Man, watching these videos and watching some of the things that were possible in 3.5 get reduced to 5e comparisons really hurts. Like I often wonder if 5e players (who didn't previously play 3e) can even comprehend the level of shenanigans this CR40 dragon could accomplish with it's Epic Level abilities. It's one of the things that I miss most from 3e era, the truly insane things Epic Level style creatures could do.
Tbf as a DM, you could make it part of the mythos of truly ancient creatures of high magic that they follow the rules of 3.5e rather than 5e - that way their primordial power seems almost incomprehensable/incomparable to newer creatures operating by the rules of lesser magics. It's kindof like how Courage the Cowardly dog would occasionally switch up the animation styles for some of its creepier villains to make them eldritch compared to the rest of the show. It's basically your way of saying 'you can't win this fight, your best hope is survival' that's can make even high level parties realise they're still small fish on a cosmic scale.
There's this fantastic little website that allows me to make statblocks for 5e. So far, it hasn't stopped me from making ridiculous CR leveled monsters
Like the force and prismatic dragons? Man, the prismatic dragons were something else. It's a good thing force dragons were aloof of everything and prismatic dragons were just so dang chill and amused by everything, or else they'd have ruined everything.
The table I'm running is about to hit Castle Naerytar for the first time. These videos plus the Dragon Hoard book from your store are really going to flush out our campaign. Your armor redesign is now table law. Your videos are the law and history of our tables. As the DM I have your DnD Lore playlist run at night. Your voice is perfect and the audio queues can be very relaxing. If I could tell RUclips any reason I pay for premium, it would have to be your Lore videos. Seriously, thank you for your work. I've made sidequest one shots based on your monster videos and my party will never look at black slime the same again.
These stupidly powerful dragons are SO FUKING COOL They are at a level of power that put them nearly on par with lesser gods, and yet you might actually meet them. Even talk with them, having a pleasant conversation...all withouth knowing it. Or knowing it and turning a lot of pants brown in the process.
13th level spell slots?!? Those are literal god level spells! How is Mystra okay with that? Okay, for quickened spells, but still insane! To make Inferno more dangerous I'd give his fire breath attacks the ability to turn immunity to resistance and ignore resistance, because it's so effing hot.
I agree, even 11th level spells are well into god tier. I believe a 13th level spell was used to permanently affect the entirety of the magic underlying the universe according to canon.
Mystra doesn't interfere directly with a magic user's power, she just doesn't allow the existence 13th level spells so at the end those 13th level spell slots only can be used to empower lower level spells
I’ve never played DND a day in my life… but man, your videos are always so interesting to me! I binge your stuff when I’m cooking, or going to sleep. I especially LOVE the dragon content lol.
I built a Commander Deck with Inferno as the Commander. It's fun to come out of nowhere and shoot your opponent for a ton of damage out of nowhere. I am happy to find this video, I get to learn more about this powerfully mean dragon Edit: Inferno alone could destroy a entire economy with just the amount of gold he has.
For those wondering how insane Inferno would be in 5e. Just a rough conversion of a base Great Wyrm. CR 28, HP 714 (with average rolls honestly at this point I would do max HP for the creature 1020) Chance to hit +20, Breath Weapon 156 average damage. AC 23. Inferno would be a 42ish CR in 5e. So a +12 Prof, 1320 HP AC 30 is the best answer I can give you because he has a natural ac of 60 in 3.5 and a normal great wyrm has a 39. I would love an epic level book so that something like this is even an idea to fight.
The people of Faerune should be much for afraid of Inferno than Daurgothoth in my opinion. Daurgothoth seems perfect content to advance and study magic, and only occasionally does he become a threat. Inferno is a red dragon without the downsides of being a red dragon. No pride to wound or play into, no allies or weak points to strike. Very little paranoia, but retaining the cunning and stratigic mind. The only reason he has never been taken seriously is because of his hermit nature. But now, as the video states, he is finding entertainment in the outside world. Who knows when he'll finally decide to become more...hands on...
i am building a campaign right now that revolves around powerful dragons so these videos are extremely helpful and i would love to hear about any dragon like things that are really powerful as well :D
Thanks so very much once again dear Sir! Dragons, for me, are without a doubt the most incredible creatures in all of fantasy. To that end, I have built a pretty significant "hoard" of Dragon figures that I've been collecting for over 30 years ( if there's a significant Dragon carved in plastic, I own it. ) I'm once more cruising through your vids and since I consider you one of the most eminent scholars of D&D on the planet, I enjoy each and every vid you post both for entertainment and knowledge. With the far less than desired recent contributions by WOC, once again thank-you sincerely Sir, for keeping the true value of D&D in our hearts and minds! 🥰
I've been loving all the dragon lore though, with all the strong evil dragons we've seen recently it'd be cool to see a powerful metallic dragon like Nexus or something. Keep up the good work!
dont forget that he can 7 times a day choose to use wish to replicate ANY spell and not suffer the drawbacks of wish. so he could easily choose any radiant spell or otherwise to wipe out things that are resistant to fire.
