    I have really enjoyed your instructional videos. Its been 20 years since I last tried to build wheels. Your videos are so well done and informative, they have given me the confidence to try again. I will be building the wheels for my new 26 in BMX bike. Thanks and keep the videos coming!

    I bought a prebuilt wheel in 1999 D521 on deore. Got a shop to upgrade to Deore disc. In 2005 I rebuilt it with fresh spokes and nipples onto a pro2. My first wheel and it's still getting heavy use now! I also did the same with the front to match. I'm loathed to rebuild it but I'm looking at replacing with a 29er. I think they both need to be cleaned and hung as art!

    In first I very appreciate every new movie of yours. It's a massive amount of tech knowlage for me. I have a small request about some next episode. It would be very useful if you could make a movie about proper torque values for different screws in a bike. I use a torque wrench, but always has a problem with it. Thanks! :)

    Built my first and only set of wheels in the early 90s. Still true and riding them to this day. Not as often of course because I have newer bikes that I love, but I feel like I accomplished something cool and the wheels are still rolling true

      people now do it with a hub motor in the wheel, bit more tricky since its heavy to centre up

    Wheel building can be difficult, but puzzling to process. Once done, you can spin the wheel faster and watch the spiral image of what goes on during revolution turns. The resistance may be slow or fast, depending on your interlacing counts.

    PS should you put min strength thread lock on nipple/spokes or a lube? I see both

    • @parktool
      @parktool  3 года назад +2

      The tension of the spokes should keep them in place. If a lower spoke count wheel, a larger rider or for a few other reasons a person may want to use a product like spoke freeze or wicking thread locker to lock the nipples in place. For the most part Lube is the best way to build a good wheel.

      lineseed oil also works as a threadlock & has the advantage of taking 2 days to dry so you can fine tune the true after a ride or two before it sets up.

    I question which pulling spokes are most critical to be on the inside of flange on disk brake rear hubs. I assume the brake rotor is going to apply more force on 99% of wheels. I was taught or have the drive side pulling spokes on the inside pre disk. I now believe this is because of the damage to the J bends when a chain overships the largest cogs. whatever the reason I now put the rotors pulling spokes on the inside.

    That's a good video. My TS-2 usually gets daily use; but I have one gripe with it: The feeler arm height adjustment screw and knob take forever to wind in and out, and I need to wind the arm up quite often to get it out of the way on my small workbench. Why don't you redesign it so that you can put a speed nut (like engineers' dividers and calipers have in their adjusting screw) in the part of the frame that holds the captive nut, so you can let the arm go up easily and quickly when it doesn't need to be out for truing duties? Otherwise, it's very good. Thanks.

    What colored spokes did you use, and are they quality for a serious build or more of a gimmick? Thanks!

    • @parktool
      @parktool  3 года назад +3

      These are from Soma Fab and seem to be of decent quality. We have not put miles on them(And will not) but the paint seems robust and the spokes laced up well. They need to be cut and rolled to the length you need.

      Depends! At a certain point a 4x can cause a stress riser. And often not possible, say with an 18 hole wheel.
