As a bit of roleplay for my own dark urge character, ever since he killed Alfira, I had him wearing her lute, occasionally trying to play it, but failing,. once I turned level twelve, I got the performer feat, allowing him to finally play well. I did the same thing (I may or may not have also sold the Deathstalker Mantle out of sheer spite). I even had my dark urge respec as a bard after killing Orin.
I felt that Astarion should have responded more strongly than that. The dark urge origin shares a lot of the same traits as his own. I mean, Bhaal called you a spawn ffs
@@DjDoomtrainwhile yes Bhaal is obviously a much bigger deal than Cazador, they are still both a sort of ‘parental’ figure to the characters, who were clearly abusive, instilled them with a nature they didn’t want (cazador made Astarion a vampire, Bhaal gave the dark urge the drive to kill), and both tossed their ‘spawn’ aside as soon as they were no longer convenient to them. The specifics may be different, but Astarion and Dark Urge still have alot of the same stuff going on

Yeah. Really weird that Larian execs came out and said 'Playing your own character is the best way to experience BG3 for the first time' when Dark Urge has so much unique content that is not only a great addition to the main story, but also ties it in so well to the other BG games. Also it makes you being the 'chosen one' make way more sense and helps fit in with the rest of the Origins a bit more.
@@MrSyltphademus I suspect having some of your decisions / wishes overridden because of a backstory you are not immediately familiar with was not an easily advisable start.
@@schmingbeefin4473 Dark Urge is more thematic to the series than Tav as Durge is a Bhaalspawn similar to the protagonist of the previous Baldur's Gate games, and has personal reasons to confront the cult of Bhaal just like they did. The god of blood (slaughter) speaking to you through a pool of blood through murdering his messenger is one of the best entrances I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen the avengers end game where all the heroes came through the portals for the war in theaters.
We memed that entrance now but at the time, gods, the hype i felt with my friends when I saw it for the first time. It was glorious and I'm not even a comics fan.
This was also better executed and much more well done. I mean, the Lord of Murder, the Father of Slaughter is a truly unholy dark god after all. Vindictive as as Bhaal is, Old Withers said it best: Bhaal’s wrath is imprecise.
Going to start a second playthru dark urge redemption, I’m going to have him start off as a sorcerer but when he wakes up he KNOWS someone somewhere is responsible for what happened and swears an oath of vengeance (Paladin multiclass) and at first he only acts with actions in pursuit of this. He naturally gravitates towards Shadowheart due to their similar situations with memory loss and as time progresses the two begin leaning on each other more and more, while he does indulge in the urge occasionally it starts coming to a head in act 2 when he begins learning what he is and most importantly when the urge tries to get him to kill Shadowheart. This is the point where he begins actively seeking getting rid of the urge more then seeking vengeance. By the time he fully removes the urge his action of seeking a way to protect the people around him before tools for his vengeance will manifest me as respecing him turning him from an oath of vengeance to an oath of devotion becoming a true hero
Good luck playing a DU Paladin and not becoming an Oathbreaker. Granted Vengeance is much easier an Oath to keep than the rest, but it is still possible to lose it.
I did a similar thung in my Blind Run, however going for a more Godless, forge your own Destiny Path. My durge, Aadan was a fanatical Oath of The Ancients Paladin, Who obsessively followed heroism in an effort to run from his urges. This blind pursuit of Justice often led him to making mistakes, such as scaring Isobel by saying she deserved some punishment for stealing, leading to her death, and then blaming khaga for killing her, attacking her and leading to the death of Zevlor and most tieflings. He also, despite actively trying to resist, sometimes gave into his urges. In act 2 he lost his oath (for a dumb in-game reason), this stripped him of his only reason to resist, feeling lost, bhaals influence on him got much stronger, and he started giving into most urges and generally tend to being selfish and cruel. This was until, after sparing Isobel, the urges tried to make him kill shadowheart. This was the moment he realized, he was, maybe for the First time ever, feeling love. There was much more to his Life than an Oath or an Urge. Aadan had started to care for his Friends, feel empathy towards them, feel the simple joys of Life. And above all, in that Moment, he wanted to Protect Shadowheart. And so he refused to listen to his father. This was the Moment Bhaal had started to lose him. During Act 3 he decided to truly be himself, only acting out of his Heart. He realized his care and his love for his friends had made him a kind soul, and he made every effort to help others in his journeys in the city. At the tribunal, the chants of Bhaals followers and the influence in his Blood got to him, and he slayed the sacrifice. But that was his last victim. At that point the immense pleasure found in slaughter made him also feel terribile, and that the love he felt for his companions was much more true than whatever bhaal wanted. So after defeating Orin, he rejected Bhaal. His ressurection granted him the peace he had fought so dearly for, and he had truly, not thanks to an Oath, not thanks to an Urge, found himself. Then in saving Baldur's Gate, he truly became a Hero.

