    JBA Ceramic Coated headers are very good! I installed a set on my 2003 Ford 4wd Explorer way back in 2006. I used copper silicone sealer on the header gasket, ball flange, and the bolts. The under hood temperatures are much cooler. And when fully warmed up. Most people think the engine is still cold. Fuel economy with E-85 improved from a 30% loss over gasoline, to 5-10%. The other mods are an Accel super Coil, spiral wound spark plug wires, K&N Air Filter, Flowmaster 70 Series muffler, and run Mobil 1 oil. Passes California smog every year required. The Explorer now has 228k miles, and is my secondary use vehicle. A 2016 Ram 1500 Quadcab 4wd is my current primary driven vehicle.
    If your vehicle will take a Ceramic Coated Header Set. Install it for the best performance.

    Thank you for a great honest video! Presume your Predator has the new Crom file? Mine has the older crom file and had them turned off for years with MDS disabled. Best mod by far that I’ve done on my 06 Chrysler 300c was change out the diff from 2.82 to 3.06 from SRT8 and upgraded the axles from a 2010 Challenger R/T but had to change the hubs and changed the rear diff cover with one from a Mercedes SLK55 AMG so I could install a AMG diff cooler. Oh and wired up paddle shifters from a S63 AMG. May I suggest you to change your motor mounts to Challenger 6spd mounts? I went through 3 sets of standard mounts within a year and haven’t had to replace them since changing them to 6spd mounts and has been approx 4-5 years since. My 5.7 kills 6.1 SRT8’s off the line and puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it.

    • @n-power-automotive
      @n-power-automotive  4 года назад

      Thank you. Yes I’ve updated my Predator but I got a custom email tune to get the rear O2 sensors turned off. And since have had the MDS turned off as well. Upgrading the rear was one of the best mods I did too. It was a pain and I’m still working through a very slight vibration issue, but the increase in performance off the line is awesome. I went from an open 2.65 to 3.23 with limited slip. Huge difference. I haven’t had issues with my motor mounts thankfully but I know the Challenger 6spd mounts are a popular choice. And I’m jealous of your paddle shifters. That’s one mod I’ve always wanted but haven’t got around to doing. Were they hard to install?

      I don’t remember the exact codes but I want to say something like 4020 and 4030? They were always the O2 sensors. I had a custom email tune done by Hemifever and he basically turns off the rear sensors or tricks the computer into thinking they’re reading fine so that the check engine light doesn’t come on. To this day I’ve never had an issue with it coming back on. Hope that helps!

      Arden Nielsen that’s weird because my shorty headers didn’t increase the sound level much at all. Did you have an exhaust leak maybe?

    • @ardennielsen3761
      @ardennielsen3761 6 лет назад

      ya the 1992 GMC truck had a massive leak, it went out the ports into the headers down the pipe to a Y went about 3 feet and into an old empty glass pack from the 90's, for a 5.0GM it could spit 2 foot wight fire out the tail pipe. could hear it from 3 miles away, had lots of toque but the two barrel TBI was a disappointment past 2300 rpm. I have a 1994 4.6 Thunder Bird now, i know if i put the same exhaust on it... it wont be as loud as the truck because the computerized spark timing and the catalytic converter make sure the flue is completely burnt, so no more fuel burning in the exhaust from the cheep GM,Chevy ICM. The Thunder Bird is the 3rd ford i have had, the only problem i have with Ford cars is the cheep overpriced thin walled tires... i wonder if triple walled reinforced truck tires are made in a size that would fit on the car?

  • @t.t.6398
    @t.t.6398 7 лет назад +2

    I'm curious as to why you didn't use the SRT manifolds with the JBA midpipes? JBA even says their headers don't make anymore power then the SRT manifolds do.

    • @n-power-automotive
      @n-power-automotive  7 лет назад

      The SRT manifolds are a great option, but they do not bolt onto 5.7 mid pipes, whether stock or aftermarket. They only bolt onto SRT stock or aftermarket mid pipes. That's why I went with JBA shorties because I had 5.7 JBA high flow mid pipes.

    • @t.t.6398
      @t.t.6398 7 лет назад

      Oh ok you got the high flow 5.7 mids first, makes better sense now. I was just asking cause I picked up a set of SRT manifolds and midpipes for $270. The manifolds are brand new and the mids are used but only have 2000 miles on them. Had you found a set of SRT midpipes you could have had your high flow cats welded in place of the factory cats.

