That being said, engineering coop for civil is pretty good from what I've heard from my civil friends. However, if you're goal is to work for tech companies like Apple, Tesla, etc. then civil won't help much with that.

    It depends on the company. I have 5 years experience and I own very complex machines. Automatic systems with more than 100 cylinders , more than 200 sensors, conveyors, robots, servo motors and so one. I should organize what should we order first due delivery dates. Then I should organize the meetings with the suppliers. Simultaneously, I should prioritize design task in order to start as fast as possible, giving work to the assemblers and manufacturers. When my system is defined I should talk with the electrical and software departments. When all my team is working, I can focus on the new assemblies. But then the telephone starts ringing all day! the purchasing department colleges come to me, the assemblers have found some collisions the manufacturers have incomplete drawings, the software department have an easy solution to use less sensors, the suppliers have changed the delivery date, the customer wish some changes in his products, other customers call due already delivered machine bugs or collisions and then it's friday and you want to die. Enjoy your engineering career guys! We are sharks!

    • @chocolateearrings
      @chocolateearrings 2 года назад +2

      I can answer this. This depends on the industry. In tech industry, with a MS you go to Engineer immediately. With PhD you start upper level Engineer or lower level Senior engineer. 3years of your PhD is counted as experience. Getting an advance degree also affects your pay or your ability to negotiate higher pay. I am a MS holder electrical engineer (E4 hardware engineer)

    • @chocolateearrings
      @chocolateearrings 2 года назад

      @@nasim3269 Where are you located? It really depends on the industry you're in. Some industries value higher degrees. Getting a master's as a junior engineer may help you high pay but experience is more important within the same company. You can transfer to companies that value advanced degrees, there you can get higher pay or move up fast. Remember, with higher title comes higher responsiblity.

    • @chocolateearrings
      @chocolateearrings 2 года назад +1

      @@nasim3269 It depends on what you goals are. I am assuming you're in the United States and UM=Univeristy of Michigan, great school by the way. (A) If it is a short term goal of higher pay, don't get MS immediately. Ask for a promotion after 1.5yr experience in the company or Interview at other companies and negotiate your salary (B) If your goal is long-term, get the company to sponsor your MS degree. Find out what that would take for them. Find out if there's a contract to remain with company if/after they sponsor your education. Find out what the max cost coverage per year is. Some companies only grant $10k for classes a year. It could take you 4years to complete a 2 yr program if you work/school but it will be FREE. But during this time you'll gain experience, promotion and money. If you don't want that then, be prepared to pay tuition at university because not all Graduate programs are funded or free for students.

      It's definitely one of the highest-paying areas for engineers. Although, the cost of living can be pretty expensive here. You can offset it by living with roommates and doing a ton of apartment hunting before signing a lease somewhere. That way, you'll find good deals. Other than that, life in the bay area is nice. The weather is great and the scenery is quite beautiful...especially the beaches and the mountains. So def recommend at least interning here so you can see for yourself.

    I don’t think this video offers the insight into the progression structure you say it does. There are many routes into engineering and work differently in the world.
    I for one am from the UK and was apprenticed trained engineer which is 4 year time-served training = 6 months learning basics in a workshop; 1 year learning rotation around various roles (machining, assembly, grinding etc) with an engineering company; then 2.5 years specialising in my role - mechanical design. Through the apprentice role you also attend 1 day week college for a vocational qualification.
    I currently studying phd in medical engineering but I did my engineering degree part time (took 5 years, which my employer paid for) whilst working as a design engineer and my masters degree full time. Btw you haven’t explained the difference between technician and engineers. I would also argue if you have no shop-floor experience then I doubt you actual ability as an engineer.
    Also a note is that senior engineer is above lead engineer. I worked as a lead design engineer and would train junior/graduate design engineers (who can either be at apprentice level or fresh graduates. It’s extremely rare for them to be “interns”. )
    My advice to fresh graduate engineers ignore any internship get some practical experience and apply for graduate engineering roles. Or better yet get an apprenticeship into engineering, companies generally favour engineers they build up from the bottom.