I do wonder what happens if you don't kill Isobel. Durge technically HAS to kill "a bard" (Alfira or Quil), but as far as I can tell this is the only kill you can not avoid. The others you should be able to avoid by passing Dice Roll check.
If you don’t kill Isobel I believe the butler comes to your camp and tries to convince you to murder your love interest. Then, like you say, it’s just a matter of dice rolls to prevent that

You don’t even understand the amount of goosebumps I had when he walks out with this speech
after seeing this it's time to start character number 5 so i can do dark urge. (i've never finished the game)
That armor..has just inspired me to be a paladin with dark urge.....but a tiefling
Companion are like, oh he is dead, ok seems we will approve that with no other reaction😂
I freaking love what kick as detail
I have toyed with playing the dark urge but never quite got round to it, started it twice and then bottled it. Tell me: did you romance anyone as the dark urge, CAN you romance someone as it
You can romance anyone like a non durge. In fact i reccomend romancing someone because it plays an important role later
All choices that no one ever made on their first ever play through on Honor Mode where save scumming is not a ting😂
Black hair shadowheart: "(...) I am not sure I would have managed (...)", well, I do know. You didn't lol.
Holy crap Sarevok is still alive that's insane. How many times do you have to kill this guy lol
Can you accept Bhaal but become a Mind Flayer later??
Yes you can! I did that because my character romanced the Emperor.
@@Wizard_Pikachu thank u! Will start my third playthrough as dark urge 😆
Absolute peak was having to 1v1 Orin with her being the Slayer. As a rogue it was definitely not great 1v1ing but a challenge and an epic conclusion to the arc.
i just realized something...the voice actor for wither sounds like the voice actor who played the dragon in the Merlin series.
My theory is he is jergal but is now a litch because he gave his power to the dead three
Salute. Damn. Withers!
If the thing that Withers did here dont prove he is Jergal former god of death then I dont know that more prof you need
o withers is your cool divine adoptive father now?
man Im glad some of the old character are here but what I really hope for is a character based on the main character of BG2ee and he would guide you how to fight the urge or something gahaha
So...this guy is basically Shao Khan and you are playing as Reptile....
Can you still get this if you kill Inspector Valyria at the tribunal and become an assassin of Bhaal?
Yes
Wait, you killed Isobel but had Jaheira in the party? So you killed Isobel in act 3? Lmao.
you can pass a deception check on Jaheira
Easy? You think me going evil was easy??

