I stopped watching tv years ago, but quickly filled that time watching youtube. lol
This is a revelation. The entire time I was a poor bachelor, I was actually a minimalist. Perspective is a wonderful thing.✌😁
I live in the U.S. and we literally just have too much stuff in this country. I’m a minimalist and I recently switched a sleeping on a Japanese futon and tatami mat on the floor and I love it. My back feels so much better. Also, my dryer broke a couple months ago and so I’ve just been hang drying everything and my clothes look better. I think the bed and dryer will no longer be something I have. I enjoy your videos.
Oh! You use futon and tatami! What a great!! If you have them, you con't need to have bed! Yes. Thanks you for watching my video!!
when i lived in Australia, we had a dryer but everyone just hang dries their clothes so it was never used
@@msjulicious Unless you live in a country where hanging it outside is not allowed, so having a washer and a dryer is a necessity.
@@Mloofylicious you can dry your clothes inside the house? And If you don't like the smell of drying clothes well... Just watch the video
We meet again haha
I've watched quite a few of "Things I don't own or buy as a minimalist" videos.. But yours is eye opening altogether. It's not the standard
I don't own/buy high heels anymore because they're uncomfortable".. Yours is a whole different level. The quality and content is amazing, hope you'll keep making these videos! Enjoyed it!
Thanks;-) I always looking for a better way!!
👍❗
Well said. I appreciate the practicality. It’s more intentional, and more about creating space for more meaningful activities.
High heels 🤣🤣🤣
@@SamuraiMatcha you're a great person indeed. Just next level. I'm happy I found ur channel 😁
I really love minimalism.
Growing up from a very poor family, our stuffs at home are very few. Never had new clothes, bags, toys, gifts, tv, radio, shoes and so on. In the kitchen, only one pan and one pot, we have to really take care of them. The cooking spoon was made out of coconut shell and bamboo.
Me and my siblings studied and worked hard so we could afford buying our own stuffs, at least the basics. In my case, i became a hoarder coz I already have the means to buy what I want.
Now, I am working hard to eliminate my stuffs, i just wanna have the life I had before...very minimal on material things and not harming the environment.
Thank you for sharing your story. I want to know what your life you had before like. I also try not to harm the environment! Thank you!
I hope this starts up again in neighborhoods. As a single mom, I started a group of like minded people where we shared large family sized groceries, especially produce; we had a toy library, books and DVD (ok, a while ago, lol), and when one rented a carpet cleaner for 24 hrs, we all used it. We had a "my time" schedule to share babysitting. it was awesome.
i love how half of your motivation to be a minimalist is wanting to do things with the least amount of effort possible. most people would think the effort of folding your underwear is so small it doesn't matter, but for some people (and i'm included in that) every little effort counts, and i appreciate a lot of your tips for keeping even small efforts in mind.
I grew up without a TV, but had one while married with kids. But now they’re all grown up and I’m once again without one. I don’t miss it at all. I might watch a movie on my tablet but I prefer reading a good book.
Interesting about magnesium 😮. The western way of life has had many people believing they need all these STUFF to be happy when it's quite the opposite. We need to rethink what our "needs" truly are... stuff only weigh us down and sqeezes the life out of us: think about how much you have to work to buy all these things you don't actually need 😶
You don't need many items to be happy;-D
What a nice idea to store all your clothes on hangers , this way not only you are able to see all of it, but also it saves your time on preparations and there is no thing such as forgotten piece of clothes you bought recently, put it somewhere in your wardrobe and forgot about its existence.
I'm on my way to become a minimalist, thanks for your videos, keep going!
I absolutely love minimalism and have recently gotten rid of unnecessary things I do not need. your videos are very inspiring. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AKI!!
These videos have inspired me to reduce and/or eliminate my excess. Especially the 30 days/one item a day video.
Talk about motivation of what really matters and what doesn’t!!
You are an amazing human. ❤️
this is a whole different level.. I'm really impressed with you thought process... seen some very new and unique things that people can live without.
Thank you so much!! It was kinda hard, but it’s worth it!!
Your videos bring me lots of happiness. Keep doing this! You are awesome!
Very inspiring. You must feel so light and free!
Yes!! I am;-)
Thank you for this list - very inspiring.
