obviously). Old Skarner "could" build anything because the guys who played him, played just him and just makeshifted him into certain roles given the scraps Rito had left for them.

old skarner did have build diversity while new skarner has only ever built tank items; end of story. his build path is pretty much exactly the same as it was when the vgu dropped and guess what, the 1 patch when he was overbuffed doesn't count as him being able to build many items because that was literally due to both his scalings and base numbers being overtuned and getting hotfixed not even a full patch later.

I used to play him casually before the rework, but I can't care about him after. He needed an ability and visual rework, but I hated what they did with his lore and theme. One of the few things I wanted was for them to keep his crystals. They could change everything else, but why change that? The team said they made the change because crystals are more associated with healing. Which is stupid. Crystals are literally natural knives that are sharper than anything else in nature. Unlucky cavers sometimes die because they fall on razor-sharp gypsum and bleed out. Fire is associated with death and destruction, yet they didn't force Milio to be a water mage to heal.
I feel like making him similar to the retcon but keeping that still remaining sadness due to his near blind trust in humans to do the right thing, even if it means he’s the last guardian that remains, even if means his body will slowly be corrupted by humans, when his heart remains pure yet sad in a human-feeling way. An ancient being acting as a guardian, yet forever tainted slowly by human cruelty even if he’ll never stop believing in the possibility of human kindness.
I was a huge fan of old skarner and i was kinda sad about the reworked one, but after some times i really started to enjoy it, also seeing my scorpion boooy being like a loooot played in competitive league is making me happy
You are so right in the part where you say that there is not even a hint in his old design for his inner kindness. Look at bastion from overwatch, he is just a scary looking turret but the little bird following him around is enough to hint at his kindness. I thing the old skarner design should of had a little flower somewhere, just to show that he is ancient and kind.
I dislike hearing you say that he 'finally' had role and build diversity when he very much had both before, coming from a former Skarner onetrick. You had to experiment to find how to make them work but I played Skarner in every role, granted not often as ADC but I did do it, and between tank, bruiser, AP draintank, attack speed skirmisher, CC bot support, you name it he could absolutely do it. I think largely my biggest issue with the rework is just how clunky he feels to the original, so slow and heavy (which yes I understand is part of the theme) but it just doesn't feel the same at all to me. I especially get bothered by the ult because previously hit ult dragged people sort of like a vehicle recovery truck, with the tether having them loosely trail behind you, whereas now his body remains stiff, as do the impaled targets, which just feels so weird to me. For lore and design I do agree overall it feels like an improvement to fit with the modern League lore but the gameplay is the thing that hurts me the most

for the average player, Skarner was most certainly NOT a flex pick prior to his rework. nobody but one-tricks would think to take him anywhere but jungle. the more adventurous might've taken him top, but that was it.

@@fosterbennington6405 No New Aatrox is a literal bossfight. Giant, telegraphed, sweeping attacks (Q), moves that set up into said attacks (W and E), and even a second phase (Ult). It is a very well thought out character design that sticks to its theme and Riot absolutely cooked with it.
Calling it Riven 2 just cause he has 3 casts of 1 move is so corny, especially when those 3 casts do entirely different things and force them to play in entirely different ways.

Also yes, old Skarner was incredibly fun. Especially with a cloud dragon soul. I dragged a hapless Ezreal all the way from under the blue inner mid turret to Red Buff just a month before his rework and I don't think I've ever laughed as much in years.

Ixtal was beginning to look a bit *too* comfy so they threw in the freighter ship-sized, earth bending Scorpion that can hear you using the bathroom at 3 in the morning.
I definitely enjoyed playing the new Skarner as more of a support than playing him top, but that's mostly due to his engaging tools while being an excellent support to both peel and disengage with as well. However all the diverse scaling he had and continued to lose over the years in his old kit were so fun to play and make fun builds with.
Way before the spires were superglued to his kit, I loved building him AP in toplane due to how absolutely bonkers his AP scaling and burst was, it was such a fun feeling in the game of making my opponent go "Wtf is that damage" without resorting to dragging them under tower or to allies, it was just your ability to stack his old passive and having his ult do so much damage.
During the era of spires however, the most fun I could have was building him AD/AP hybrid with attack speed to allow his Q CD to be almost instant, immediately shredding someone if they got hit with E, putting them in the blender, though that was also short lived when they made his Q CD longer and do max HP damage.
I'm gonna miss my boy though, next to old Aatrox and especially old Mordekaiser, it's just another rework that alienated me from an old champ I used to love.

Hooray the Skarner vid! Really happy to see another one about him.
I will say that his VGU is a 50/50 case his lore could be better but i can see what riot were going for, gameplay brings the vibe of making a presence in fights and technically his old abilities are still there (like q and e now into one) Will forever miss his more speedy and faster reaction to his abilities and the more damage potential he had.
I will however say that his options are still limited to tank no matter what and that was a mistake from riot.
Edit: The fact they did not bring the "Skar skar skarner" line back when he is in bush is a crime!

Skarners gameplay design was NEVER bad. It was very very good! We was just out of tune in some areas and Riot absolutely butchered the job of finetuning.

