Honestly, I could listen to this all day and still not come close to being bored. Such an achingly beautiful melody. Two minutes and we're done. More please!
Certainly a good one! I can't tell you how many times I listened to this when I was 15, lying on the floor with a speaker near each ear, flowing with the music. It was magic.

What sprung forth from John's mind was just amazing. A throwaway song? Oh my! He was taken way too soon from us and by the way Michael, a dream of mine to do what you do and the same equipment!! Thanks for sharing this with us. Doug from Green Bay, Wi.
I think perhaps he thought the lyrics weren't very good. John seems to like the songs he wrote where the lyrics were "real" (to use his word) Songs like "Help" "In My Life" "Strawberry Fields"
Love that Fender Strats that was given to John and George, a special limited edition from ´62 I think, the color and fretboard looks great, I know George painted his, but I didn´t see John with that guitar out of that short period, then he used his Epi Casino (then stripped). It´s weird they almost always used the bridge pickup , I think they needed to cut into the mix after overdubs and reductions. Maybe a Telecaster would have been a better option for them, but imagine a Strat more than 50 years ago, there must have been like something out of this world. Do you know if they used a wounded G string or a plain one ? Great work as always. A surprise, the use of Bigsby as an almost constant vibrato efect. They were special no doubt
Que melodía tan hermosa, evica recuerdos increíbles... Una verdadera canción Beatle .. así el mismo Lennon dijera que no le gustaba ... Pero fue hecha con el sentimiento del momento... Betlero por siempre!!! Excelente cover amigo
It´s Only Love for a song that can make someone to reproduce a recording with this care for the details. Congratulations and thanxs for your care with a little gem like this dylanesque song so undestimated
miss hearing from hearing you Michael. Come May 24th, 6 years cancer free and still grateful and listening to you has helped tremendously! Thanks again, Doug way out here waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make up his mind. Take care Beatle Man.
Yes love that music from 57 to 66 from Beatles Quarrymen.67 to 70 they were different and very exciting songs. I wish they would have not stopped after Abbey Road like 1 album every two years for a few years more. As Paul said they were still doing great music. In the off years do solo work.
Unfreaking believable. That is dead nuts on sept for not using a Framus Hootenanny. But you mixed it so you really can't tell. I'm one of the few fortunate ones to have a Hootenanny like Perry. And also have a Campus King that sounds exactly like a Hootenanny. Bravo Michael. Any chance you will be doing the Beatles Second album? I'd like to hear you do Thank You Girl. That has one of the best outros from the early years. Ringo snare to tom fill and Georges cha cha cha guitar sound at the end when John sings Oh Oh Oh. It blows me away.
Michael, this is so, so special .. you have given wings to the exquisite inner beauty of this song .. and it is such a beautiful song, every chord, every aspect, every touch .. I can't believe how gifted The Beatles were .. I am so glad I found this. Thank you.
The little things they did! I loved in '65 and still do today the extra texture from the two Gretch parts. One playing notes, the other playing ths same note over and over. Michael was brilliant to pick up on that. One of the little things the Beatles did that other groups never thought to do.
@@gdholmfirth A great comment. The more you look into Beatle compositions the more you are in wonder .. absolute wonder. They were on another level entirely. I recall George Martin, who I met incidently, saying once that of all the artists he has worked with no one came even close to The Beatles creatively.
@@tjcint One of their many secrets was taking the time and effort to add the little things to an almost-complete song. It made their songs so full. Other groups did not know to add the little things and so their songs were easier to copy and less complex.
@@gdholmfirth Yes, there are so many exquisite touches in their work. Sometimes listening to covers I discover touches I had not been aware of because the cover artist has accentuated them. This is always a joy. The Beatles adorned their work so beautifully.
After a few more listens to this great song from "Rubber Soul", I wanted to add just how much I admire your faithful reproduction of all the guitar work The Beatles put into it. This song was one of the ones that set the entire mood of the US version of the album. Fantastic job getting all the parts perfect. I enjoy listening to and watching your version very much. Nice catch on the 2nd Gretsch, by the way. The song is full of guitars and I have spent many hours over the years listening to first one track and then the other on the American version stereo album. Your work was perfect.