The Bruce Lee of dragons. "I fear not the dragon that can do a thousand breaths weapons, but the dragon that has practiced his breath weapon a thousand times."
Would love to see a video covering Iron Dragons, more specifically the sovereign of ferrous dragons Gruaghlothor! If I remember correctly, some Iron Dragons can cast a ritual to be possessed by Gruaghlothor's power, but I know absolutely nothing else about him.
Inferno is the final form for any blaster caster. He is like the DM's amplified Uno Reverse card to "I didnt ask how big the room is, I said I cast Fireball". But as a legitimately dangerous villain.
I always bit my tongue but I have to say it now: It's really awesome that people like you make new modules and stories for us normies to enjoy! The only thing I don't get is why almost all of them start at level 1. Level 1 just sucks. Hands down. :D
I like that he will redirect adventurers to fight other evil forces. Presumably because he finds it funny? I'm also really looking forward to the Metallic dragon videos.
These Greatwyrm videos are giving me ideas for the Greatwyrms of my homebrew setting I'm reviving. Also the Alien Dragons from the latter Dragonlance books that Takesis recruited from other worlds to help her subjugate Krynn
Imagine being a dragon whose magic spells surpass that of everyone else's and you lose the ability to cast them because some cockroach. I would be mad.
I had Inferno be a central part of the campaign I'm running, but I gave him a twist because of two other rival dragons in my campaign. Instead of evil, he was actually able to resist Tiamat's influence from birth and, alongside a sorcerer like all dragons, a druid, a stars druid specifically, and in seclusion with his closed circle of star gazing druids they studied the cosmos atop the star mounts. His rival and ex homie Elaacrimalicros, in a long con to rob him and another dragon's immense hoards spread legends and rumors across the realms of his evil acts, sometimes even pretending to be him when raiding settlements. Inferno eventually died in a fight against another equally powerful gold dragon, but plots a return from beyond the grave.
Hello Rex! consider doing a video on the old white death, possibly the strongest white dragon. It's appereabce on Vengeance of the Iron Dwarf and Rise of the King are amazing.
I have a question. How much do dragons know about each other? Is the local ancient dragon known by others on the continent, or is it's info typically only known by others of comparable age/experience?
Dragons are typically in the "know" about what other dragons are doing, at least depending on their personality and if they are the same age definitely, younger dragons might not be quite as informed as older ones. Spoilers for Storm Kings Thunder here as an example Iymrith, the ancient blue dragon is behind the madness with the giants in the module and several other ancient dragons know her plan and actually can help the pcs, klauth and old gnawbone(ancient green dragon) both know what she's up to.
You know, rewatching this video gave me an idea, a red draconic sorceress or a dragon warlock from your book that wishes to serve Inferno and spread his name and infamy throughout not only the sword coast, but the whole a Faerun, not necessarily an evil character but just someone who wishes to learn from, at least in her mind, the mightiest red dragon in this side of Toril, thank you for the great lore content and making me into my true dragon nerd form that I always wished to be
Elven High Magic still uses the Weave thus yes she can block it, the reason its no blocked is because Elven High Magic is equivalent to Epic Magic which while counts as a 10th level spell is still vastly different than a 10th level spell slot, as it requires a vast amount of unique preparation to create much less cast and can be much more difficult to cast than any standard spell slot spell
Please do the Drow Dragons too, I have played around with them in my game as an underdog faction in a war against the normal Drow society, really like the concept!
This dragon is what I use as proof that my idea of someone accidentally getting a 12 wish spell in a spell gem that can handle such spells is possible because this bastard has access to 13th level spell slots. Admittedly, he can’t do them for anything but quicken spells but that still breaks the rules.
I'm currently using inferno in my Dnd game (not the original, more a homebrew version with that concept of alternate self from fizban's). So its nice to see this in case I want to add more stuff for him, and use it if he doesnt die by the end of the campaign
Could he potentially force or maybe entice elves to preform the rituals needed and somehow lend his spell slots? I'm sure he could torch all of them near instantly at the even slightest inclination of changing the spell he has them casting and could even "offer" them a spot in his newfound road to what I assume is mega-god-hood.
