Fallout 4 - Oberland Station Settlement Build Tour

  • This is a settlement build tour at Oberland Station from my most recent lightly modded Fallout 4 playthrough, using only vanilla and DLC objects (with a little help from Place Everywhere).
    This is a Minuteman protected farming and trading settlement. A trading area has been setup alongside the railroad tracks, with a bar and clinic built into the southern gate house, and a Power Armour workshop and a settler’s house build into the north gate.
    Around the pre-existing fenced field I have setup some additional settler housing, a smaller crop field and a scavenging station, and used a box car as the base for a guard tower in the south west corner of the settlement.
    I have always been put off building here due to all the sloping terrain, but really happy with how this turned out.

    Oberland Station has always been among my least favorite settlements because I have never been able to make a good settlement here and I figured it was just a bad location. Wow I was way wrong. This might be one of the best settlements I have ever seen anyone make. This looks better than any place the devs put in the game. Truly a job well done!

      The original creators of Fallout got the basics of life right: that you would grow up in a community somewhere and prioritise sound buildings that can stand the elements. Unfortunately, most that you can build in this game doesn't look that way.
      Granted, Junktown was also made with metal sheets in the (or near) hottest place on Earth, so the inhabitants basically lived in ovens, but Shady Sands was made from scratch from adobe.

    Hey Fiddle Flaps, I love all your settlements and even ran a game with all the FF Transfer Settlements. I have only one issue. At 9:06 in this video, we see the Chemistry station. It is backwards. The tank needs to be to the right. I believe the same problem exists in the Red Rocket blueprint as well. I can't specifically remember which others might have it, because I had been fixing them myself. Thank you so much for all the work you have put into Fallout 4 modding!

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  Год назад +1

      As you can probably tell from how I placed them, I don’t use those stations in game so at the time of building had no idea they were backwards 😳🤣.
      I mostly use them as decoration for the tops of cabinets and when placed correctly have a small pipe that ends up sticking out of the top drawers which I thought looked odd. So although they are backwards that is their intended placement but easy to fix for those who do want to use them.
      This was pointed out to me in comments over at Nexus a while ago and I don’t use this method anymore, although as you have seen there are still a few of my older builds that do use it. Thanks for pointing this out and great to hear you have been using the blueprints! 😁👍

Placing the furniture is often quite fiddly and often involves lots of nudging with Place Everywhere till I get it in the right spot. The rest of the decoration involves dropping lots of junk items on the floor, picking them up and placing them in build mode and then turning them static.
      Depending on how the Starlight build goes I might do an extra video to the build series covering it, I guess if anything it might prove useful to people with insomnia 🤣

    Very cool looking. I can't figure out where the only clear space is left to drag completed structures from. Appreciate how you used mostly the authentic wood stuff. I've never DL'd OCD decorator due to disclaimer (FPS slow down) but it really is immersive. Yours is the 1st time I've seen Lvl 2 ? (I think) stores poking through the roofs , looks awesome. Might copy that as I've got dummy stores & clerk pads (Lvl 3 stores are obnoxiously wide) Not that it matters but during your tour I couldn't help wondering how the clunky Happiness quotient responded on this build ?

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  2 года назад

      Thanks - glad you liked the place! When building I hardly ever use group select and generally build structures in their intended place (if that’s what you meant about the clear space?). I don’t use OCDecorator (or any settlement object mods) as I like to provide blueprints of my builds that are mod requirement free, makes it so much easier for people to use them with having to grab a bunch of additional mods they may not want.
      All the decorations are just standard junk items that have been dropped, placed, and then made static using Place Everywhere. The stores are the lvl 2 versions mainly as I also really like how the signs poke through the roofs, feel it helps add a little life to the stores without having to use the neon lettering.
      The last time I checked on the place its happiness rating was 84 (seems to go up to 85 and then back down again over time). Thanks again for checking out the build 😀👍

      I built this on PC and was on my third size bar reset also using the gun glitch. I unfortunately do not own any current consoles but from my limited understanding of them I thought Xbox had less restrictions on mods?
      For the crashing issue have you used any mods on your save game? If you have not done so already, have you uninstalled any mods and then tested the gun glitch on a new clean save. Failing that maybe clearing your consoles system cache or reinstalling the game might help?

Bethesda did really bad update for xbox a couple years back which has completely crap out the game where it freezes every so often like maybe 3 hr or 5 hours of game play it freezes. So i try to stay away from mods. I just recently discovered that the gun glitch doesn't stop the cap it will still freeze the game console. Most of the time the Provisioner’s and their Brahmin use the main gates at each end of the settlement, walk a little way in and then do a U-turn and walk back out. I have found that it can sometimes take a couple of in game days for them to recognise and path around new structures, or travelling away from the settlement and then returning can also help.
