@krest2012 example..... about 2 weeks after making that comment my wife ran the camaro into a pole and totalled it. She was trying to get plate numbers on a guy who slightly backed into her in traffic and took off 🥲. I'm a year from having it paid off and insurance won't cover it.
Thanks for the video. It would've taken alot longer without the tips. I used a Milwaukee Sawzall with a modified blade for those 2 bolts. Worked out great! 👍
Great video. I got to do the same thing to get the expansion valve out. We think it’s clogged so it needs replacement. Not looking forward to tearing apart my car again. But I need the AC to run the Killer chiller.
There should be some kind of recall or something about this issue. I can't find a shop in town that will do this repair. So I have to take mine to the dealership and they are charging me 4.5k to do it. Would you be able to put some duct tape or something around that hinge to kind of reinforce it any?
Hello I appreciate this video but when you finished doing this work did a code come up which is U0125. Where you able to fix it and how? Thank you for your help and the video again
I may be mistaken but that motor over tightens the bland door breaking that plastic hinge. I live in FL so I just let mine break and kept the heater closed. I also disconnected the heater core lines. My A/C is ice cold with no heat leaking through.
Could you replace the heater core without removing the hvac box from the firewall. I need to change the heater core but don't want to unhook the evap core lines?
I have the very same Spring Edition Camaro SS/RS and this made me so sick because I smelled Coolant with the heater going once but I’m not any lower or leaking anywhere. Is it possible to just smell it once and not have a problem?
So I'm having trouble getting the bar out. Think I have all the bolts out and it's moves around but seems like something else is holding it. Anything I should check?
It's kinda hard to remember exactly where all the bolts are on the metal frame. There should be the two under the windshield that need to be cut and then there are 3 on each side near the doors I believe. There are also two bolts bottom center on the trans tunnel. The only other spot is near the steering column where there may be one or two more bolts
I need this done on my 2015 Camaro, shop ran a diagnostic test and said one of my blend doors is broken, the one that sits in the middle of dashboard and they told me to replace the evaporator case. They quoted me 3,300 By any chance do you live in Tampa, Florida lol?
Came here just to see how you addressed the blots that hit the windshield. Having done this job myself I was curious how you addressed those. We did something similar.
Those bolts should have been just a little shorter from the factory and it wouldn't even be an issue. I'm really not sure why they chose bolts that long for that location
Hi Chris, Great video. Its b been very helpful for me. I'm in the middle of putting the dash back in my Camaro after replacing the evaporator. On the drivers side I am having a problem installing what appears to be an interface box that clips underneath the dash next to the steering column along with the floor heater duct. The interface snaps in place but then I can't get the heater floor duct in place. If I put in the floor heater duct in first, then I can't get the interface to fit. What am I doing wrong? Ive already installed the tie bar. do I need to pull the tie bar out partially to be able to get both of those parts back in? Please help.
@@r.w1226 Sorry for the late reply. I was in the hospital for a month. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly how I got that duct back in. I know I didn't take the tie bar back out. I might of dropped down the steering column but I honestly can't remember. I wish I was more help I hope you figure it out like I did. Best of luck to you
@@josecazares2191 I've never tried that swap so I can't say for sure but I believe if you swap the metal frame and the dash itself then it should fit no problem
I did this to replace the evaporator and now the climate control or blower motor doesn’t turn on any idea what I could’ve forgotten to connect or anything?
That's kinda hard to say since it could be quite a few things that you might have missed when reassembling the dash. I would first check the blower motor plug since it's accessible under the passenger side dash. Then if that doesn't do it make sure you connected every connector behind the radio and climate control unit.
All that to replace a blend door? That’s ridiculous. Mine broke 1000 miles past my warranty. So go Save time and money I found some videos here on RUclips showing how to cut out the side of the air box. Swapped mine in less than a hour and will still have access for when it goes out again 🤘🏼
I used a sawzall. The way I was able to do it is by trimming down a regular sawzall blade with a grinder. It's a little hard to describe here but you have to cut it lengthwise to make it thinner towards the tip so it fits in the space around the bolts. Basically cut off half the height of the sawzall blade for the first 3-4 inches. You may be able to buy some very narrow blades that will fit in the space but we just modified the blades we had lying around
@@ChrisVaughnTech I used a JobMax oscillating tool with a metal carbide blade. I had to cut down the blade to make it narrower also. I wasn't sure it was going to do the job but it did. Thanks for the video. I wish I could see the regular speed version of the video.
The universe and powers that be were kind enough to poke a hole in my evap core. Life is gonna get me where it can, when it can.
Why do you see thing the way you see it

Awesome! Glad it helped!
Good video, about to start on a 12 myself, same issue. I liked that little trick of leaving the steering column in the car, gonna do that my self 🤟
Glad it helped! Good Luck!
Watching this after getting a $2k quote from the mechanic, knowing I absolutely will NOT be doing any of the work myself.
Great explanation though. 😅

I replaced my door without taking apart the dash. It took about 4hrs, but now I have a access panel to get to it 😂😂😂
Hi if this repair was completed and I smell exhaust fumes when I turn on the heat ? What could be wrong ?
Thank YOU !!!!! I need to do this on 2018 SS
Could you replace the heater core without removing the hvac box from the firewall. I need to change the heater core but don't want to unhook the evap core lines?
I assume the position of the blend door is critical on first start up or isn’t the actuator going to snap the hing off again?

How long did this fix take? and could you actually replace the heater core once you get down to where the blend door is?
This was about 2 full days worth of work. You can easily swap the heater core once the HVAC box is out of the car and open.
Do you have to evacuate the whole a/c system to remove the lines and evaporator?

Hope you can respond, have a 2015 Camaro is there a way to flush the radiator tubes? Not a car person so don’t know how
You can fill the system with distilled water and run it a couple times up to temperature and then drain the water and refill with fresh coolant
Any chance you know the part numbers on the door and case?
Where is the drain tube located
What does this job pay?
What is a reasonable estimate quote for someone to replace the dash?
It's a very labor intensive job so quotes tend to be on the high side. I've heard of quotes anywhere from $1500 to $2000 for this job
