Dell G15 (RTX 3060 models) Bios Update 1.2.0 Mux Added! Disable Optimus. FPS Test!

  • Dell has given the G15 a mux switch via a bios update! I tested the difference before the update, after the update (with Optimus), and finally without Optimus in XCOM Chimera Squad and Prodeus.
    Hit F2 repeatedly as soon and you turn on the laptop to get into the bios after the update.
    Sorry about the audio. Testing new mics (cheap ones) and this one isn't going to make the cut for sure.
    **This seems to be only applicable to the 3060 models for now unfortunately. Sorry 3050 owners.**

    Hi. Iam newbie here. Have a question. After updating bios, and keeping hybrid graphics ON, while keeping my laptop Plugged in (as i always play with plugged in), does the laptop take full power of nvidia ? If yes, then will there be screen tearing?

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад +2

      Hybrid graphics should be off to use just the Nvidia gpu. The display doesn’t have gsync so there could be screen tearing depending on the game. Most games can use vsync though so that’ll solve the issue of screen tearing if it happens.

      Nvidia control panel has settings to allow specific apps and games to use the discrete gpu or the integrated gpu, but it doesn't disable hybrid graphics. Also those settings are now managed via Windows Graphics Settings, but I've read it doesn't work all the time so using both might be better.
      I use Geforce experience all the time, but mainly to have it set a baseline setting for the machine, then I tweak it a bit. I've noticed it's not always the best settings, but more like a guideline for the gpu you have.

    • @Loaded0
      @Loaded0  2 года назад

      Could be a couple of things. First, make sure you’re plugged in to power. After that check to see if you’re under high performance mode in Alienware Command Center. Also try the “G” key and see if that changes anything.
      Not sure what it could be if those are fine. If it’s only for a certain game it might be because vsync or a frame limiter is on.

      I had my bios updated, and then updated it again from the website because the Dell customer support recommended that. After that the 30W lock was removed. • @Loaded0

      Hah, I’m not sure anyone ever decided which way the mux being on and off means. It depends on how the company words it. So for us hybrid graphics disabled means Optimus is off and vice versa.
      Two basic reasons to have the iGPU on is for more battery life and if you want want to use Freesync. If you’re always plugged in and you’re not sensitive to screen tearing then you can keep the iGPU off all the time.
