Hiking The Ireland Way with The Hiking Rev, Stage 4 - Ballyhoura Way, St John’s Bridge to Tipperary

- Leaving St. John's Bridge I entered the village of Liscarroll where I encountered the ruins of a 13th Century Anglo-Norman Castle. After Liscarroll, I went through the towns of Churchtown, Ballyhea, Ballyorgan, and spent the night at the Woodview B&B in Kilfinane.
In Galbally, located at the foot of the Galtee Mountains, I came upon the ruins of the MOOR ABBEY, founded between 1204 and 1212 and took three hundred years to complete.
While climbing Silevenamuck, I was treated to the beautiful views of the GLEN OF AHERLOW and the GALTEE MOUNTAINS. After a few kilometers, I entered the town of Tipperary where I stayed at the Central House B&B, took my FIRST ZERO in almost 260 km, and concluded the fourth stage of the Ireland Way, the Ballyhoura Way.

Enjoying your trek and videos very much. Your videos exude warmth and kindness which is so nice to see these days. Thank you for taking us along. After teaching school 35 years, I am hiking most days. Although it is only day hikes, I love it.
Hey Gary. I have the greatest admiration for teachers. You deserve to get out and enjoy nature. 😁
As always, Rev, thank you so much for taking us along on your hiking adventures. You inspire so many!
Thank you Don. I’m glad you’re enjoying the journey.😁
The ruins of the castle and abbey are beautiful and sad at the same time. Buildings that have stood for centuries, craftsmanship that has been essentially lost in these current times, left to rot and decay. It's like watching history crumble to dust. But enough with the maudlin stuff. I've said it every time I comment, but Ireland is just so, so beautiful, made even more so by the people living life there. Thanks for taking me along with you. Happy trekking! 🥾
One of the many reasons that I wanted to do a thruhike there this year. 😁
You make a great point but ruins of Abbeys and castles number in the tens of thousands in Ireland, in fact there are so many we don't even have an actual number. There wouldn't be enough money in the Irish budget to save them all.
Another great vlog, Rev. You are truly of the type of people you have met along the trail. Wishing you continued Happy Trails!
Thank you John.😁
Hi from Australia , have done a bit of hiking in the past , and have just started in earnest at age 58, love your channel , inspiring , thoughtful and easy to watch👏👏👏
Thanks Phil. I’m glad you enjoy it. 😁
That was gorgeous...the drone footage, the video, just everything was great. I just knew I would never see Ireland but I AM seeing it!! So glad I found your channel! Thanks!
Thanks. I’m glad that you’re able to come along with me.😁
And now I've got that song stuck in my head 🎶 🎵 😂
Try listening to it 100 times while you’re editing the video? I go to sleep at night with it running through my head.😂
@@TheHikingRev 🤣
Lovely video, can’t get over all their old castles. Their just sitting there in the middle of all their new architecture. Such an old country compared to America.
Thanks. You could almost sense the spirits of my ancestors as I visited the castle and that Abby. 😁
@@TheHikingRev I’ll bet… it’s in your blood and ancestry! It’s like you went to hike but kind of found “your people”!
Enjoying this stage and the beautiful scenery. The British isles are incredibly beautiful and so are rhe people. I really like the public footpath system as well. Blessings on the rest of your journey!🙏
Thank you Ruth. The British Isles and Scotland are on my thruhiking bucket list.😁
@@TheHikingRev Mine too!
Great series, Rev. Enjoying your travels and the beauty of Ireland and its gracious people.
Thank you Anthony. I’m glad you’re enjoying the journey. 😁
Your videos never dissapoint Rev, keep em coming and take care
Thanks Derek. I’ll try.😁
It looks like the trip of a lifetime! Ireland is a lovely country and I can only imagine how much more beautiful it is when you slow down and hike it, rather than drive.
Hey Charles. You do get a different perspective when you hike as opposed to drive. 😁
Hey Thanks again loved it big guy
Thanks Bill. I’m glad you liked it.😁
What a beautiful places and a nice music Mr.Rev ❤
Thanks Adam. It is a very beautiful country.😁
I have been to Ireland many times yes it’s my ancestors that call me home but I love the people and the country
Yes, Kim. This world could use more Irish hospitality.😁
Looking good.
Thanks. 😁
Enjoying your hike of the Ireland Way. As has been the case with the 3 other stages, have seen beautiful scenery. Am enjoying the drone views. Glad you're enjoying the Irish Sunshine, even the liquid version. Thanks for taking us along. Take care, Rev and stay safe.
Thank you Judith. If it wasn’t for the “Irish Sunshine,” there wouldn’t be the Irish beauty. 😁
Excellent camera work and commentary Rev. Thanks for sharing this.