Aki hi I am from Southern part of India. Love your contents. We also sleep in the floor, instead of shampoo use crushed hybiscus leaves, use coconut husk to wash utensils. Love to watch your life. Loads of love from India ❤️
Thanks!! crushed hybiscus!? that's amazing;-D
Do you live in ancient India??
@@taval8389 no in a very modern India. But I follow our traditional way of living. 🙏
@@Kimfunfq5ol Sure u do!!
Can the crushed hibiscus leaves be used everyday to wash hair? Please share the procedures on how to make them and use them for washing hair. I desire to stop using chemicals at all costs. Thank you.
This is true minimalism! I'm pretty minimalist in the American sense (no tv, no decorative objects that have no purpose, etc.) and all of my storage fits into my small bedroom closet. Thank you for sharing this. I definitely plan on trying the magnesium and towels for starters.
Thank you for watching my video!!! magnesium is great!
decorative can have a purpose if they are pleasing to look at, or hold a memory….
I want to move from my parents' house, years ago I discovered minimalism, and I have been working on having only what I need since then, it brings me peace
I like that you are not only minimalist, but also sustainable in your lifestyle. I was very happy to see the backpack ready to travel 🚴🏻♂️
Saludos desde Argentina! 🇦🇷
Thank you for watching my video and your great comments! I try my best;-D
Me and my husband also don't have a dresser/closet/wardrobe or an iron! Just a long rail that fits perfectly on one side of our bedroom where all our clothes are hanging up and where we can see everything 😊👍
thank you! love your content
If you have long hair, just water might not be enough, but now, even mainstream brands like Garnier offer shampoo bars, they are pretty good, and light. Also, a bar of Marseille soap is good for washing dishes, for those if us who can't do without! It cuts grease really well. :-) And by the way, thank you for the tip about magnesium. I got some and it seems to be working ok. No more heavy detergent bottles to carry, yay!
Thank you for your nice comment! I've never heard about something like shampoo bars before! Thanks for the mentoring. It really helped. I feel much wiser.
@@SamuraiMatcha I've been using shampoo bars for about 4 years, made of aloe vera extract, virgin coconut and carrot oil fruit. I never missed using shampoo since then.
try Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap. u can use it for hand washing, hair, dishes, clothes, all kindsa stuff plus its organic and not made with harsh ingredients. i even have the baby version that has no essential oils incase my dog needs a scrub. ;)
@@squintygreeneyes is Dr. Bronners available also in the Philippines? I want to try anything void of chemicals and can be used in washing and cleaning practically anything and everything. Thank you.
People used to use oil for the hair in the ancient times. Not sure how well it works though. The idea is that you wash it with soap, and you oil it from time to time so that it's not dry and brittle.
I love your way and what works for you. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks! I'm so glad to hear that!
Aki, thank you for this video! You have inspired me to convert to a minimalist life style. I will be selling or donating most of the items I currently own. I appreciate you for lifting the veil of consumerism from my eyes! あなたの休日を楽しむ
Thanks Johnny! you too enjoy your holiday!
Put stuff at the thrift store w a Free sign, many are already full. Lol
I learn a lot from you; thank you for great ideas!
Thanks! I'm glad to hear that!
You make wonderful Videos! Thank you!😊 greetings from Vienna
I'm so glad to hear that from Vienna!!
Wow, soooooo deeply inspiring . Thank you so much for sharing. 🙏🙂
Thank you soooo mutch!
I'm not as minimal but I admire this. I hate furniture, use floor pillows, have twin bed, no dresser, folding camp table in kitchen. Don't use laundry soap (borax sometimes), use shampoo, no hairbrush. Everyone I know thinks it's real outlandish. Have dreams of a van life, traveling with a like-mind clan. 😊
Van life would be great! I'm also dreaming that!! I'm the first clan;-D
I am starting to recognize that, here in the U.S., most homes are furnished and designed with visitors in mind. I can appreciate some comforts, but I am very practical. I think the choices you describe make a lot of sense honestly.
I love your videos. Subscribed and binge watching all your videos now
Thank you;-D
Thank you for this video. I have searched for cotton towels and now will also find the replace sponge.