In my case she abducted Lae'zel, this gnome I never saw. I thought the git girl had left me. End will come soon, I am curious.
I've been curious what happens if you select 5 at 12:21? Does bhal reclaim you or is it just a minor thing?
i like the goblins hat
Dammit i'm never going to finish this game i'm going to start over again....... 400+ hours in lol
4:43 So if you're dark urge you can fight with Orin 1v1?
Yes

Dude pls do a video about Liya reaper of bhaal. You seem to be the only RUclipsr that's found her. Even google has nothing on her yet. You'll get views I'm very sure

Owh...so she's just a non companion npc.....my bad
I have two walkthrougs, by durge and tav, and Orin alvays faces me in Slayer form. WTF(
2:13 is that shadowman’s voice
Can you still redeem yourself if you side with the goblins?
I suppose yes, because siding with the goblins is not a Dark Urge exclusive option, regular Tav can do it too. But I don't know.
What armor do you have on in this video?
So my question is: dark urge and ascended astarion evil unhealthy powercouple?
Yes
Can we give control of the Kotor series to the company that made BG3 pls
What happens if you lose the 1v1and kill orin after? Im doong honormode durge and want to know how try hard i need to be
How the tadpole not crawl out after 1st death?

Just wanna know, can i not kill Isobel as Durge during my redemption bc I really dont wanna kill her
Withers in thumbnail somehow reminds me of master oogway
Wow fucking amazing
Principal Lewis?
I think the best ending is sacrificing baldur' gate to baal
How can you have 200+ HPs. I was around 120 at level 12. Even with tough feat (that gives about 24 more).
I had 197 on karlack in the end, the D12 from barbarian plus 20+ constitution plus hearoes feast.
heroes feast (+8 health) plus Aid upcasted to spell slot 6 (+30 hp) + any frontline classes with naturally high constitution benefits
Classic "im a good boy and a hero" ending.
The best one.
so withers IS Jergal I take it lol...
is it possible to accept the slayer form, but still get the good ending?
Yes. You only need to reject Bhaal when you meet him.
@@GamesfromMarsYT so then in order to get it you have to kill the person you’re closest to? or is there another way to get it while keeping them alive

Is that pelleK narrating? It’s f it is good luck with DOMI online!!
Just because it's a redemption arc doesn't mean its the best ending.
Its just a opinion dude
For me it's the best not because of the redemption aspect, but because you get to tell Bhaal to kick rocks straight to his face. Sucker had it coming for a long time. and you get to become the original God of Death's chosen, so it's a win-win.
Well, for me it's definitely the best. Always strive to be better.
I hate how all these videos feature people playing the main character as one of the wierdo, stupid PC races.
This is the default dark urge character and some people choose to leave him as he is, just like Shepard in Mass Effect.

