I am going to fill the bucket with water and seeds right NOW! They have completely destroyed my garden- holes and tunnels all over and they ate the seedlings of tomatoes, peas and other veggies. War has begun...

I’m sorry, fid not mean to offend, but sometimes people become desperate to solve this issue. I truly have experienced live capture and release, but they are outside their home area and become food for other animals, or cause damage to other animals (I can give you names of Amish friends whose horse broke an ankle and had to be put down because of chipmunks!

I'm at the point of desperation! For 2 years I've had a chipmunk hoarding birdseed from my neighbor and then bringing it into my house. I hear it in my walls and ceilings. I have to remove one ceiling because it's loaded with birdseed above the tile and I've tried a live trap with bait to no avail I'll be trying these things next. Appreciate the video Rick.

I'm all for trying to keeping living creatures alive but when it comes to destroying & leaving deep holes everywhere around my foundation & yard, it's time to take action. I feel bad but got 8 in 2 days with the bucket method, they're cute but they are rodents! I may get a couple of these, small ones work great for mice.

  • @middletonlyn6856
    @middletonlyn6856 4 года назад +12

At first I thought they were so cute but changed my mind after they did hundreds of $s to our gardens, landscape and started on our basement walls. Someone in the neighborhood provides nuts for them and then they dig up our flower beds to bury them. So much damage, and then I tried the bucket, caught six in the first hour and felt so bad to see them struggling in the water. Never used it again. Now I prefer the trap as it kills them instantly. I understand they are carriers of lice and ticks and also lyme disease and that's good enough reason not to have them around your home and kids.

I had a new driveway installed last fall. I now have a spot where chipmunks tunneled under the driveway and caused it to collapse. I've used the snap traps next to the holes without bait but find they get caught by the leg as they run by. Using bait they have to stick their head far enough in to get a quick kill.

Sometimes when they are in open spaces you may have to resort in the live trap (Hav-A-hart). I know one trap will not do it all, but that “better rodent trap” does do well around home foundations! Happy hunting!

Thanks for trusting me, Mike! I know the traps don’t always work in wide open places (use Hav-A-Heart live traps then), but I have had great luck with them. They are cute, but do a ton of damage to landscaping (eat spring bulbs) and will ruin foundations and cause basements to leak!

How did you end up getting rid of them? We live in a wooded community with predator wildlife. Under normal circumstances I love all creatures but my husband saw a couple of them playing in the yard then all of a sudden a large hawk swooped down about 15ft from him on the porch and carried one away. I actually smiled with glee and wish I had seen it. They might be cute but they’re no friend of homeowners.

They havent't worked without a dab of peanut butter, but with it they're effective. They (Jawz) easily release the way shown here although they're a touch harder to reset. @RickWolf  4 года назад +2

I would bet it is chipmunk! In the spring or summer, use the trap idea in the video. If you don't have a lot of pets or neighborhood animals you could try a few poison peanuts (rat poison) placed inside the hole. let me back up---chipmonks like to set up near wood piles, foundations, elevated landscape areas. Their holes don't have a lot of waist materials around them---the other animal I know that is similar is "snakes"---have you seen any? So if poison isn't to your liking try the chipmunk trap this Spring! Thanks for viewing my videos!

My husband and I feed ours. Every evening we sit out on our deck and watch them eat. It's pure entertainment. We just moved onto 6 acres from the city.

Lots of people like the chipmunks, and they are cute & fun to watch, but I do have a tip if the only bother is that they eat your spring or fall bulbs!! This goes for squirrels too, put 1” chicken netting over the top of areas you have planted bulbs in. They hit the netting and it inhibits them (chipmunks can sometimes dig thru it😩) from eating & digging thru your pretty bulbs!

Cats should not be allowed outside. They kill indiscriminately. They kill beneficial animals and song birds, etc. Sure, they probably also help with rodents, which is good, but they also kill anything they can instinctively; they don't only target animals that we humans deem as pests. Keep your cats indoors, people, please!!!

Unless you starve a cat, it won't catch anything but your songbirds, and dig and crap in your mulch beds.

Then don't. Simple! I will though. They are VERY destructive animals and cause a LOT of damage to properties and crops.

Make sure you buy the "Better RODENT trap" not the "Better MOUSE trap". I remember I put a plastic mouse trap to catch the chipmunk ( the "catch and release" type)- it got out in no time, just chewed the plastic. They have much stronger teeth than mice. Hope it helps.

@@sunitamay123 For the chipmunks I used HavAHart trap. It’s all metal and unable to escape.

I have used this trap and found it to be very effective. I also learned that chipmunks, properly prepared are really tasty, skinned and deep fried.