I loved old skarner, got my Mastery 7 like 7 years ago. I remember predator + ghost + an active item I don't remember the name and zooming towards one single enemy, pulling them and dragging their asses to my team, if a person didn't have bandana or purify they were dead. Loved his speed, Q spam and the amount of CC you could spam on his E, while getting move speed and attack speed... I barely play nowadays, but i'm sure I would like the old one more. For people that care about lore (I don't like to accompany, but I do like when things reference each other and make sense) it feels stupid that they purposefuly make themselves have a REALLY rough time just because they decided to change EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM, which fucked up a huge chunk of the entire story of their fictional world...
Oh, but the fact that he can be many more positions other than jungle now is really cool, because you wouldn't EVER see him anywhere else... Which only got WORSE when they introduced the stupid crystal years ago
The kit is... fine, mostly, but it feels so fucking awkward so often. The Q times out weirdly quickly, the E carry stops weirdly quickly, but the absolute worst part is not being able to do anything while ulting. Even beyond the clunky forced stop while casting, I really don't like how having someone in ult locks you out of being able to auto or E. You can only reposition and W, which feels goofy, to say the least.
guaranteeing a stun right out of a suppression wouldn't be exactly fair, and you're locked out of Q because you now have the potential to lock up to three champions down in your ult. Skarner has been arguably turned into a teamfighting champ versus a duelist with a pick mechanic.
@Dracon350 chain ccing isn't anything new, including knockups (the only uncleansable cc). Morgana, Sion, Nautilus, Gragas - plenty of champs can dump 3+ seconds of cc with only the tools in their own kits, including some that can lock down multiple champs under the right conditions. It's bizarre that Skarner is an exception for some reason.

@@arsenicyogurt Malphite only has his ult, Sion's ult is a lot more committal, Nautilus' ult is single target and the rest of his kit is designed heavily around CC'ing one target at a time, and Gragas' ult into E is still skill-shot based. they all have specific conditions and design philosophies that shape their kit and why they get to chain their CC's. Skarner is the exception because his ult is a lot less committal, it's relatively easier to land, and it suppresses multiple people at once. this isn't displacement, it's not a knock up, not a stun, it's a suppression, which completely stops everything the enemy can do.
which, on that matter, Skarner can still E someone right out of R. it's not guaranteed by any means, but ulting someone, dragging them in front of a wall and using E immediately after it ends is a decent enough way to chain your CC, especially if you W in between for the slow.
Hail of Blades Lethality Skarner is incredibly fun and I cannot reccomend it enough. Even after all the item nerfs, your damage after getting just Profane is hilarious.

I honestly think 2 things would make skarner "Stronger" but more importantly smoother to play and more fun to play would the be the following, one of which you brought up Nickyboi in the video, 1 the thing ive been saying since his rework (before the hotfix buff) is that his Q should be an Auto Attack Reset, this would allow for some inter-kit combos, making the 3 his passive and his Q to come out faster, if riot thinks its too powerful, lower the Max HP Damage from 5-11% Max HP Magic Damage to something like ~4-8% Max HP Magic Damage. 2 the one Nickyboi also said, have your Movement Speed before using your E Affect the speed Skarner moves while using his E, have it Start out instead of the Current 150 flat MS, increasing to 950 (1150 if he Grabs a person, which personally i think feels backwards, you should gain less speed when grabbing someone) and also 2.75 Secs is a weird amount of time, so i think it should also be changed to 3 Secs, so maybe have it Start out at 100/105/110/115/120 Flat MS + 10% Current MS when it was activated, increasing by 50/55/60/65/70 MS + 3% Movement Speed when Activated every 0.25 Secs, capping it out at 600 + 41% MS (with Skarner's Base MS of 335 this would end out at just shy of 740 MS at the 1st Rank with no Movement Speed Enchantments) and at Rank 5 it would be 840 + 41% MS (again with no Movement Speed Enhancements this would be just under 980 MS) so on Paper without building Movement Speed, it is a Nerf, but mid game it mkst definitely would be a buff with boots and 1 Single Movement Speed Item) and as a fun 3rd optional one, i think Skarner Ult should grab 3 people at rank 1, 4 at Rank 2, and 5 at Rank 3.

Skarner being a void borne is a cool concept i feel they should have gone with because it would make the voidborn a more diverse race or species and plus would like his name to have ( ' ) like every other voidborn like Skar'ner

I'll be the first to admit that I am hella biased towards the PRIMORDIAL SOVEREIGN, because I got into League Lore upon seeing his design. I don't play the game, I haven't followed the worldbuilding up to that point, so I have literally zero connection to the old Skarner. I can understand the feelings of Old Skarner enthusiasts, but talking strictly for myself...

The Kaiju Bastard is good but the main issue that myself and other Skarner Enthusiasts have is that it's a completely different character. It's a neat character, but we lost our boy in return. It REALLY feels like this new Skarner should've just been a different champion, because it's a REALLY good concept, but I don't think it's worth losing our tragic boy.
They just made another rework champion a miserable boomer. Yes this has happened before. Multiple times if you just count making characters miserable for zero reason

Skarner was my favorite champion to play in urf nothing was better than turning off your brain and spamming e and stunning people and when they ran away just press r and drag them back and continue stunning them
