I wouldn't call a Porsche 914 ugly. Same for the Saab Sonett

The Saab Sonnet was actually pretty cool! The 850 cc 3 cylinder valveless piston port or third port inducted 2 stroke engine made by DKW was very cool, with a lot of power in a very small package! The exhaust note is like a newer 3 cylinder 2 stroke snowmobile engine and they sound terrific! No oil changes either, with either pre-mix gasoline/oil mixture like most 2 strokes or a deluxe oil injected version, they always had clean oil at all times. Being a 2 stroke engine fan, I think they were very cool! Some Sonnets had the German Ford 1700 cc 4 stroke 72 HP V4, a great little engine that was also unusual and sounded neat, but the 2 stroke would eat it alive in a rally race. 2 stroke SAAB cars won more rally races than all others. Awesome stuff! These later 2 strokes had 3 carburettors, one per cylinder, and actually would have easily made well over 100 HP had they had 3 separate tuned expansion chamber exhausts fitted! Nothing can even TOUCH a 2 stroke! The best walk behind lawnmower was the Lawn-Boy with reed valve induction, Schnurle porting into the cylinder, and a below deck muffler that acted as a tuned expansion chamber, tuned for high torque at lower RPM than crappy 4 strokes. Only 2800 RPM where a 4 stroke had to run 3600 RPM and was still a gutless slug that needed frequent oil top offs and pain in the butt oil changes! Good stuff! Cheers! 😋👍🏻😊

The Pacer came in 2 body styles. The coupe was slighyly odd, but the station wagon looked great. A cousin had one and loved it no end. Whrn it was about 25 years old, Anna restored it because she could not justify a new car.
Gremlin was completely figured out. From the B pillar forward it was identical to the Hornet. The V8 was the AMC developed unit. They only had 1 block, so the 401 engine was an easy swap

Who came up with this list ? Cordoba was a beautiful car, having won praise from the automotive critics of the time, there was nothing ugly about a Porsche 914 or the Saab, what was missed was the Ford Pinto, Datsun 200 and the Renault 5 LeCar. These cars were the very definition of ugly, and they weren’t included ? Renault and the Pinto sold well, but we all know what Pinto was like and the Renault was a hideous looking car as was the Datsun

The Cordoba in 75 came standard with a 400 CID 4-bbl, not the 318.
You could option down to the 360, 318, or the 225 slant 6.....or option up to the 400 HO 4bbl used in the cop cars.

I wouldn't call any of the cars featured here so ugly I wouldn't have one. The city car would be the only one I probably wouldn't own except to park it in the corner.
The Sonnet III was pretty unique, due to the many fatal accidents it was involved in, it was dubbed The Fiberglass Coffin.
I'm not sure if this was applicable to Saab line but a unique clutch that would disengage when the car wasn't under acceleration so the car would essentially coast making high speed passing a weird experience for those who were being passed by a Saab. The man a cousin of mine, was from Sweden. He was also an automobile mechanic and had only one hand, they both drove Saabs.
A coworker in the military bought a Gremlin and redid the interior and put a big engine, had it repainted and had a plate on the front license plate holder with the declaration of "Giant Killer" placed there.
I did find the Pacer a bit unnerving with the acres and acres of glass surrounding you.
Right now I'd love to have pretty much any of these cars in a collection.
I'd also like to have an electric Three wheeler with the two wheels up front and a single driving wheel in the rear.
I've owned several of what people have both lovingly and sarcastically as land yachts. I especially liked a 70s Cadillac Eldorado. A big heavy car with front wheel drive. It was a dream to drive in snow and ice.

The AMC Gremlins & Pacers looked freaky but I wouldn't call them ugly. Realistically, they were good, reliable cars. Very good gas mileage My brother had a '72 Gremlin & with the 232 six & it pretty good power & very good gas mileage & rode pretty damned good for a small car & was very reliable. You can't judge a book by its cover.
