This is the second homesteader video I watched today that had a drunk driver causing a crash! Unfortunately, in the other one the husband was killed and the wife and 2 small children were severely injured. If any of you also watch The Kneady Homesteader, maybe you could go over and let them know that you are thinking of them.
yes indeed go over,,, drinking and driving is pre med i ate ted red rum. in the matt and heather story. and in yours it is still pre med i ate ted _________(fill n blank) when you start your car you know if you have consumed alcohol. the losers destroying our govt r tripping on the protection and dr suess instead of example: making drivers b charge w pre med, instead of mans laughter... wow , really? 'mans laughter'?? my bad. these drivers need help yes, of course, i demand Heathers driver be charged with the fullest, just shy of death row. i hope dude has to do serious restitution to you kids. if your tree dies, i don't know, when something you love/care about and it has a heartbeat then someone kills that heartbeat they must be forced to face consequences. especially doing it under the influence of alcohol. smoke jane instead. we need Jesus back in our schools. since TEXAS is being clear w no masks as of 3/10 it would be fitting for a pledge and a prayer so Jesus can see all our smiles again. peace be upon you.
I detest drunk drivers and gave no, none, nada empathy for them. They kill people because unfortunately the drunk usually lives. They should go to jail first time until they have gone through drying out and have ankle bracelets to assure they go through rehab. Ugh, I am thinking again about Heather, The Kneady Homesteader and her recent loss of her husband and what she and her kids are enduring because of a drunk driver.
Years ago, an impaired driver rolled his car like a corkscrew through our yard. Police and fire/rescue arrived to take care of everything. Driver was ok. Our trash cans were pulverized and trash had been shot all over the road. While the driver was being cared for, I busied myself getting the trash and container remnants off the road. I FORGOT that I was supposed to put money under my daughter’s pillow for a lost tooth. Next morning, my daughter was so upset that the Tooth Fairy had failed her duties. I told her about the accident in front of the house. With all the sirens and lights and activity, I was certain the Tooth Fairy had been scared away. My daughter considered that and added that the Tooth Fairy definitely wouldn’t want the police catching her sneaking into our house! Lol!
Funny story: my granddaughter lost a tooth two years ago when she was 8, and she was scared of the thought of someone sneaking into the house and putting money under her pillow so she wrote a note to the tooth fairy to just leave the money on the table downstairs hahaha
And some people say trees devalue the house!....HA!!...that just raised the price on that house!....hhmm...maybe they should put rubber baby buggie bumpers on them???
If you're so inclined, you file an insurance claim against the owner of the car for damage to the tree. Probably the guy that ran off. Leaving the scene of an accident will land that guy in even more trouble on top of the drunk driving. Thankfully he didn't hit your house.
Oh my gosh. My stress leave went from 0 to 90 in seconds. I was looking after my granddaughters at the time. The 5 year old said nana you have to watch the lovely lady and the beard man they might need your help. My heart melted. I live in the UK she was putting on her boots so we could come and help. What can you say to that
It sounds like they would have had plenty of DNA information. Given his self preservation mode, I would imagine that he is known to the force. Thankfully, no one in the house was injured, although it would have shaken all.
So thankful Todd is alright. People can be crazy, especially in a situation like that. It is sometimes hard to balance our desire to help with the need to keep our selves safe. Please, please be careful!!! You're wonderful people and we want you around for a good, long time!! Bless you! 💗
There’s a black tar like substance that arborist use when grafting or pruning damaged limbs that can be painted onto a wounded area that prevents insects from causing more damage. Hope you can save that lovely tree!

I'm glad you two weren't hurt. A couple years ago I was the first person to get to the office in the morning. There was a car out front with two people slumped over and the front of the car all banged up. I called the cops right away. Drunk driving is inexcusable.
True, anyone can loose control of a car or have any other natural or mechanical issues with it, but drinking and driving is your choice, and like you said completely inexcusable. 😡
It's been 18 years since I got a call to come home from work because there was a Buick sitting in the middle of my living room. Scary sight. (Luckily no one was hurt and no one was home at the time.) Glad you were safe. And today we finished cooking down maple sap. Been an all weekend job- but oh so worth it.
i just watched another channel that popped up : " The Kneady Homesteader" she is also in Michigan.. a drunk driver hit her and her family head on. lost her husband and she is severly injured. a miracle that she survived.
Hope they find the driver soon and that he is ok! That poor maple tree took some damage but I'm sure it will be ok! New to the channel and thank you for sharing this scary event. -Rusty

You might check with your homeowners insurance and see if they will pay for the arborist to work on the tree. Also you can call the sheriff or police, tell them it was your yard and ask them if they found the guy. They should be able to tell you at least that much. Glad you are safe.
This is so sad to hear about because of what recently happened to "The Kneady Homesteaders" family. Matt was killed by a drunk driver and the family was in the hospitals for a long time. Prayers for all involved.