If you don't play as the dark urge, you find his body in Orin's room - he is the same default white dragonborn from the character creation. So it's more like keeping the "canon" look for the dark urge.
@@iveriendawnlight9081 What an awful choice by the designers then.
@@donkeysaurusrex7881. Fortunately you can change it to any race you want. Because I agree, the default dragonborn looks really lame.
For god of games add fordem voice dialogs
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Heroic/Redeemed Dark Urge is the canon route of BG3 given how fleshed out and well written the origin character is.
Given that gorion and imoen are mentioned when you are resisting I would say it most likely is.
@@NotEmoney Yep. There's also the fact that hero Dark Urge has much more impactful character development and is faced with more obstacles than a generic good Tav. Hero Dark Urge's story also compliments redeemed Selunite Shadowheart quite nicely.
@@Fang-gp6ne The whole carve your own purpose arc and overcome your god/deity is there for every character. While playing as tav you are some white knight saviour. While playing as urge you’re just as messed up as the rest of your party.
Considering that Gorion's Ward was also Bhaal's spawn, it's on brand.
Definitely feel like the Dark Urge story is deeply ingrained with the core story through line from the other Baldur's Gate games, so much so that if this redemption isn't the canon route, it'd be a mystery as to why it alone would carry over so much on it's shoulders from the past.
As a bit of roleplay for my own dark urge character, ever since he killed Alfira, I had him wearing her lute, occasionally trying to play it, but failing,. once I turned level twelve, I got the performer feat, allowing him to finally play well. My durge forever regretted what he did to her, So in order to honer her, He tried to pick up her instrument and keep playing in her memory, And he finally was able to figure it out. He'll continue to play her lute, in hope she'll be able to rest in peace. To show he will never harm an innocent again.
My dark urge even remembered her in one of the endings. the amount of detail in the durge run is unlike all other origin characters.
@@Dr.Yakub22 Mine did as well, as I refused to kill that one cleric lady
Just get the musical proficiency when you first meet Alfira and save your feat for something else
@@manuelsilva3365 missing the point.
I did the same thing (I may or may not have also sold the Deathstalker Mantle out of sheer spite). I even had my dark urge respec as a bard after killing Orin.
I felt that Astarion should have responded more strongly than that. The dark urge origin shares a lot of the same traits as his own. I mean, Bhaal called you a spawn ffs
still a big difference between the god of murder and a vampire lord :D
@@DjDoomtrainwhile yes Bhaal is obviously a much bigger deal than Cazador, they are still both a sort of ‘parental’ figure to the characters, who were clearly abusive, instilled them with a nature they didn’t want (cazador made Astarion a vampire, Bhaal gave the dark urge the drive to kill), and both tossed their ‘spawn’ aside as soon as they were no longer convenient to them. The specifics may be different, but Astarion and Dark Urge still have alot of the same stuff going on
well, the dark urge is bhaalspawn
@@orestisgeorgatos6725 lmao ... yes... we kinda allrdy know
His response is different if you're romancing him I think.
Dying, ressurected, and then becoming Jergal's chosen? Sign me up!
Jergal secretly keeping his three successors in line and taking their stuff ^^
Durge is Jergals favourite grandchild :D
Jergal basically the grandpa who saw his son abused his grandson so bad, he went to get the custody and won
Just sucks that you get 3 different achievements for completing an evil durge playthrough but not a single one when redeemed
I loved the redemption of my character, except I was an owlbear for the whole cutscene after beating orin 😂
Yeah I was in displacer beast form when I won the fight. Glitched the cutscene so the camera was stuck in the floor for most of it.
Did you hit Orin with the old "Owlbear from the top rope"?
Kind of annoys me that you can literally die in front of your love interest in this story line and they don't even react. I was like wtf Wyll how can you just stand there while I'm dying?
Yeah idk if this was an oversight from the devs or if they intended it to be interpreted as the characters being in a state of shock.
Deserved for romancing Wyll

I'm so glad I didn't listen to what people said about do not play Dark Urge as first playthrough. The story is so good and it fit the main protagonist nicely that I completely forgot that it's not canon.
Wait wait I've been seeing people say Redeemed Durge is most likely the canon ending, has Durge been entirely confirmed not canon?
@@schmingbeefin4473 Dark Urge is more thematic to the series than Tav as Durge is a Bhaalspawn similar to the protagonist of the previous Baldur's Gate games, and has personal reasons to confront the cult of Bhaal just like they did. Adding to that, all those schemes and plans with the Absolute, Karsus' Crown and netherstones were conceived by Durge.
Tav has no such impacts and ties to the factions involved in the story.
@@mgeldarion58 I know, I'm asking why the original comment is saying Durge isn't canon.
I agree, bhaal communicating through his messengers blood was spectacular.
Well done horrorific entrance scene by Bhaal. Top 10 moment in BG3 ?
I've managed with no issue. You just have to not be a dick and never give in to the urge, when you have the option to resist.@@davidcrawford5324
I tried to do a evil playthrough but in the moment i became a risk to my lover and friends, the redemption thing started 😊
If you had retired the npc isobel like the butler had so politely asked off you he would have never done that to you we are the apostles of darkness. The dark urge are meant to be that don’t be like orin. Please don’t be emotional
11:58 - this means a lot coming from Astarion. He knows, and he’s been living it. He can definitely relate
Then, like you say, it’s just a matter of dice rolls to prevent that
You also don’t get the slayer form that’s the reward for that murder, whether Isobel or love interest
