    Hi Don, oh my Gosh!! I literally tried it and you won’t believe IT WORKED. I set up the bucket with the ramp on my deck and I’m sitting outside my house working and I literally sat here and watch the show go down because there was some of the sunflower seeds just right by the bucket and he ate and ate and the next thing I know I’m sitting here looking at the chipmunk go up the ramp and he didn’t even think twice he jumped right in the bucket I never seen anything like it thank you.

    I catch two or three a day with a live trap,then I let them out for my dog to catch(he loves to catch them).My secret is bait with peanut butter and put a piece of plywood over the trap to disguise it.I caught 25 in two weeks!

    Nice. I think I might try this method. I am sick and tired of the squirrels and chipmunks around my yard. Thanks for the to the point explanation and showing the results.

    No shit I caught one in two separate traps within 30 minutes of putting them out. Genius.
    Note that I smeared peanut butter along the ramp and at the top of it.
    I watched one of them dive right into the water with no hesitation.

    Well did you cover the whole surface of the water in the bucket? And did you place the bucket where you see them? Might want to put dabs of peanut butter on the board and put some seeds in the peanut butter. Bucket only needs to be half full. My neighbors and a couple friends have used this technique and have taken many with it.

    This has been very helpful thank you. One question, after a week or so the seeds/water start to smell bad. Will the trap be less effective ? Should the seeds be tossed out at that point?

    Chipmunks will do extensive damage to your car also. We had over $2,000.00 in damages because they like to eat wiring harnesses. Our deductible covered it thank goodness, still it cost us money. Thanks and Many Kudos Don!

    Snap traps are working for me. I’ll wire a peanut to the lever or use chunky peanut butter. I have 2 snap traps. Got about 12-14 this year. I’ll try the bucket next.

    I was an unbeliever and then today….. it worked!!! I actually saw the vermin work his way up the ramp and jump in. He stood at the top looking…looking…looking…and then… jumped. Not very good swimmers.

    I’m having chipmunks eat bait at top of the 2x4 but they aren’t jumping in bucket. I’ve tried bucket 1/4 full and 3/4 full.

    If a squirrel gets in the bucket won't they nock it over to make it easier to get to the seeds?

  • @how3fish
    @how3fish 3 месяца назад

    The only problem I have with this is that , the squirrels ate all the sunflower seeds !

    • @donfarmer4020
      @donfarmer4020  3 месяца назад +3

      If you fill the bucket with to much water the seeds are easily eaten fill the bucket only about 6 to 7 inches deep.

      When the water starts to smell. If you are catching chipmunks every couple days.

    I tried mine and got 5 the first time. I set the bucket up again but this time something moved the 6x1 wooden ramp off the bucket lip. The first time it fell I thought the wind but he happened for the 4th time today. I did get one today but have these chipmunks banned together and move the ramp? I’m being serious. Thanks

    Not sure why this still does not work with squirrels, too, even after he briefly said why.

    • @donfarmer4020
      @donfarmer4020  11 месяцев назад +1

      The only reason I can think of is the squirrels are two big for the bucket. All I know is I haven’t caught any squirrels and I have seen them hang on the edge and eat out of the bucket. So maybe if you had a bigger bucket if they fell in they couldn’t get out? Not sure but I know one fell in but was able to get out.

      @@donfarmer4020 Thanks for your reply, Don. Yes, squirrels DO have GREAT jumping abilities to get out of five-gallon buckets like what you have and no doubt that they can eat your seeds without falling in the water. And if they do fall, then they should be able to jump out with their jumping abilities. But not all of the time. I had a five-gallon bucket filled with just a little bit of water and while I was on vacation, an adult squirrel got into the bucket but could not jump out and drowned. Thank God I got home the following day and found this victim, though I also found some scat under the sheets of my bed. I guess the critter had one good night's rest before dying the following day and that is why there was no smell in the house. Squirrels are incredibly smart creatures but also VERY destructive in many ways. One time, they got behind some walls in my house and I had to cut out the drywall to rescue them to be released away from my home. I now am stuck with several hundred dollars of repairs. (My handyman thinks they got into the wall through some roof vents since I have a flat roof.) I also NEVER handle them since they get VERY aggressive when cornered. I have a special metal pick up tool that i use for that job. Anyhow, your video was great and thanks for sharing! (I guess you have no snakes in your area to get the chipmunks and mice?)

    Live traps didn’t work for me. I caught one with the Chipmunkinator, but the rest seemed to have figured out how to go in, get the sunflower seeds, and get out of it.