The guy was a knucklehead -they are going to find him by his license plate number. The gash on his head will verify it's him. People never cease to amaze me.
A college classmate once told me she was in a bad car accident that launched her through the windshield. Apparently, she was running around in circles muttering odd sentences, face covered in blood from the lacerations, very bad concussion. Pretty scary!
I’m sure the alcohol didn’t help lol They will find him though for sure. His injuries, fingerprints and the license/registration will make it pretty easy
If you can get the police report, you need to file with his insurance company. Your tree should be covered, provided he had coverage. You could also file with your company and they would subrogate against his company.
So glad you all are ok, and hope your tree isn’t to bad. Things like this put you in shock, rest and take care of you. The police will find the guy, hope he is ok and able to straighten himself out.

Im not to surprised your tree got it when Patti and I visited yall I was driving kind of slow on that rod and people were passing us like we were sitting still. I didn't know the road and its got some pretty sharp curves in it. Glad it wasn't worse hope the guy is ok.
Wow, this story brought back memories! When I was a kid, we lived in a hilly rural area of Puerto Rico, and our house was immediately past a sharp curve in the road. During the four years we lived there, not less than four, and it might have been more, cars coming down that hill missed the curve and crashed into our extremely solid concrete fence. After the first accident, I remember my mother kept a stack of clean towels and various first aid supplies (including a tourniquet!) in a box on the porch, so she could take it with her out to the road if there was another accident --- and it came in handy more than once. Considering that she was often there alone with us kids while my dad was in the States, had no telephone for most of that time (it took forever to install phones in PR back then), and the only locals who would miss that curve were men who had been drinking too heavily at the bodega up the hill, I realize in hindsight she was a pretty gutsy lady.

Web had that happen when we lived in the city years ago. Thankfully, we had a tree by the driveway or the vehicle could’ve hit our house. The guy bailed as well, but the vehicle caught fire. My son had nightmares for a while, as he was only 4 at the time, and the vehicle/ fire was very close to the house. Thankfully, the fire stations are close by in the city, and law enforcement is as well. Glad to be in the country now, for sure. I’m so glad you guys are ok.
Gahh what a mess! I am so sorry that you had to deal with that. We live right on Middlebelt Rd. and one of my biggest fears has always been that something like this will happen on our property. We have had multiple deer hit in front of our house, but never a person crashing into a tree!! Todd you handled the situation so well.
Man. What a crazy night. I gotta say it, though... That tree took quite a bit and held her ground. I'm impressed! But I could definitely tell sweet Rachel was shaken and upset about the whole ordeal. Though it was a rotten move on that guy's part to be drinking and driving, and then ultimately leave the scene, I hope he's okay. I have to hold out hope that people like that can be fixed after losing my Gramps similarly.

Things like this make it hard to just jump in and help people who are in trouble.... You never know if someone is in a bad place and doesn't care if they hurt you too...Praise God the two of you are safe and I do hopethat fella did get some help as you said Rachel.

Web had that happen when we lived in the city years ago. Thankfully, we had a tree by the driveway or the vehicle could’ve hit our house. The guy bailed as well, but the vehicle caught fire. My son had nightmares for a while, as he was only 4 at the time, and the vehicle/ fire was very close to the house. Thankfully, the fire stations are close by in the city, and law enforcement is as well. Glad to be in the country now, for sure. I’m so glad you guys are ok.
Gahh what a mess! I am so sorry that you had to deal with that. We live right on Middlebelt Rd. and one of my biggest fears has always been that something like this will happen on our property. We have had multiple deer hit in front of our house, but never a person crashing into a tree!! Todd you handled the situation so well.

Man. What a crazy night. I gotta say it, though... That tree took quite a bit and held her ground. I'm impressed! But I could definitely tell sweet Rachel was shaken and upset about the whole ordeal. Though it was a rotten move on that guy's part to be drinking and driving, and then ultimately leave the scene, I hope he's okay. I have to hold out hope that people like that can be fixed after losing my Gramps similarly.
