  • In May 2024, my wife and I took a 1900 mile round trip to Ireland and down part of the Wild Atlantic Way on our motorbikes. It's the first time we've ever visited the Emerald Isle, and was a bit of a whistle stop tour as we only had 8 nights there. It's Sue's second long tour as she has only been riding for a year.
This video is the first episode in a short series of how we got on. Hope you enjoy it!

@@GreyBiker99 I don't think the road in the Glenniff horseshoe ever had grass growing through except for the end towards sligo .RTE irelands national broadcaster has a transmitter on one of the mountains and therefore they need access at least to the pont of the big mountain slieve more because there land is just short of that mountain.

@@Joseph13163 Maybe I'm getting it confused with somewhere else then, as I watches an awful lot of videos. The road surface was a lot better than I was expecting though.

We were very lucky indeed with the weather. We had a bit of a damp start in the next episode, but after that we managed to stay dry, which was a huge surprise 😂. I hope the weather gods smile on you and your son, as it really is quite stunning the further south you get.

I’m from Larne the ferry port that you arrived at in Northen Ireland.
If you had after the first half mile turned off the duel carriage way into Larne town it goes to a roundabout that takes you onto the A2 Coast Road which is regulars as one of the best bikers roads in the world!
Very popular now as well as the Game of Thrones was filmed at multiple locations a long its route.
In addition if you are into Road Racing it takes you to the world famous NW200 road track at Portrush.
Sorry bit of a rant but lots of bikers appear to miss one of the most scenic riding road.
But hey I ride it most weeks and I’m biased.
Your trip looked fantastic and I hope it’s not long before you guys are back!

Thank you so much. We want to go back at some point to do the more northern part too. We loved the areas we did, but didn’t have long enough to explore properly. The more touristy areas can be busy but May was a good time to go. I hope you are as lucky with the weather as we were.

      Thank you so much!
We both have a DJI Mic2 transmitter on the inside of the chin bars of our helmets, which are wirelessly connected to our DJI Osmo Action 4 cameras. When editing, I sync the clips from the individual cameras to make sure the dialogue works. With some intercom systems I know you can get the audio straight from them, but unfortunately our Sena SRL-2's don't have that facility so we rely on the DJI Mic2's.
      Hope that helps.

When you arrived in Larne your route choice missed probably one of the best roads on the island. The Causeway Coast route would have taken you north along the east and north coast and would easily have linked up with where you went. Never mind ... next time!

Thank you for your comment. You are not the first to say that we missed a treat by not doing the North coast, so that is definitely on the list for next time. Unfortunately we were on a tight schedule and just couldn’t factor that in this time around. At least it gives us an excuse to come back 😁

As a local it never fails to amaze me the amount of tourist riders that run straight across Northern Ireland as if we dont exist. At larne if you had of turned right you would have been on the best coast road in the british Isles , then you could have went on to the overrated waw.

Many thanks for taking the time to comment.
I have had several messages saying we missed some amazing scenery in NI by not following the coast West from Larne. Unfortunately on this occasion we were under time constraints as we had to be in Wales for a certain date, but were really surprised how beautiful the Sperrin area of NI was as we crossed it to get to Belleek. The thing is the WAW is very well marketed, so that's where everyone goes (a bit like the NC500), but I'd never even considered the NI coast for a road trip simply because I knew nothing about it, as it seems to be a bit of a secret. Needless to say, we will definitely return to explore the NI coast after hearing from so many people that we missed a treat. Thanks for your recommendation.
