Then why do all Koreans that I've met wear foundation that's like 100 shades lighter than their original skin tone and doesn't match their faces? Like they're trying so hard to be pale; I got complimented from them all the time due to my pale skin lol.
Arceus. sLIMEs In Argentina south america all people want to have olive skin in summer. I'm pale and in my country I can't find a foundation that matches my skin, all are darker.
***** do you live in korea? because I do, and if you do as well, where? because korean makeup is just all about the baby face and the v line and stuff..
It's very outdated. No one in Korea goes out like that anymore. Other ones were ok, but the 2010 is not accurate. currently, Korean women go for a more youthful and dewy look.
+Anika iPi I THINK the person in charge of this based it off from Lee Hyori before 2010- which ofc isn't really the standard beauty of Korea in 2010s/current.
떡볶이 Oh don't get me wrong. I do have my share of female Korean friends (none of which had plastic surgery to my knowledge) who I find to be among the most attractive people I know. It's just that where I'm from, people tend to tease each other and laugh at ourselves based on our own stereotypes even though we know that they're not 100% true. So to many others here, I really didn't intend to mean this to be offensive in any way, and I apologize if that's the impression I gave. Maybe it's a cultural thing where sensitivity concerns and humor may differ depending on where we're from.

I'm not Korean but I met lots of Korean girls. 2010's version was actually not that precise. They prefer pale white skin and pinky dewy lips and light brown hair, which is all look like a doll
+Chen Zhu True, and don't forget the eyebrows too. They prefer the light straight eyebrows more instead of arched ones. and what's up with the hoop earrings?
this was a nice video esp. to see N. Korea. We tend to forget that they are regular people with their own beauty standard(tho more regulated) S.Korean beauty trend now tho is way less makeup. They love pale, dewy skin, they dont wear big earrings, they definitely don't wear that much eyeliner, they don't highlight cheekbones, gradient lip or nude lip is in and we all know they love straight brows.
+Andrea Martinez a ton of makeup yes but its still not as much as is used here in US. A simple "no makeup" look East or West can use about 10 makeup products or more. but here for the look thats in they add like 10 more products. and the funniest part is its black, white, latina they all go for that similar super made up look
South Korea beauty standards in this video for me look much more like American beauty standards.. I found it very confusing, the Korean culture I know wouldn't go for the look depicted here..
That is exactly what I asked my South Korean mother! She was, however, nodding in agreement the whole time (except for 2010... that seems more Korean-American). She said that Korean style "was the same" as American, and looking at my family's photos, it pretty much was. I guess the K-pop movement was when they went crazy... :)
south korean fashion and beauty is very western (until recently, the 2010s is of course very wrong). korean pop culture is very edgy and urban OR classy and high end. it's been heavily influenced by the western world.
Korea Junkies Koreans have been on that Western trend since.. forever.... till the mid 2000s where guys look every single kpop star known to man and the girls looking the same as every girl in Korea
I'm so glad I clicked on these videos. They're very well put together, and obviously a lot of research goes into them as well. I look forward to seeing more!
Because they don't have individuality or freedom to wear what they please. Thus, they have a limited amount to what they can wear. Plus, North Korea isn't as exposed to western culture as the South is.
South Korea is very westernized with the media and such. I never said that it was the better choice. What I'm trying to point out is that these people to even get the chance to express their styles and creativity in they way that they like. Or the government goes after them. Okay, you like the more conservative way of dressing, but it's not like these people have options to wear anything different.
idk why, but i'm in love with the 1910's style. its almost like french court styles in the 17th century. natural skin, almost demure in a way. hardly any make up on, and then this extraordinary hair with intricately crafted jewels adorning it.
2010 was 7 years ago. What do you expect? This is 2017,of COURSE it looks different. Also, pretty sure that look was inspired by one of the members from 2NE1. So, there.
Agreed. Id say 2010s is more focused on the dewy natural makeup youthful doll like look. Not intense cat eye. You do not see korean stars looking anything like how girls in the usa look at all.
Does anyone know her name? She's so beautiful, she literally looked like a iconic movie star in all of this looks and something about her face, so strong yet delicate. Such a charming face indeed
***** well thats just a lie . . .all thats banned is like bestiality, snuff films and a couple other things - and they're illegal to produce in england , not to watch ....
Sorry but this is inaccurate. The 2010s is very outdated, it seems more suited for the 2000s. Nowadays Koreans go for a more natural look with minimal makeup, such as straight eyebrows
I agree. I lean towards Korean makeup too and it looks NOTHING like that. Straight brows, tear bags, dewy skin, gradient lips, VERY natural eye makeup, natural blush. That's generally what it looks like.
y'all saying the NK side is prettier because it's more natural... you guys don't realize that they don't look that way because they want to. they don't wear dramatic make up because they can't. they are oppressed. all of you saying SK is just full of plastic surgery... at least they chose to do it, not forced. don't praise NK's look because that look is NOT an option. make up is a way to express yourself and they are not allowed to.
yes, but that make-up is from 2000-2010's KPop idols.. In two years, if they add a new image, they will add an idol similar to the nowadays popular ones.
I feel like the last one for South Korea wasn't THAT accurate though. I was waiting for the Chestnut/Blonde/Light brown dyed hair that's been trending there now, lol even in men. Oh and the lip stain trend. And that really thin eyeliner I think , oh and the thick but faint eyebrows with not much of an arch...i think lol that's pretty much I all I see
***** I disagree with that statement. For one, in the 2000's when I traveled to China practically every girl I encountered had the exact same hairstyle, which did NOT look like the 2000s hairstyle depicted in this video for South (or North) Korea. I won't deny though that fashion in China is indeed influenced by Korea and Japan, just as fashion in the U.S. (just singling out the U.S. since that's where I was born and raised) has been inspired by TONS of other countries and cultures.
do you mean by her looks or just the makeup style. Cause a lot Koreans actually look like that.Well not just like her but not all have small faces and big eyes.
She means the makeup style and she's absolutely correct. I'm Korean American and live in Seoul and everyone I know uses: pink tint, and decent eyeliner and not like the horrendous example up there.
The alternative style of make-up in this video is similar in style, but there are countless people in Korea and there are countless senses in Korea.Especially, I don't think the 2010 style looks like Koreans. In 2010, there was no such style.
John 유튜브 I totally agree! Koreans, even at formal events, prefer thick and straight eyebrows, a bit of eyeshadow, no false lashes (or at least lashes that are less dramatic) and definitely less blush and bronzer. They focus more on the "natural" look and use, sometimes excessively, highlighter to bring up their features! Also I believe the hair needs some adjustment too!