Those are good ideas! I am going to look into the Japanese towel. I switched to using a small towel instead of a big bath towel about five years ago because it was less bulky and it dries just as well. I got rid of my iron too and got a small steamer in case I need to take some wrinkles out of clothing. No ironing board and no heavy iron and takes up a lot less space! That was very interesting to see that magnesium works! I will look into that. I don't have a television, but I do like to watch You Tube for ideas and neat stories like you have, and healthy vegan cooking ideas. Thanks for great ideas and a great channel. Have a wonderful day! :D
Tenigui is great!! But I found better one recently actually. I’m gonna introduce that to you in my RUclips channel someday!! Thank you for the great comments. I’ll keep doing my best!!
I have collected tenugui because of its beautiful prints. I use it for my back when I go out on job sites, or to tie around my head when I garden. As a towel, why not? Learned something new today.
You use that!? That's amazing!
I am learning a lot from u! Thank u! 🎉
Hello from Scotland, thank you for the trash 🗑️ bin idea, I will literally adopt this idea today, thank you 🙏😎
Try using 1 tablespoon of white vinegar (for every 30 clothes) on your final wash when you do your laundry. The vinegar will help remove any smells especially if you dry your clothes indoors.
I didn't know that! I'll try it:-D
Wow I wasn't expecting many of the items you listed. It's amazing how much we can do without.
Wow awesome ❤️ I never knew this before 😔 all these days am spending soo much money on unused things n kept them not using for more than a year .... I will watch more of your videos n follow 😀 Thank you soo much
hi! thanks for sharing, you are a real minimalist!
without a TV, you wont see anything negative happens and only just focus in your self too.
Yes!
Wow!!!😍👏🙌This is really minimalism!!! I love your channel!!👍👍👍
Thanks!! happy to hear that;-D
AWESOME! Thanks how inspiring!
Thank you for watching my video;-D
Thank you for this video! Though I got rid of the TV many years ago (thank heavens!) I never imagined doing without a bed, a dresser, or a garbage can. You've shown us it can be done in style!
Thank you.Keep going.
Greetings from Serbia.
Great tips inspiring
Thanks Beth!
Great video! Soda crystals work really well in the wash because they remove odours and stains as well as soften the water. So clothing will last longer and not wear out so much after being in the machine. 💖🥰
I didn't know that! I'll try that:-D
Where can the soda crystals be bought and how can I use them for washing clothes? I am from the Philippines and desire to have a minimalist lifestyle. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing
I love your videos :)
Very good, Keep going!
Good idea, I like your idea.
Thanks for sharing 🌈
Thanks!!
Brilliant channel. Love it 👍🍻
Thanks!!!
I also don't have a trash can, a TV and an iron. Without bed I couldn't make it for long... I tried it all, but a certain hight is definitely good for getting up especially at a certain point of age.
And some of the things are actually not minimalist 😄 Yes, you don't have a standard towel, but you have something else instead isn't it? The Japanese towel we also have here for camping. For me it is a question of how much comfort do I want to have. For me they're excellent for travelling, but on the long run I prefer a cozy towel.
I love ur videos and being minimalist
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aki…I’m impressed with your choices…I will follow your lead💋
Thanks!!
You can also buy soap nuts in place of laundry detergent. I’ve heard it works really well too. Thanks for all the great tips in the video, i love your channel!!
This one , right? www.amazon.co.jp/NaturOli-Berries-Seedless-Cleaner-Processed/dp/B001DU6SWA
I've never heard about it before! Thank you for telling me.
ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%88%E3%83%81%E3%83%8E%E3%82%AD
This tree belongs to the biological family of the "soaptrees" and it grows also in Japan. The nuts of the tree have "saponine" which are washing tensides. You love being in nature, maybe you would like to collect your own washing nuts in autumn when they are ready. They are also other plants with washing power. all the best, e.
What are soap nuts and can those be found here in the Philippines? Thank you.
Many good ideas . Bravo.
This was next level
Dig your videos and perspective. Learned a lot from this one again. I've been using 2 Thermarest Prolite Mattresses to sleep on, would never go back to a soft mattress. They also work well as a meditation cushion when folded up. :)
I use linen towel. It's light and dries pretty fast.
Your videos have been inspired and refreshing to me. I think I have a tendency to over complicate life and get overwhelmed. What you’ve shown about your lifestyle are refreshingly simple and I’d like to replicate that, even if it’s just a little bit at a time.
My wife wanted me to ask you how you deal with people gifting you unnecessary things you don’t need in polite ways? We are recently married and both of our families are always buying us stuff for when we get a house of our own. We appreciate them doing that but it’s too much. Because they are going out of their way to buy things for us we feel rude turning them away. Any recommendations?
