    I had an Amish family stop in my front yard. Their horse was overheated and they asked if I had any water. I made them pull up in the yard under my 50 foot maple tree. I had a clean 5 gallon bucket and brought out the garden hose. I ran the water until it was nice and cold. The horse drank a few gallons and he was rubbing it down. I told them they could stay there for 8 hours because I didn't care. I went into the house and got some of those red solo cups and put ice and lemonade in them. I didn't know if they liked ice but it was a hot day. I took them out and they all accepted them. I asked them if they were hungry because I could make some hot dogs on the grill. They said no. They were there over an hour and then I took out some popsicles. Their two kids beamed with smiles as they ate them. The mom and dad said it was unusual for their horse to act up so the stopped to see if it could cool down. I told them they were welcome anytime. They stayed about another half hour and were on their way. They tried to pay me for the lemonade. Wow. They were beyond friendly and the breeze blowing through the corner of the house and that tree felt like air conditioning on a hot day. I'll never sell this house.

    Well I’m sure you will enjoy meeting the Amish, they are very nice friendly folks that would bend over backward to help you if you broke down. Back about 40 years ago I sold them some standardbred horses that just were not fast enough, they treat the animals good, they use the horses I sold to pull their buggy with the family in it.

    I currently live in Wv but I am from Ohio. We had amish all over where I am from. You ran into them in all kinds of stores, passing the buggies on the roads (some with deep grooves from their wheels) & at the flea markets. There was one particular family that sold baked goods at the Andover flea market & that is some of the best eats! She made whoopie pies, donuts, breads, & all kinds of treats that often sold out really fast. They were really nice people.

    Many years ago I worked for a company that hired Amish teams for their framing and roofing. They had what wasn't much bigger than a 4'x4' shack out at the road that had a powerline and phone line gong to it, basically just a small desk, an answering machine (this was before VoiceMail was a thing) and a phone for the business line. They said that separated it enough to be "allowed". Had to be a certain distance from the "dwelling" and only used for work.

      For those who are not of the Amish or Mennonite community probably don't know that within both communities there are different "levels" of how conservative they are. They vary from no electricity super conservative in other areas as well to where most people won't know the difference that they're from those communities of faith. This has been this way for decades (at least) and something I wasn't even aware of to the extent growing up in the community myself.

      @@mariposavioleta9007 YES! It all depends on the Ordnung rules with each order. Some are Old Order Amish where the rules are far stricter. The phone shacks or phone shanty as some call it, are used sometimes for several neighbors. They might use gas run generators to provide the power.

      @@WybleFamilyAdventures We had an Amish community 5 miles north of our home farm, Mennonites 15 miles to the south.
      The Mennonites had about everything found in our homes or on our farms except TVs and radios. The Amish were living life like it'd be in the 1830s. The community did own a van and have a hired driver to take the women 20 miles to a grocery store, but not all would even ride in it. The community also had a wagon mounted diesel motor they'd pull to fields to canvas belt power thrashers, corn shellers, etc, but those two items were their only modern convivences. Not even all would accept a ride if they were walking and you stopped.
      Their store had such wonderful homemade items and their stands at the farmers markets had the largest crowds until they sold everything.

      @@WybleFamilyAdventures that makes sense. We repo buildings down here in Georgia. A repo driver could write a book on all the things we get into and see while doing this. Our latest greatest hit was 12x40LBC down in Thomasville, Ga. Customer cut it in half and attached the front half to the side of his mobile home. Once attached, he cut a hole in the mobile home. The back half, he took the siding and metal roof off and put on an old building on his property. Well, one writ of possession and a deputy sheriff later, he had a large hole in the side of his mobile home that opened up to the world. Never fails to amaze me what these people do with these buildings.

They don't use electric in their homes (they will have electric in their commercial stores) or other modern conveniences; however, they have no problem using other non-Amish people's electric (near their homes) or hitching rides in cars to go places. (You just have to make sure you get paid for the usage, either in money or work). I went to garage sales this weekend and there were a ton of Amish hitting the sales too, riding with the "English" (which is their term for the non-Amish). • @morgellonsdirect513
    @morgellonsdirect513 2 года назад

    It may be a repo in a community that has an Amish settlement, but this is not a repo from the Amish. Your title is misleading. The Amish build their own buildings. It is ungodly for an Amish to keep their property in this kind of disrepair and they would NOT wire this building for electricity. They also do not believe in debt so they would not be financing a building.

      @@WybleFamilyAdventures then the building belonged to someone else on non-Amish property, who was paying for it, not the Amish, unless they were shunned Amish, in which case they are no longer able to depend on their community for support.
