It’s funny cause music critics went really hard on her in 2014 because this album was considered to be really “depressing” after what she had been putting out there with her music but it’s really what she was experiencing and her way to deal with and it just ended up being a master piece 💕
Art is always introspective. I don’t know what critics think. That all art is to entertain the masses ?
Wasn't Wounded Rhymes depressing also though? I like both albums, don't get me wrong, but mood wise this wasn't some major departure for her.
You are right, and that's such a superficial critique.. Why can't she just be herself? She strikes me as an incredibly authentic artist. One that actually conveys strong emotions to me through her songs.
I haven't stopped listening to this album since its release. It's one of those albums that just becomes a part of you.

I feel that way about Lana del Rey's Ultraviolence, and I can see why people would feel that way about this album. I really love this song.

The first time I heard this song I thought - that voice was amazing! One of those songs that I immediately liked and had to listen to again. On the second listen I didn't realise that she sang for such a short amount of time! On repeated listenings, I love the instrumental part after she sings. I still can't figure out if I'm listening to string instruments or bagpipes or some kind of hybrid.
