I took the train from this station in 1956 to go to my first job at The Department of Agriculture in Merrion Street, Dublin where the department was then located.. There were a lot of comings and goings, sad partings and joyful reunions at this station. Many memories.

I actually travelled on this railway line from Claremorris to Collooney (the 'Burma Road') and on to Sligo in 1975. This was on a special steam train from Dublin. The tour was organised by the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland. I was much saddened to learn a few months later that this scenic railway line had been closed.
I am delighted that nearly 50 years on a part of the 'Burma Road' has now been repurposed in this way.

The reopening of the Western Rail Corridor should be done in phases. Cutting down on Pollution, Car Accidents, Road Deaths & Traffic Jams.

Total exclusion for the people of the area who would prefer a green way ,, benefiting a private enterprise . The people of kiltinagh do not benefit

I was wondering if the proceeds benefited Kiltimagh or Co Mayo. Only indirectly apparently. Does the private company lease the rail from the county?