It’s important to take the gifts from your friends because your friends care about you. You can decide use it or get rid of it. The purpose of presents is receiving and being thankful.
Maybe make it known you don't need any more things. Nobody does. You can skip gifting most of the time to no awful outcome. I haven't done Christmas in many years. I didn't need to spend a lot of money. The kids didn't need to be spoiled and I didn't need to take things home.
Nice gifts: a plant or a nice flower arrangement in say an ice cream glass. Soaps. Think small and personal. Things from Etsy. Like handmade items. Nice coffee or teas. Experiences, like massages or hairstyling.
😀watching this video makes me want to clean my house 😃 you’re so tidy and clean. Have a good day 😃
Great content 👏
Thanks;-D
After 20 hours of watching tv my life satisfaction has reduced by 100%
haha! You definitely don't need TV.
Lovely video
I like your list. I know that I have too much stuff. The one thing that I would always want to keep is my artwork. It brings me joy. My African art collection reminds me of my ancestors and makes me feel connected to them.
I have many back problems, and I am happily married. A bed is a necessity for me. However, after watching this video, I am inspired to clean clutter more when I see it.
I am abstaining from alcohol now, and learning about different things to drink. Your Matcha video is what led me to your other videos.
As a farmer, and a former soldier, I have many habits and things I cannot get rid of or cut out from my life.
Edit: My Wife and I will never move again. This is our “Forever Home” and our dream come true. We have land and livestock, as well as our gardens.
The beautiful thing is that there is always more to learn!
Best wishes to you!
Maybe the back problems are CAUSED by the mattress? I've thought about that because twice in my life I've had extremely memorable sleep, and neither was at home.
I figure it may be worth a shot if you can send it back...?
Distilled white vinegar is a great water softener for the laundry for cleaner clothes.
Oh man, I wish I could find the Biwako Fukin somewhere but I can’t seem to find it anywhere to purchase over the internet which is very unfortunate. I’ve been looking for an alternative dishcloth to the nasty things that are used here (Germany) for ages and the fact that you don’t need to use any soap with it anymore is just so amazing!
Great laundry ideas!
Wow, thank you for your video! I can say it`s another level of minimalism :D
It`s eye opening
And can you, please, answer for my question? Is your bamboo bike really durable? I`m from Russia and I afraid it can`t lives in this diverse climate more than 1-2 years.
Thank you !!!
👍👍😆
Nice video!
I love your content! I wonder if you have a product list? Your floor mat, sleeping bag, towels, bike, and iron kettle are beautiful & sustainable. I would love to use them myself one day.
He has a bunch of stuff listed in his other video about his 12 essential items
The shipping on the bike would probably cost more than the item. Nice idea, tho.
Man, you're inspiring! Thanks for your videos, I loved it. It seems I'll start a new life in the new future and I have a chance to question the necessity of the things that I used to use every day at home. You helped me a lot, thank you so much! :) The solution you find for the bed is lovely, I'll definitely get one. It functions also as a couch. So, the only things that I need on day 1, are the folding mattress and a desk to work. I was also questioning the vacuum cleaner and ta taam, you gave me the idea. :) No more wardrobes and much more. Lovely solutions.
But don't you need a pillow? Are you comfortable without it? I'm always sleeping not on my back, but on my sides.
I love you lifestyle good job and I am from Hong Kong
I am from a very sunny area in Spain. We have no roofs, we have terraces in top of the houses so we can dry the clothes there. Now I live in UK where it rains and I still do not use a dryer.
This is really cooler than cool. Thank you for sharing. I would love to share this video on my Facebook page if that is ok.
Thanks! That's no problem;-D
It looks like camping overall inspired you to live like this, as if camping in your own home. That's cool cuz when u sleep at camp u still feel like ur bed at home. 俺も大人になったらこんな生活がしたいなあ
そうですね!キャンプをするように生きてます!最終的にはバック一つでどこでも生きていけるようになりたいですね〜
I love watching your videos. I compared myself with you while watching this video. I do not have TV either. I work in my garden planting fruits and vegetables, feed my geese , chicken and fish therefore I do not need to iron my clothes. I have many "Tenugui" and did not what to do with them, after watching your videos, now I know how to use them.
