Kevon, one of the things I really enjoyed about this interview is that as an interviewer, you let Richard speak without a zillion (unnecessary) questions as some interviewers feel they should do; because clearly, he already came with very powerful, insightful, and enlightening things to say on his own that all musicians could suck in and learn from. For example, the first time I heard 'Don't Cry', 'Secret Place' and 'That Name' I just knew Richard Smallwood had something to do with them.
I listened to "Trust Me" on repeat when I was in the hospital at one of the most challenging parts of my journey with lupus. It was the reminder I needed that the Lord will never leave me! This has been such a blessing! I’ve been struggling with my lack of consistency in sitting down to write songs! To find that someone as great as you writes in somewhat the same manner (although LOADS better) is quite an encouragement! Really hoping Richard Smallwood sees this... he may not remember me but back in the late 80’s early 90’s I played percussion at Metropolitan Baptist Church (with Maurette Brown-Clark, David Warr, Greg Grainger, etc.) I used to just sit in the background and admire your talent. I’ve since then started playing keyboard myself and you are the first person I tried to study. I haven’t gotten anywhere near your level, but I’m not doing bad! Thank God, thanks for Richard and thanks to you as well Kevon! I love how you infuse pure talent with humor! A favorite has interviewed another favorite!
