I got so many rejections that I got so used to it. Was like oh look "another one" and became the norm. Over 3-4 years I must have filled out and sent at least 1000 applications. 50 plus a day and its now my most hated process to go through, the tediousness, repetitiveness, mundane process of filling those things out. Answering the same questions over and over I hate it so much. So when an actual offer came through it was like is this for real. lol
I subscribed a few weeks ago after randomly looking up "engineering" on RUclips. I have nothing to do with engineering. I'm a nurse. But one of the MANY things that keeps me coming back to this channel is how REAL you are. Everything about your channel is very honest and open. I can always respect youtubers like that... Especially since there aren't a lot of RUclipsrs like that.
Man I really wished I had this video when I was still an undergrad. Instead of just studying theoretical concepts just to pass my exams, I would've done my own projects as well as sharpened my technical skills. I also would've done the course projects assigned by my professors more seriously so that I have something that I can show and explain well to the employers. Engineering portfolios should definitely be in the mind of an engineering student starting 1st year so that they could be motivated to work on more projects alongside their academics. Aside from resumes, portfolios should definitely be a staple to any engineering student.
Your videos put everything into perspective. The work doesn't stop after getting my degree, and I feel a lot better knowing what lies ahead. Thank you so much! I appreciate your work.
@@Dariusissocool you should view it like this: You not REALLY wanting the job was probably the reason you didn't get it. If it would've been a better fit they'd chosen you. People can see how much you want something. Imo they also see if you wrote like a handful applications to the jobs you actually wanted or applied 1000 times. If your mindset is not fully on getting a specific job, someone elses probably will be and he will be suited better.
Hey Tamer, Great video!!! I'm interested to know how engineering students can start projects for portfolios and balance project works with school work. Also, what can students do to start independent projects? Keep up the great work.
Try to work on ur project work on weekends or holiday breaks when school is a little less intense. In terms of project ideas, just google “engineering projects” and u’ll find a lot online that can inspire you.
Those job interviews that you thought you aced fall through. The one great company that you applied to thinking that you'd never hear from calls you in for an interview. You interview poorly but receive a job offer anyway. This is the nature of the beast, it's always pretty much hit or miss.
There's no way he had to go through 1000 rejections after studying 8 hour a day as an honor student who spent +$80000 on college ND went though countless stressful exams right? Otherwise college is a joke XD.
I would like to know what makes you choose to apply to a certain job, especially at the beginning when you barely have any experience and you don’t know which Industry you want to work in yet.
In terms of job title and industry, I just chose whatever I thought would be cool. For example, I think car, planes and robots are dope, so I apply to jobs in those industries. If u have no idea what u like, then start trying things until u figure it out.
Guys I have a question! I am in my first year of engineering, and I am not doing projects, I am taking 6 courses per semester. How do people do projects? Do they buy their own materials? Are these projects 3d printed or are they just done on autocad or solidworks or something like that? For cs and ce students its a bit understandable because they can code projects and post it on their github, but as for someone who is in aerospace or mechanical, how do these projects work? Maybe Tamer can make a video about that
You make really valid points and it’s definitely harder for MEs and EEs to work on projects compare to software students. One thing u can do is use CAD software to create what u want (which is basically free). To fabricate it, most universities offer 3D printing that’s pretty cheap. Also, I should consider hiring student design teams or engineering clubs at ur school. That would be ur best bet imo. Also, if u have a heavy course load, u can spend maybe once a week or once every two weeks working on them, so u still have time for school.
Hi Tamer, When do you usually apply for summer internships? You said you applied for over 500 summer internships over the span of 4 months. What are those 4 months?
I am having problem with getting feedback from interviews. I land a lot of them but they go radio silence with make me feel I have lost a lot of time without getting anything. anybody here has any tip for that ?
I spent 8 years studying computer engineering since I came from different country and different language.after all those hard days i just recently graduated and i was so happy because I was thinking finally i will start working then shocked by getting rejected from all the jobs that i was applying for. I am still looking for a job. I applied for too much . Same things rejected. I am really so depressed, I am even thinking to go back again to school and start studying nursing program, at least I will be sure I can find a job.
Another big tip is not to be afraid to lie. Make sure you have a story for every type of question and if you down make one up. Craft yourself into the perfect candidate and fabricate as much as you can get away with
Hey Is it true that CE is more electrical than programming because I love programming more but I want to do CE because I not only want to program but I want to be able to take the computer apart and fix devices
CE is usually more electrical than programming . But you can always learn more programming on your own so CE might be your best choice if u wanna learn both.
Yeah. CE is more hardware than software. I'd advise you to maybe take Udemy courses on the software side. I'm doing CE by the way, but in my first year.
It's easier for an electronic engineer to pick up programming than for a software engineer to understand electronic circuits. My experience has been that there are a dozen software engineers for every hardware engineer. Fair enough, one computer can run a hundred different programs. Just make sure you take some software classes to get started. Ironically, most programmable logic design is done with VHDL, Verilog or equivalent, which is software. The latest, greatest software language comes out every year. Not so much for hardware languages. Domain knowledge is very desirable for software engineers. That means understanding accounting if you are writing accounting software, servos if you are writing robotic software or digital design if you are writing embedded control software. The domain for most internet related software is software. No extra work there. In order to "fix" computers you need to be able to read hardware data sheets for microprocessors, DRAMs and interfaces (e.g. USB).

Fifty + years ago we'd send out five resumes and then get four interviews at the companies' facilities. The result would be three or four offers.