    • @n-power-automotive
      @n-power-automotive  7 лет назад

      Terry Tiell I would have had to have the high flow cats welded in as well as a reducer to reduce the SRT mid pipes down to the 5.7 diameter to fit into my catback exhaust. At the point I'd be spending a lot of money on welding so it wouldn't be worth the extra cost and effort in my opinion.

    • @t.t.6398
      @t.t.6398 7 лет назад

      No, what I meant was to take your high flow cats and have them used in the SRT mids that way you wouldn't have wasted them. Please don't think I'm giving you any crap, I swear I'm not intending it to come off that way. I've got a friend who owns a custom exhaust shop and I've been building cars for over 30 years, maybe I think outside the box a little too much some times.
      Again I apologize if I came off wrong, wasn't my intention.
      Your car sounds great BTW! I can't wait to install my SRT manifolds and midpipes and for my Solo cat back system to arrive! So tired of my 16 R/T being so damn quiet.

    • @n-power-automotive
      @n-power-automotive  7 лет назад +1

      Ha ha I definitely did not take you as you giving me any crap, you're just asking questions. I think we're on the same page as far as what you were saying. If I went with SRT manifolds and mids, you're saying I could have had the high flow cats from my JBA mid pipes welded into the SRT mids, which is what I was saying in my last reply, but in addition to that I'd have to have reducers welded onto the SRT mids to mate up with my catback exhaust. The 5.7 uses 2.5 tubing in the catback and the SRT uses 2.75, so the only way to get SRT mids to fit on a 5.7 besides buying a catback for an SRT is to have a reducer welded on each mid pipe. Believe me I've researched every possible header option for my car before making my decision on the JBAs. I'm not even sure the cats would fit either due to the SRT mids being larger diameter piping. In the end it was easier just to get the JBA shorties.
      That combo of parts waiting to be installed on your 16 R/T is going to make it sound and perform so much better! Remember to get a custom tune though to really reap the benefits.
      I have a new mod in the works that should be delivered today that should make a huge difference in my cars performance. Stay tuned for a video on that soon!

  • @threehemis5566
    @threehemis5566 5 лет назад +1

    Great informative video? So if you are on a tight budget and had limited funds and wanted to do a few mods at once and then leave it would you just skip the shorty headers and leave the stock? I'm getting from the video that you dodnt really notice a difference till the tune? Im thinking about going intake, high flow cats and Diablo with a custom tune. The headers just seem like too much of a headache for what it gives. LT headers I just can't justify that expense. Did the tune solve the check engine problems?

    • @n-power-automotive
      @n-power-automotive  5 лет назад +1

      Craig Hall yes the tune gets rid of the CEL. The headers don’t do much until it’s tuned, then the car comes alive. But if you’re not up for the install, the high flow mids are a great option too.

  • @luivillslugger
    @luivillslugger 7 лет назад

    Did the engine light came on when you 1st put them on

    • @n-power-automotive
      @n-power-automotive  7 лет назад

      The CEL came on about 5 miles after the install as expected. The CEL also will come on with high flow mid-pipes. I have both. The CEL came on more often with the headers because they flow so much better than the stock logs the sensors will pick up on that and think there's a problem. With a custom tune you never have to worry about the CEL any longer.

    But a point is being missed here and that is that long tube headers flow better and you end up making more power, but to each his own. Are the SRT headers much of a better improvement over RT stock manifolds? I would assume so...

    • @n-power-automotive
      @n-power-automotive  7 лет назад +4

      And as I stated in my video, yes, long tubes are going to flow better and make more horse power, but not everyone has well over $1000 to spend on a set of long tube and high flow mid-pipes, so this is an option for those who want to spend a little at a time and maybe not make quite as much power but still a big improvement over stock. SRT exhaust manifolds are essentially the same thing as the JBA shorties, they just have a clam shell style heat shield over them.

      Whoa Weezy yes I used the 6.1 gaskets. That’s what you want.

  • @towboater781
    @towboater781 7 лет назад

    And as you show the headers where the actual header touches the head you can see the reason why most should not buy these headers. The bumps, dips you see will cause the headers to leak and they should be surfaced by a shop to remove these imperfections and then you should install them and would be good to go.

    • @n-power-automotive
      @n-power-automotive  7 лет назад +2

      Those round "bumps" are the same level as the ones around the ports. The headers laid absolutely perfect on a level surface and had no wobble, so they were straight. The key to these not leaking is using the OEM exhaust manifold gaskets, specifically the 6.1/6.4 versions since they have the D-shaped ports to match. I've had these on for over 8 months now with zero issues, so surfacing them by a machine shop is a bit over board. Use the correct gaskets and hardware and you'll be fine.
