  • Welcome back to Talking Dragon Age, the show where I talk about Dragon Age. Finally, today... we investigate Dirthamen: the Elven god of secrets. We go over what we know he has been involved with, and what that may say about his character. A lot of this is speculation, but it was so much fun.

I just had a thought. From the Trespassers DLC, Solas talks about how everyone started as generals from a war. What if the Evanrius were just that, aspects of the war versus the Forgotten ones. If Dirthaman is the God of Secrets, wouldn't he have been an excellent spymaster (Like Leliana who is normally a 11, turned up to 21). June and Sylasie were crafters (a blacksmith and a healer), Andrul lead the Scouts, Ghilan'nain trained the calvary, Falon'din sounds like a priest performing burial rights, leading to Mythal the protector who defended their territory as, Elgar'nan went forth to conquer the Forgotten ones, or this could have been the war with the Titans. In war, people that don't fight decide to be conscious observers to said war. That is why Solas could walk between both sides without fear. Though as the war drove people mad with conquest, Solas saw that the path the others were taking was going to destroy everything (the taint as a weapon perhaps). That is why he sealed the others away.
    Well it's just my thinking.

It would be very interesting if Dirthamen and Falon'Din were coexisting at the same body, like a person with dual personalities. When the one took control of the body, the other would be the "shadow" of the former, thus and the references in the codexes, still existing somewhere in the mind/psyche of that person.

The shadow and reflection part makes me think of them as simply visages of each other, potentially hinting at a union of existence between them i.e. justice and vengeance being the same spirit but each side having different morals and motives.
Awesome job as usual dude, your ideas always make so much sense, even (perhaps especially) the ideas outside the box :D

Maybe Falon'Din or Dirthamen are similiar to the spirit that formed after Divine Justinia died. Could be that not just death would cause such a traumatic event that a spirit could form from the resulting emotions, so that one of them really is a reflection of the other, a copy up to that point. If that was the case I would guess that Dirthamen is actually the spirit that formed from Falon'Din, and the very first secrets he kept are Falon'Din's.
As for the lizard people, for awhile now I've assumed they're another race created by the elves or maybe even the Titans. DA writers seem to pull a lot from mythology of all different flavors, and seems like they might have taken a few things from the five ages of man according to Greek mythology. Look up the the Golden Age, sounds a lot like the ancient elves to me. www.greek-gods.org/mythology/five-ages-of-man.php
But... take a look at these... i.imgur.com/h532Hpb.jpg
Looks awfully similar to me. Came across a reddit post from someone saying that they thought the lizard people might be one huge easter egg scattered all through the game. We do see a lot of Krogan heads mounted on walls in Inquisition, and don't forget that ogre during Kasumi's quest. And apparently Varric sent an email in one of the Mass Effect games, I never came across that.

Dirthamen & Folan' Din are separate yet one, Like some sort of unbreakable spiritual connection or binding. (I believe it is a waking and sleeping state of connection.) Because of the Infighting between the Eleven Gods (due to trickery and lots of misunderstandings) Folan' Din had to "rebel." and separate himself from Dirthamen. Keep in mind that names change based on ones current "purpose" (Refer to The well of sorrows mission) Once Folan Din seperated himself from Dirthamen, His purpose changed, hence, so did his name. His name was changed to "dread wolf" the opposite of a Shepard (Folan Din is often depicted holding a Shepard staff and dark hooded cloak. Oddly enough so does the dread wolf in many depictions. Refer to the new trailer.) "A name meant to insult, but one I took as a badge of pride" -Solas. To call someone once seen as a Shepard a DREAD WOLF is a huge insult. Keep in mind how much Solas knows about the fade. Don't forget, he helped his spirit friend "pass over." This is something Folan Din would be expected to do since he is the "Shepard of the Dead" leading the spirits to the fade. In short, We know already that Solas is the Dread wolf.. But who is the Dread wolf? The Dread wolf is Folan' Din after he rebelled from his other half, Dirthamen. This could explain why there is confusion of the actual TOTAL of Eleven Gods and the TOTAL is off by ONE. "I have had many names, Solas came first, Dread Wolf came much later." -Solas. Remember, Solas never lies, he simply omits information... he told us who he was first, and then who he was later... but what about the in-between?? Two = few, Many = more than two. I'd say he was also known as Folan Din. I have a LOT more information/theories I'd be happy to share with you... including how the Elven Gods betrayed the "forgotton ones" via Mythal (The TRUE betrayer) stephaniepatrick.episode@gmail.com

You can write here about everything or just about the betrayer Mythal.
I think that Solas is the second self of Dirthamen, who has split off and regained his own existence. Because in the temple of the Dread Wolf there are two mosaics of Dirthamen. But maybe you are right.

The aromantic community has a term for platonic bonds that are non-familial and non-romantic. It's called a QPR (Queerplatonic Relationship). The specific term was coined by the aromantic community to talk about relationships and partnerships where romance is not a part of that relationship, yet the levels of commitment, intimacy, and intensity involved are beyond the bounds of friendship. I always think about this when I read lore about Dirthamen and Falon'din.

You consider Dirthamen to be a master manipulator and you wonder how he could possibly become the head of the pantheon in Tevinter Imperium.
    Silence 1:6-7
Secrets beyond measure were the keys
The Choir of Silence would need, and they had few.
And so the First Acolyte spoke to the High Priest
And said: "We are the masters of secrets,
But our god demands more. Let us to the Builders
Whisper, and they who construct monuments to the glory
of the gods shall build us a road to the Golden City,
Where your promise shall be fulfilled."
They needed builders more than the help of the goddess of Mystery. They came to her penultimate. Why if they needed secrets above all else? Because the priests of Dumat were masters of secrets.
