This is one of my favorite movies. The comedy, action, acting...it's all so good. and people who get offended by this movie just don't understand the meaning behind it and the satire. I hate that we can't just have a good laugh without the fear of someone getting offended. Also Louis was the best person to be here with you to react with haha. In this case, what is the actual joke of RDJ in black makeup? Who is being made fun of? When you answer that question, it is clear that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with this movie from a moral perspective.
You sir are legendary, i agree why are people looking for something to complain about all the time, pack of whingy whiners THIS WAS HILARIOUS BEYOND WORDS and not one of us is going to live forever, SMILE it feels great.
My favorite gag that nobody really seems to get is the one firing his guy with his hand out. Thats a knock on the Rambo movies where he has the belt fed machine gun and his other hand is holding the belt. But Ben Stillers character obviously doesn't understand that so he's just doing it with a gun without a belt. So its more than him just doing goofy shit. To me that just makes it 1000x funnier.
The film crew must have been rolling on the floor with laughter throughout the whole movie. I wonder how many scenes were ruined because people started to crack up?
Robert Downey Jr is so good in this movie there was no way for triggered people to cancel him. Also, very underrated performance from Tom Cruise. I don't think his cast was revealed before the movie was premiered (at least I had no idea he was in it) and when he appeared and gave that awesome performance everyone lost it in the theatre. It was amazing. Edit: RDJ got an academy award and a BAFTA nomination for his role, his only one since Chaplin (1993). Think about that, he's been in great movies in between.

The little jokes like the "Catcher in the Rye" reference, Cruise's dancing, spoofing of nearly every war movie like Platoon, etc. were just amazing.

Hey Ash, I know this is an old video but wanted to let ya know the fun fact that RDJ ACTUALLY stayed in character for the entire DVD commentary and it’s absolutely worth rewatching it with the commentary on whenever you get the chance in your free time
Man this is inarguably one of the greatest films, all-time. It's my favorite RDJ movie alongside Iron Man (his renaissance period was definitely his golden era) and one of his top 3 roles, easy. This movie has made me laugh for years and the opening fake ads are such a perfect setup for the tone of this movie. You should rewatch with his Hannah, I think she'd die laughing 😂
This came out when I was a senior in high school. Absolute favorite movie and quoted it all the time. RDJ stayed in character during the actor commentary just like he said
It's funny that you said "Jurassic Park deep" in reference to how remote the jungle is where the actors were taken. This movie was mostly filmed on the Hawai'ian island of Kauai, _which is the exact same place Jurassic Park was filmed._ So it's not surprising you get Jurassic Park vibes.
Ah man you two are great to see in these reactions. I'm reminded of movie nights with my boys in college. We barely get together now because of life and responsibilities but every time we get the chance to again, especially with movies like Tropic Thunder, it's always a blast. Such a great comedy. It's up there with White Chicks

Tom Cruise in this movie, he read the script and he loved it but thought something was missing. There was no studio presence in it originally. So the part was offered and he accepted on two conditions, he needed big hands and he gets to dance. A legend was born.
Ben Stiller's characters ultra-extravagant slow-mo getting-shot-to-pieces w arms out like Jesus is a jab at Platoon, which in fact feature a movie cover, with the same sort of imagery

Tom Cruise's Les Grossman character was heavily inspired by Harvey Weinstein. All those weirdly sexualized insults he dishes out to people around him was what Weinstein was known for.
Ash, I have watched Tropic Thunder so many times. I love this reaction. 9 Minutes into your reactions: Did Louis watch the movie before? Tom Cruise loved the script so much, when Stiller decided to cast himself in the lead role (after originally envisioning Keanu Reeves as the lead), Cruise called him and asked "what else is available?" Stiller suggested they write in Les Grossman, a character Cruise had created himself, allegedly based on Harvey Weinstein. Cruise said he'd do it as long as he could have fat hands and dance.
At the time, nothing about it was considered “Risk”. It was made for the simple fact of just outrageous comedy for the sake of outrageous comedy. Miss those days.
It was actually very risky back then too. Downey joked, half serious, that he hoped he wouldn't get shot at the premier. Was afraid it might derail his comeback if people misunderstood his performance. From what i've read, the majority of people who see the movie agree that it was done with great respect

Funny anecdote I read on IMBD that in the dvd commentary Robert Downey Jr spends the whole time in character. That must have been priceless and now makes me want to buy the dvd just for that reason lol
Besides this and Iron Man, RDJ preformed brilliantly in Sherlock Holmes and Due Date. The four main characters are satires of Sylvester Stallone, Russell Crowe, Chris Farley and Al Pacino. This is easily Tom Cruise's best role since Top Gun, which I highly recommend
I saw this in the theater so the fake trailers were a huge twist. They came immediately after the real ones.
Same, my friend and I were dying in the theatre...so funny
But people thought it was real🤦♀️

Genius script, great comedy! Great over-acting by many! Sometimes the best comedy is the facial expressions of the actors reacting to others! LMAO!