I'm Korean and we live in Busan, Korea Republic of and the 2010 style is not like that in Korea, we do not do western makeup, it's too much for us. All of us Koreans don't wear makeup to be honest all we wear is skin care products!
KawaiiKookie 귀엽다먹고 I’m pretty sure the 2010’s were inspired by the Korean girl group, “2NE1”.
Arceus. sLIMEs
Oh! I see!
Then why do all Koreans that I've met wear foundation that's like 100 shades lighter than their original skin tone and doesn't match their faces? Like they're trying so hard to be pale; I got complimented from them all the time due to my pale skin lol.
李小叶 I'm a Korean and I want to be pale. I can't do anything about it because Im too tan and makeup isn't really good for your skin.
Arceus. sLIMEs In Argentina south america all people want to have olive skin in summer. I'm pale and in my country I can't find a foundation that matches my skin, all are darker.
I'd say that the 2010's is by far the most innacurate... Women these days prefer a more youthful, dewy, pure and natural look...
***** exactly, nothing korean on it
+Kira Kim South Korea is heavily influenced by murica
CogWerk not in their styling though... Makeup is way different and fashion comes and goes really fast

the 2010s south korean style doesn't seem right??!?!?
Because it isn't. It's very inaccurate
+Jamie Park what's wrong with it
It's very outdated.

Oh don't get me wrong.
Maybe it's a cultural thing where sensitivity concerns and humor may differ depending on where we're from.

this was a nice video esp. to see N. Korea. We tend to forget that they are regular people with their own beauty standard(tho more regulated) S.Korean beauty trend now tho is way less makeup.

I am the only one who actually like North Korea more? It's more natural and classy.

Good one. But less is more, and all those fake lashes and stuff are really not apealling at all.
Daniel Shin
well I was talking only about the video. And the north korean chick in it doesn't wear work clothes all the time.
Because they don't have individuality or freedom to wear what they please. Thus, they have a limited amount to what they can wear. Plus, North Korea isn't as exposed to western culture as the South is.
Why do ppl always believe that western = good/exemplar ?
South Korea is very westernized with the media and such. I never said that it was the better choice.
What I'm trying to point out is that these people to even get the chance to express their styles and creativity in they way that they like. Or the government goes after them. Okay, you like the more conservative way of dressing, but it's not like these people have options to wear anything different.
idk why, but i'm in love with the 1910's style. its almost like french court styles in the 17th century. natural skin, almost demure in a way. hardly any make up on, and then this extraordinary hair with intricately crafted jewels adorning it.
I don't really think 2010's south korea is accurate? Like they don't do western makeup, stop thinking that everyone does western makeup nowadays.
2010 was 7 years ago. What do you expect? This is 2017,of COURSE it looks different. Also, pretty sure that look was inspired by one of the members from 2NE1. So, there.

Sorry but this is inaccurate. The 2010s is very outdated, it seems more suited for the 2000s. Nowadays Koreans go for a more natural look with minimal makeup, such as straight eyebrows

2010s is nothing like Korean makeup from what I've been seeing in popular Korean culture. They seem to prefer dewy natural looks and subtle makeup compared to American style makeup. Even Pony makeup does consistent subtle looks and she's a big makeup artist.
