Deep in the countryside of Kentucky is a thriving Amish and Mennonite world. A place that feels removed from America, where time slows down and things are done traditionally. Join me and non-Amish local Steven Haste who dives us into the local culture and explains why he prefers to live in an Amish/Mennonite community vs. the outside world.

I live in Morgan County, KY about a hundred miles east of Casey County. When we were hit by a devastating tornado in 2012, our Mennonite neighbors stepped up to help in a major way. I personally had a group of Mennonites show up to help clear my lot of debris so I could rebuild. They also rented heavy equipment and dredged our creek to get the debris out. And they did the same for every neighbor who had damage. They are the best neighbors a person could want.

Your comment is very enlightening. My wife and I try to be very traditional and biblical like Titus, yet people in my general denomination (SDA, which Titus loosely identifies with as well) tell us that we should not dress that way because we would look too much like the Amish and turn people away. I think Titus is distinct in that he is authentic and biblical and yet does not act pushy as some very religious (but not spiritual) people do.

Peter, this is my favorite RUclips channel. I enjoy learning about how other people live. One thing I’ve seen in your channel is that most people are generally good people. It doesn’t matter whether they come from Flint or Eastern Kentucky, most people have good hearts. Many times in life all we see is the bad, but this channel illustrates the good. Keep up the good work.

We are actually losing it. It is very scary times here and we are living in the last days. They are highly encouraging homosexuality and discouraging Christianity. They are teaching in schools and colleges God is a myth. Being atheist and pagan is popular. Sex is really being pushed as well as pushing killing babies through abortion. it will only get worse. I wish I had moved to a community like this in the 80s. I am so tempted to move there now but I feel my children need me right now even though they are adults. People who live here are blessed.

If you're gay, trans, but or any other type of pervert that had perverted the natural way of man, you're worshipped on the left. They are willing to teach 7 year olds how to perform gay sex and oral, but don't think about telling them the 10 about commandments. Hey Peter. A town you might consider is Cairo, Illinois - at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers at the very bottom of the state. Cairo was the Civil War HQ for Grant and Sherman during the Mississippi campaign including Vicksburg. The town is down on its luck and partially deserted today but had a population of over 15,000 in 1920. A little scary maybe (like Gary) but super interesting!!

Everybody's human, no matter what face they show to the world. But a person's inherent godliness and value to a God-centered community lies in their actions, not their rules or words. This gentleman John Yoder got a raw deal and I only wish a lifetime of pure love, compassion and happiness for him and his family.

In theory that sounds nice. In reality that is not what is happening - Abuse is hidden, it is very hard for the kids to break out and choose another life style, hell they are so isolated they cannot even SEE there is another reality than the one their parents chose and force-chose for them.
You don't own your kids, you caretake and guard them till they are adult and then they must be ready for society, all of it, that is the point of parenting, not to get farming slaves.
Just 8 grades of classes means you are doomed to do hard labor for life with no social movement possible without extreme work ahead of them.
It's a cult that guards their own part of a world, which is fine if its just you but IS child abuse if you deny your children a future with an actual choice for them.

    • @NoahFroio
      @NoahFroio 7 месяцев назад

@@barath4545 100%, but that sort of abuse is literally, everywhere in the USA right now and has been for a long time. Tens of thousands of kids across the country, never finish school, because their parents are absent in their duties, but that doesn't mean all is bad here. Take Titus for example, he helps his neighbors, his neighbors help him, the guy with the barn, it was back up in days, here in California, that would take years and hundreds of thousands of dollars and likely, not one neighbor would help in the build. Yes, bad is everywhere, it was mentioned in this video, but, don't stain the entire community on the actions of the few. This is how the majority choose to live, if not, it wouldn't still be a thing. Focusing on the bad is what is getting this country where it is today, there is far more good than bad, but we just love our Doom Loops.
And, to say they are solely relegated to a life of hard labor on an 8th grade education is just baseless and sounds really biased and unthoughtful. Remember the guy mentioning one who became an Engineer? School is meant to give you a base, higher education doesn't necessarily have to be at a college.

@@barath4545there's good and bad and both of you have valid points. I dont think its beneficial to point to the outliers though.
Is getting 6 figures in debt by continuing post secondary educatuon the right way? Lots of people would say no.
If you know what you need to know to be competant by grade 8 and get out and work to help your family, is it really wiser to stay in school and then go to work for 50hrs for a salary to make somebody else's family wealthy?
Not everything needs to feed an industry and if you arent in a large amount of debt, how much money do you really need?

Clicked so fast. I’m 29 years old now and grew up at the Jersey Shore but when I was a little girl I was fascinated with the Amish and my parents would drive me to Lancaster to drive around and shop. I’ll never forget a tour of an Amish home. As a kid it even inspired me to go to farm camp where I milked a cow and made hand churned ice cream and wore a straw hat. I’m a big girl now and I still am fascinated with the way of life. I need to make the drive out soon.

Rural Lancaster is still beautiful and timeless, despite the tourism, strip malls and the Amish leaving for places like OH and KY. Take Amtrak from Philly to Lancaster during the day, and you're bound to look out the windows and see buggies and farms that appear transplanted from the 18th Century.
As someone who grew up in Lancaster with Swiss Mennonite ancestry, I've always wanted to explore the various Anabaptist enclaves in other states.
