Was wondering ka naeza tumia warm water other than hot...is there a specific reason you are using hot water??

The hot water aids denaturise the gluten in flour helping in softeness of dough and give the chapati its puff.
I usually add just enough to wet the dough to prevent from cracking off when pulling dough to check softness when dough is mixed.
Salt does aid absorption during mixing & retention of water if left for a few days