For shampoo and soap, since I have planted many kinds of herbs, my friends asked me to make herbal oil soaps for them. Every time I learn about new herbs, I make soap and use them to make sure they are good for my customers. I also make herbal shampoo because one of my friends had lost a lot of her hair. After using the shampoo I made for her, her hair starts to grow again so shampoo from my point of view is a bit different.
Anyway I have learned so much from you. Please keep on doing this great work. ขอบพระคุณค่ะ Big ❤️ from Thailand.
Nice tip to wash the laundry with magnesium. I need to check it out👍
Yes, it is!
Love it
I love your bamboo bike. Wish I could get one here in New Zealand
😉👍
Greetings from Holland and a big arrigato👍👍
I have not owned or used an iron for 20 years. Most materials today do not need ironing if hung properly to dry.
Yes! That's true!
My grandmother always hung her clothes up on a line outside to dry. I loved the smell and the crispiness of the fabric. Unfortunately, I cannot do that because of my severe allergies. I live in the US and in my area pollen covers everything in the spring. You come outside and cars are completely covered in yellow and green pollen dust. I often have to wear a mask in the spring to get to my car. Even if I didn’t have allergies, I wouldn’t want to be wearing clothes and using towels covered in pollen. You are fortunate that you don’t have to experience this where you live.
Very good❤
I love a good mattress but I see no need for a bed frame since I like my bed low to the floor anyway :) saves buying one, and it’s easy to put the mattress against the wall if I want some space! 😃
I was waiting for you to say, I don't live in a house because you can't take it with you. You're seriously one step up from a homeless person. I wish I could live in an RV and be a minimalist that way. 😉
Merci🙋
Merci;-)
I always have a bunch of tenugui sitting around and I didn't know what to do with them, until I saw your videos and you're right ! They're so much better than regular towels and my long thick hair dried a lot faster using one yay ^___^
Hi Aki, wow I just love your videos so unbelievably much! I'm now thinking about also buying a GOKUMIN Mattress. What width is yours? I can't really tell from the video. Thanks!
I will be looking into the Tenugui, Happy Mag (magnesium) and Biwakofukin.
Yeah!! They are great!
Hello, I'm new at thid channel. I like your minimalist life style.
Thanks Lena-san😊👍😊👍
I find a hammock to be great for sleeping. It's much more portable and easier to clean. You'll need to have two mounts on the wall though
Water and mag are not enough to remove dirt from clothes, since we produce oils which are fat-based.
Asians apparently don't have body odor.
So many same things : no TV- only my lovely Mac , no litter bin , shampoo -only ones a week- another days only water , no ironing - T-shirts, jeans , backpack, sneakers ... But I have books- a lot !...and I want to read all of them !!
I have some booth as well😃 it’s good to have something what you really love☺️
Suggestion? Since they attract lots of bugs and dust, maybe use the library to save some "for later" on their website.
They also have tons of things besides books. Dvds, cds, and downloadable media like movies. Books, magazines.
I have the same issues. So, I designate a spine bookshelf for regular sized books, and just pick the ones I really like and am reading.
If you give each one a chapter or two, you'll easily find the ones you like or don't. Then, that frees up time and space for things you really DO like.
This is just me, but cockroaches eat the glue, as do silverfish. So, nothing should ever be sitting around unused. I knew someone who had that problem and it was just horrific.
I do it, too, but I've done the above and the herd is gradually thinning. Bring the others to a charity thrift store marked FREE after they close, so they don't have so much they can't get through. Someone will grab things first. Jmo.
Great video. Thank you. Could use vinegar to wash clothes ? 🤔
Hi from palermo in Italia
J like your video
I'm minimalist and essentialist.
I'm so glad to hear that from Italia!! Thank you!!
I have a channel with my name. Eliana cipolla
Awesome video! Is the biwako fukin antibacterial or... How does that work exactly?
This is made of uneven threads so that it can take in oil and dirt and have excellent absorbency!
i'm not a minimalist but i try to simplify and declutter as much as possible. i don't have a tv either or a trashcan bc i think they've become obsolete. i did however buy a little cleaning robot bc it helps keep the floors clean. otherwise i don't like buying new appliances or new tech.
i mean removing a blanket is basicly removing enjoyment laying in bed. And i love it. But some of them are actually interesting.
Thanks;-D