The theme that plays as you're talking about his horde is haunting... like a warning, yeah he has all this wealth but good luck getting anywhere near it.
Inferno is my favorite mtg card and dragon. Like building inferno for fun as a npc to convince my players in sertent directions. I give him the element adapt, slasher, crusher, pricier, tough, and durable Feats.
Rolled a pretty high initiative for this video. Best series on this channel. Still making the mistake of obnoxious ad frontloading. More people watch if it is shorter and either in the middle or at the end of the video.
kinda funny protection from energy only protects up to 120 dmg. so unless they had some cheap polymorphing stuff, the party would need energy immunity to prevent most of his breath attack. 3.5 stuff.
one of my favorite adventuring teams in fiction is essentially a high-risk-high-reward mining crew. basically their home town had a big monster problem to the point where the mining town decided to shut down it's mines for good, afterwards they found that compared to what they'd been doing for a living up 'till then tromping around in abandoned ruins or buried dungeons dealing with traps and predictable monsters as opposed to random cave ins caused by tunneling horrors and monsters attacking you with no warning from any angle at any time is both relatively safe and considerably more profitable. y'see: a silly "stories-for-brains" adventurer will delve into a dungeon battling beasts and traversing traps and trials in search of treasure to take, a practical "this-is-my-life" adventurer will go through a dungeon carefully identifying and solving problems as they go be they monster or malignant masonry and stealing anything and everything that isn't nailed down. these guys though? what they are here to steal *IS* the traps and the masonry and, yes, the nails...also monster parts if there's a market for them, preferably one that doesn't mind if they were killed by 50 tons of falling rocks...also the 50 tons of falling rocks.

@@bobbyrabii6119 The green overlord was Beryllinthranox.
@@bobbyrabii6119 Cyan controlled one of the dragon orbs, and destroyed the nation of the Silvanestri, which is probably why you associate him with Overlord status.
I think people hear "100 000 gold coins" and think "omg! That's a lot!" but if he's using it as a bed, that's like…1 to 3 layers of coins…he has a lot of surface area he'd need for a bed and coins are very small…
Metallic Dragons specially golden ones would also be quite interesting to learn about, enjoying these dragon videos alot!
Did you know, that inferno is actually a gold/red dragon crossbreed
I love how unique and genuinely interesting these dragon are.
Dungeons & DRAGONS indeed. :)
@Velociraptors of Skyrim
What website is it that your talking about
Dragon Tales, Dragon Tales
It's almost time for Dragon Tales
Come along, take my hand
Let's all go to Dragon Land
When a dragon is just literally "built different" from the others.
Inferno is just simply... built different
These stupidly powerful dragons are SO FUKING COOL
They are at a level of power that put them nearly on par with lesser gods, and yet you might actually meet them.
Even talk with them, having a pleasant conversation...all withouth knowing it.
Or knowing it and turning a lot of pants brown in the process.
fr the fact that they can take a human form and avoid magical detections is pretty scary
Immunity -> Resistance, Resistance -> Normal, Normal -> Vulnerability, Vulnerability -> Massive Damage Effect
I agree, even 11th level spells are well into god tier. I believe a 13th level spell was used to permanently affect the entirety of the magic underlying the universe according to canon.
@@Retaferyr No, that's _just a mere 12th level_ spell.
@aleph0540 my bad, how silly of me.
So glad to see another entry so soon! Love your work MrRhexx, keep it up!
I built a Commander Deck with Inferno as the Commander. It's fun to come out of nowhere and shoot your opponent for a ton of damage out of nowhere.
I am happy to find this video, I get to learn more about this powerfully mean dragon
Edit: Inferno alone could destroy a entire economy with just the amount of gold he has.
Dude I fucking love these named dragon videos, and the fantastic frequency is delightful
For people in Faerun both Inferno and Daurgothoth are pretty much never exist, not even as lore. Both did really good job at hiding their existence.
i am building a campaign right now that revolves around powerful dragons so these videos are extremely helpful and i would love to hear about any dragon like things that are really powerful as well :D
Thanks so very much once again dear Sir!
Dragons, for me, are without a doubt the most incredible creatures in all of fantasy. To that end, I have built a pretty significant "hoard" of Dragon figures that I've been collecting for over 30 years ( if there's a significant Dragon carved in plastic, I own it. )
I'm once more cruising through your vids and since I consider you one of the most eminent scholars of D&D on the planet, I enjoy each and every vid you post both for entertainment and knowledge.