@@Viuomar Actually "I've Just Seen a Face" is song 1 on side 1. It IS the perfect intro to set the mood for what the American version of the album would be. Side 2 opened with "It's Only Love", a great opening to the flip side.
If I were to make my own mix of this, the only thing I would adjust would be slightly more tambourine. If you grew up listening to the American version of "Rubber Soul", it and songs of that Beatle period such as "We Can Work It Out", are characterized by an abundance of tambourine. Some of us even referred to it as "The tambourine era" back when it was happening. "We Can Work It Out" should definitely have been on the album.
Mike, you did it very well!!!! This is the only one performance of this song (I ever seen) that properly breaks down the right way to get the original sound. I've tried different effects and guitars (6 and 12), with just good approaches, but you got the exact sound. This is a very nice song, even John's comments are on the contrary. Very good job thanks for sharing this video.
Wow! I can't imagine all the time it took you to shoot all the parts and then sync everything all together. What a awesome effort! Thank you so much for posting. I just love JPG&R! Peace, Sal.
Yet another fantastic cover - so much to unpack in one song! First time I've seen the whammy bar being used on a Beatles track - always wondered how that sound was achieved. Love the scenic hofner part too! Looking forward to all your future work
Lemme quote what he said in an interview in 1969: “I was always ashamed of that because of the abominable lyrics.” I think it was simply cause he hated the lyrics. The only reason he kept it was because George wanted to experiment with better lead work on guitar.
When i was a youngster what I loved about the American release of RUBBER SOUL was how acoustic many of the songs were - it was like a folk-rock album and the themes of the songs was such a huge departure and quantum leap forward from the previous years songs - from I Want to Hold Your Hand -- to Norwegian Wood -- incredible! Great job you have done here - It's Only Love is a very under rated Beatles song/recording - it really has a great atmosphere and you captured it
Being from the US the American version was all I knew growing up. When I heard the UK version the American version was still my favorite, for the reasons you gave. As much as Capitol has been roasted about tinkering, they did a get a few albums right. This was one.
Just like I've Just Seen a Face, a throwaway track buried in the middle of side 2 of the Help LP that was elevated to a place of prominence opening up a side of the US Rubber Soul. It took a long time to get used to hearing You Like Me Too Much after that last chord at 1:50 finishes ringing.
Michael! I was noodling on the couch the other night, and discovered the chord progression in the verse is *really* similar to In My Life. Don't know if you've already made note of this particular but of trivia but it's fun to see John hit a useful progression, and reused it!
One of my favorite tracks to put on headphones and just listen to. Over and over. You nailed it. I was wondering how many guitars you would use and overdub. Since I grew up with this being on Rubber Soul, it has always seemed to me to fit that album more than "Help". "Rubber Soul" was the home to tambourine songs, such as this one. John's love songs are beautiful. Been listening to this since 66 and now 2023, never gets old.

That’s why they’re THE BEST EVER.
The Beatles are masters of all 3 aspects of music ..melody, rythm and harmony
Exactly.
and vocal
And the ever best vocals
After 57 years, that’s still a nice hat.
The most beautiful musical throwaway in world history.
Something like that ...
Lennon scorned this song. I think it's great. Well done.

Just beautiful...really love singing along with this...
I get high when I see you go by, my oh my
When you sigh my, my inside just flies, butterflies
Why am I so shy when I'm beside you?
It's only love and that is all
Why should I feel the way I do?
It's only love and that is all
But it's so hard loving you
Is it right that you and I should fight, every night?
Just the sight of you makes nighttime bright, very bright
Haven't I the right to make it up, girl?
It's only love and that is all
Why should I feel the way I do?
It's only love and that is all
But it's so hard loving you
Yes, it's so hard loving you
Loving you
This melody is simply incredible, so well done. It steals your senses and transports you to a world of dreams.

@@JoaoGabriel-lk9cv funny how the lyrics sound pretty good to us in 2023.
I agree. I think John hated the lyrics but he never appreciated his own gift for melody. Taken on that basis alone, it's a brilliant song.
It's so perfect that it makes me cry
How did a group of guys just barely 23 years old write such music? Outstanding.
