Excellent video. Too many people visiting Ireland trying to pack too much into their short stay . They miss so much by just trying to visit the main attractions . I am too old for tents ,my way on each visit , I've been over in excess of twenty times , is to rent a cottage and use it as my base . My main area is around Doolin and do car trips out every day and exploring as you have off the beaten tracks and then into the pubs in the night for music ,people and the pints . It is all about slowing down when you are there to take your time on the many empty beaches .
This is where my dads father was born and immigrated from in the 40s I will make it there one day hopefully with my dad. My dad was born and raised in Baja California another coast line, crazy how things can play out.
Great video. My Grandad was from Foxford in Mayo. Visited Westport myself almost a decade ago. Lovely Guinness. Keep up the good work guys. Best suitcase advertisement I have seen.
We hope we did the beautiful county of Mayo justice in this video, it really is spectacular! Where else should we visit along the Wild Atlantic Way? ☺️💚🇮🇪
Nice video. As a Mayo man, I would recommend the Quay area of Westport, beside Westport house, which has some lovely restaurants and a nice view over Clew Bay. Over in neighbouring Castlebar, John McHale’s pub does the best pint of Guinness I ever did taste, as well as being home to Lord Lucan’s ancestral estate and the excellent National Museum of Country Life. Ballina’s ridge pool is also home to some of the best salmon fishing one can get, as was attested to by the late Jack Charlton. I believe that Inishturk and Clare Island are also ramping up their tourist potential these days, with more ferry crossings and accommodation available during the summer months.
@TheLastAngryMan01 Fantastic! We hope people that enjoyed the video also read your comments & make a note of your recommendations … It’s difficult to make a video about a location like Mayo without missing out on so many other interesting places. Comments like these really help 👍🏻 Take care! ☘️
Spent a weekend in Achill in June. Glorious Sun. We drove our camper which is great but way slower than a car. 6 hours drive but worth it all. Keen and Keem beaches were beautiful but as we traveled the island the scenery just got better and better. Came home through Westport on by Croagh Patrick then on to Doo-lough valley. The most beautiful place with a very sad ( famine ) story. An Gorta Mor. I hate calling it a famine. / then on to Ashleigh Falls, water was very low at the falls. Had food in Leenane ( where the film , the Field was set ) I love it there. On to Galway Usually stop at Cong ( where the Quiet Man was filmed ) and drive around lough Mask and head back by lough Corib but so much driving ahead we came direct home. Next two trips were to Kerry , Dingle , stayed at Dunmore Head on the Slea Head drive on Dingle Peninsula . Don't miss the Conor Pass if weather is good. All right, Safe Driving and enjoy ~Sean
Maigh Eo is the greatest place, it’s where my mothers from. There is so much to see and do. I’ve been going to Westport since I was a small boy and it’s always brilliant.
Love that you provide so many fun-facts in the video like the WAW and the EIRE signs purpose for ww2, didn't know either since living here 17 years! Achill is my favourite spot in Ireland.
Amazing to see Rinroe beach and Ceathru Thaidgh , many a summer spent there as the mother was born there and still have family there, sure at 6:09 you can see the house on the hill in the background. Most beautiful spot. I hope ye popped into Garvins before yous left 👍
I'm Irish from Dublin Irish culture is unique but still amazing lots of wee little waterfall and big ones that are beautiful and many more beautiful things ❤️🇮🇪
Great video guys. I've a wedding in Mayo later this year so I'll definitely be adding some of your suggestions to the itinerary. Also, great Barry Keoghan impression Mark! 😅
If Shannon Airport is an option from where ever you are coming from into Ireland, I'd take that option over Dublin Airport. Dublin Airport is a nightmare, from delays, to cancellations and just packed with people so tightly, long queues for security that move very slowly and a lot of baggage lost. Shannon is pure chill usually.
Knock is especialy great if you want to start in Mayo. I remember when the priest had a dream and started prparing the land befor the development was even oked by council. HA. Showing my age. We were so excited because it is only 30 min to Grans house. Back in the day long before you were even a thought, the roads were not what they are now. We had a 5hr drive from St. Louis to Chicago to catch a direct flt to Ireland. Either Shannon or Dublin. Then the 8 hr flt. to either. Then the four of us would load into my Uncles car with him. Sometimes he would bring one of my younger cousins for company during their 5hr car ride to the airport. We would cram (3 adults, 3kids and a bunch of lugage) into what was usually a older Hunter something or a Cortina. Mind you we were staying for the whole summer. Uncle Martin always brought enough rope. Lugage for 4 people for a six week stay. It was in the boot, and on top of the roof all roped down with the rope going through the windows. We took many clothes due to Gran not haveing washer/dryer or even plumbing. So then another 5hr drive up to Mayo. I was the smallest so I would always be in the front with my Dad and Uncle. Sitting a little on both seats and stradling the gear shift. We would load up the laundry drive into Ballina to the laundry mat. We would always get stares because it was usually a long process and stealing a machine as offten as we could when a person was finished and also trying to be polite to the other people doing laundry. My Sister and I would be yanking out the somewhat dry clothes to make room for more wet ones so all the machines werent taken. To say the least we would get not so friendly looks. @@SomethingToRemember
If you make your way to Clare, definitely go to the Bridges of Ross. My favourite place in the country. Absolutely wild and you can get right up to the ocean

I’d say you’ll see some slight differences between the Mayo coast & the Californian coast 😅 Hope you make it over some day!

If you’re flush, Cong in South Mayo offers the site of John Wayne’s The Quiet Man film, as well as the beautiful Ashford Castle luxury hotel.

Kink Charles and Queen Camilla also love Doolough. They have been regular visitors to the Lodge for years. A place made infamous
during the Gorta Mór.

What time of year did you guys film this? I’m planning a trip from Australia and am still figuring out the best time of year to travel :)
In the middle of August! But the best time to travel is probably May or the beginning September 😊

Hey donegal how about the donegal slang wild.
Wild handlin’ trying to explain that one 😁

Better still flight into knock Airport and avoid Dublin completely
Definitely, if it’s an option! 😅
I'm surprised that in exploring Irish culture, no mention is made of the church and it's influence in shaping both culture and landscape.