Thank you for covering my favourite red dragon since 2010.
Keep up the great work both with your manuals and your videos
heh, a dragon with raw talent, honed to an absurd degree. Nothing flashy or Fancy just 'built different'
I can dig it.
dont forget that he can 7 times a day choose to use wish to replicate ANY spell and not suffer the drawbacks of wish. so he could easily choose any radiant spell or otherwise to wipe out things that are resistant to fire.
Excellent video! I say Inferno is my favorite dragon in faerun. And thanks to this video, I came to that conclusion.
Thank you!
Practicing magic or sleeping for decades at the time
Who knew a giant lizard of death could be so relatable

This feels like a proper legendary dragon with a lot of power. Got and easy to remember name too
Inferno just hit the fire element jackpot, he's that one friend with good upper body and punching genetics, except he's a boxer.
That’s a fitting name for a Red Dragon.
These videos on specific dragons have been great. I'm usually not a huge fan of dragons, but these guys are interesting.
That Sands of Doom promo was amazing.
Im loving this series so far
These Greatwyrm videos are giving me ideas for the Greatwyrms of my homebrew setting I'm reviving. Also the Alien Dragons from the latter Dragonlance books that Takesis recruited from other worlds to help her subjugate Krynn
I really hope you go over Asharladon! He got a game named after him even!
Loving these dragon videos!!
When your fire breath does 14d10 more than the regular Great Wyrm Red Dragon.
Congratulation on your achived kickstarter goal!
I can't believe you're not doing the patron thanks anymore, lol, that's always been such a consistent part of your videos.
Imagine being a dragon whose magic spells surpass that of everyone else's and you lose the ability to cast them because some cockroach. I would be mad.
who knows maybe the mfs training to throw hands with Mystra 💀
This series is pure fire !!
Who was that gold dragon that slew him? Is it homebrew or another named Gold dragon like Nexus or the Unseen Protector
@@tahmkench118 Homebrew one, named Saivarbaurean(I think, dragon names are clunky), known as Goldenburn in common or as Gendath in her humanoid form
I love this series. Thanks again.
Imagine if Daurgothoth and Inferno breed somehow, imagine what they could do combined
Hello Rex! consider doing a video on the old white death, possibly the strongest white dragon.
Spoilers for Storm Kings Thunder here as an example
Iymrith, the ancient blue dragon is behind the madness with the giants in the module and several other ancient dragons know her plan and actually can help the pcs, klauth and old gnawbone(ancient green dragon) both know what she's up to.
@@2g33ksgamingttv3 thanks, helps with context and my own world building
Sounds like a job for a party entirely composed of 20th level Forge Clerics.
I love this series. Can't wait for Nymmurh
I would love to hear about Balagos, Dragonsbane. We talk about him a few times at my table and your videos suck me in every time!
Been loving the stream of uploads. Just wanted to say I appreciate your work and have been watching since the Skyrim days. You're awesome 👍
MrRhexx subs been eating really well lately
Awesome work as allways
I love his personality the most. Even though he stands atop all true dragon's he's not as condescending or rude. In fact he's more whimsical and funny
Please do the Drow Dragons too, I have played around with them in my game as an underdog faction in a war against the normal Drow society, really like the concept!
DM: You have a breath weapon that will kill almost anyrhing!
Inferno: I don't care. I. Cast. Fireball.
Absolutely loving this series :)
Still holding out hope for Palarandusk!
You're in luck. He mentioned in a response to another comment that the next video is about Palarandusk (due on the 24th).
@@Krishnath.Dragon Excellent! I'm holding out for lots of lore I can use for an adventure using Palarandusk as patron.
@@Krishnath.Dragon
Nice. Palarandusk is probably my favourite named Gold dragon
Always love MrRhexx video, but the Dragon series is my favorite
I can't believe Inferno is LITTERALLY just built different.
The theme that plays as you're talking about his horde is haunting... like a warning, yeah he has all this wealth but good luck getting anywhere near it.
Not going to lie here, mate. The trailer was awesome!
You’re great, I love your dragon videos, please keep making your videos.
watched this again. keep up the good work MrRhexx
Inferno is my favorite mtg card and dragon. Like building inferno for fun as a npc to convince my players in sertent directions. I give him the element adapt, slasher, crusher, pricier, tough, and durable Feats.
I find all these videos super fun thanks.

Thanks for the video and I hope your Kickstarter goes excelent! ^^