You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoy it.😁
Great video Rev! Thanks for sharing. Keep on going, looking forward to the next episode.
Henk ( from Holland)
Thanks Henk. I hope you enjoy it. 😁
Enjoy walking with you - TU! Owaord!
Thanks. I’m glad you’re enjoying the journey. 😁
Rev, I love the drone shots! Nice addition to your already great videos! Stay safe my friend…
Thanks Jim. It takes a little extra time to set up and fly the drone. But the shots definitely are worth it.😁
Hi Rev i’m certainly enjoying your hike through Ireland. The countryside is similar to parts of New Zealand. My wife and I have visited Ireland twice and always loved it.
Hey Richard. I’m glad you’re enjoying the journey. 😁
Hi Rev. It sure is a beautiful country. Yep, it's getting plenty rain there. Enjoy your zero and get some well deserved rest.
Thanks Theresa. I will. 😁
Great video, great people! Time to win lotto, then I can hike for the rest of my life. I don't need fancy cars, a big house ect. Just time to hike. I am also saving to retire. This will take longer but will be worth it. Take care.
Thanks Jorge. “Don’t stop believin’” 😁
You are a very kind and generous hiker to watch! Thank you so much for all the extra++ footsteps you take to make the vlog so wonderful! How many stages do you have to do to complete this hike? Take care 🙂
Thank you very much. I figured one time that I do the trail three times by filming and coming back for the camera. 😂 But as long as you enjoy it, I’ll keep doing it.
Roll Tide! I live in your home State. Love your videos.
Roll Tide! Thanks. I’m glad you enjoy them. 😁
hey rev just got my new pc so glad to see you be well be blessed epic hike thanks
Hey Robert. Hope the videos looks good on your new PC. 😁
Great video Rev. Shame about the Donkeys. My partner and I visited in May this year. Beautiful walk around the sanctuary. They do such good work.
Thanks. Yeah, I wished I could’ve seen the donkeys. I understand that it’s a great place to visit.😁
Love these, Rev! I think I'll go to Ireland. :>)
Go for it Peter. You’ll enjoy it. 😁
Great video 👍
Thanks. 😁
Forced to sleep in...that sounds like a perk:)
Hey Charlie. Not when you’ve got to make miles. 😁
Ireland is such a pretty country. I might get there one day. The closest I’ve come was Scotland. Have I mentioned how much I am enjoying this series, I’d follow you anywhere (on RUclips😊)
Thanks Mary. I’m glad you’re enjoying the journey. 😁
My wife and I have made three trips to Ireland North & South and one of the reasons for coming back is the amazing friendliness and hospitality of the people of Ireland. They have always treated us with such openness and hospitality unlike any other country we have visited. By the way let me recommend a church. The Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle in Belfast. We always worship there when we visit Belfast a real bible believing church.
Thanks. I’ll look into it. 😁
Great video! You carrying a drone in the backpack of yours now??? :) Roll Tide! I think every game this year is going to be exciting!
Thanks James. Yeah I thought I’d take some drone shots while I’m hiking.😁
I noticed already in a previous clip: You got a drone! How cool is this?
Hey Daniel. Yeah I thought I would use it on this trip. Glad I brought it. 😁
Im a little disappointed that you didnt sing "its a long way to Tipperary ". Oh well, maybe next time. 🤣 But, truly this is a spectacular hike. Well done.
Thanks Shirley. I didn’t have any request so I didn’t think anybody wanted to hear me.😂
🤣
Have you found Brigadoon? Love the vids, love the commentary. Thanks for the efforts.
No, not yet.😁
Loved this section! I must say, it looks so clean there! No litter or graffiti like here. Loved the aerial footage- did you take a drone? Was it expensive staying at the B&B’s?
Hey Rebecca. Yes, it’s very clean here.
I did take my drone. It does take some time to set it up and fly it when I should be hiking.
It’s not real expensive, but it’s not cheap. 😁
Are you carrying a drone?! Lovely footage and music.
Thanks Karen. Yes. It takes time to set up and fly but the aerial shorts are worth it. 😁
Another great video, really enjoying your journey. I noticed you are using the Durston X-mid tent on this hike, how do you like it so far?
Hey Andy. Thanks. Yes, I’m loving the X-Mid Pro 1. I love my Plex Solo but the X-Mid clicks all the boxes. 😁
Surprised to see palm trees in Ireland…
There’s not very many but they’re there. 😁
How many km per day would you walk?
About 32 km but it varies greatly on this trail. 😁
@@TheHikingRev on Friday, I hiked 30km from my town to the next town.
@@Adayinthelifeof-AG Good for you!
