Michelle was one of those singer/songwriters who came along in a flash and left almost as quickly. While she has an undeniable talent for singing AND writing, it's the arrangement here that catches me. Gentle acoustic strumming leads a simple snare beat while she sings all kitten-ish. She gains vocal power during the lead-in to the chorus, and then, you hear the sound of walls being ripped down, as roaring electric guitars tear the chorus apart and flip it inside out. The push-pull dichotomy occurs throughout the song, and then it's back to barren acoustic strums for the bare-bones bridge. A simple cymbal shimmer brings the listener hurtling back into the last chorus, during which she uses every bit of vocal prowess she has to wring every last drop of emotive power out of the song, especially during the held/belted sections. This song is one of my favorites for the arrangement alone.

@@LastSaturday09 sometimes especially in some places you know what I mean lol. Back when you could go to a party or chill at the beach and not worry about somebody shooting the place up
2003 in La Rochelle, France. I was a young student, 20 years old, and I remember driving by the sea coming back from a date with my girlfriend, having a party to attend to on the beach with my friends, listening to Michelle Branch records. We used to gather, laugh, and talk about love and life. That feeling of Freedom. Of expanding my own horizons. That feeling of starlit skies, sunrises and sunsets, of warm summer days and cosy winter nights together. Of friendship, of romance. And the sea, everywhere. Everyone grew up, and soon we all set on our own paths to adulthood. I wonder how everyone is doing now. I feel a part of my soul has never truly left that place. Sometimes I go back there when I hear such a song. Knowing that these years were the best of my life.
The Spirit Room and Hotel Paper are genuinely the most solidly crafted front to back pop albums released in the 2000's. Every track is an absolute slice of perfection.

She is extremely talented. I like how her producers layer the music. It goes through several levels of intensity and gets louder as it gets to the first chorus. That was something they did a lot in late 90s and early 00s. But she used that technique in a lot of her singles.

I discovered this song within the last 6 months. In some way, it has helped me with some of my anxiety and depression. Just like it says in the song, If I just breathe I'll see that everything is alright. I think we sometimes get so caught with the stress in our lives that we forget to stop and breathe every once in a while.

Yes, I've downloaded her album and now I'm listening to it at work... They don't make music like this anymore... Ps waiting for the "ok boomer" reply 😂
soopainfinite They Dont. She’s an absolute generational talent in my opinion and I’ve followed her career even after she made that Wreckers cd. It makes me sad she didn’t stay popular after her 1st 2 albums but I’m glad she decided to keep making music afterwards
Wow, only 1 million views. She's one of the most underrated, hidden talents I've ever heard. So many amazing songs... I guess we're the lucky ones for being the few who get to experience them.
It's wild, I grew up listening to hip hop r&b. But I grew and matured. I love this old Michelle Branch. She is easily climbing her way up on my top 10 artist all time. Amazing guitar skills, beautiful voice, physically appealing. 😍
My personal favorite song of the entire 2000s decade. I love this song so much. The guitar layers in this song are so beautiful. Especially during the 2nd verse. As you can tell, I’m quite a sucker for guitar layers in songs. And this song full of them. Just a wonderful song overall.
Holy crap, heard this Song today in our local shop, I was obsessed with it kept searching, until I found the right Song, making me realize, how beautiful it is to be alive and feel pure happiness :D For everyone who happens to read this comment: Please have a nice day and don't let the world drag you down ;)
I just discovered this song a few days ago. I love it. I have severe anxiety, and this will be a good song to keep in mind. I also love that Gibson Hummingbird she was playing.
So after she made The Wreckers album, Warner Bros decided to ice her career after that. She was released and she signed with Verve Records and she released Hopeless Romantic in 2017. Due to poor sales, they dropped her BUT she’s working on a new album according to her Instagram
Just so you know, Michelle tried to released "West Coast Time" in 2011 and her record label wouldnt let her but the good news is that a lot of the songs are on RUclips. She did successfully release a 3rd solo album in 2017 called "Hopeless Romantic". It sounds drastically different than her 1st two albums. It has an 80's indie pop vibe to it but it still showcases her mastery at writing songs.
This is my favorite Michelle Branch. I never knew it was a single growing up. This is my first time watching any of her videos. I had 2 CDs of hers growing up that I liked and now that I'm older I love them way more.

Songs from the 2000s give me a different type of comfort that songs of today can’t provide me
SInce the mid 2010s, the music industry has been filled with dirty and depressing songs about sex and drugs.
I've been driving for an hour
Just talking to the rain
You say I've been driving you crazy
And its keeping you away
So just give me one good reason
Tell me why I should stay
Cause I don't want to waste another moment
I'm saying things we never meant to say
And I take it just a little bit
I, hold my breath and count to ten
I, I've been waiting for a chance to let you in
If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know everything is alright
Breathe
Every little piece of me
You'll see
Everything is alright
If I just breathe
Well it's all so overrated
In not saying how you feel
So you end up watching chances fade
And wondering what's real
And I give you just a little time
I, wonder if you realize
I've been waiting till I see it in your eyes
If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know everything is alright
Breathe,
Every little piece of me
You'll see
Everything is alright
If I just breathe
Breathe
So I whisper and I'm,
Hoping you hear me
Do you hear me?
If I just breathe
Let it fill the space between
I'll know everything is alright
Breathe,
Every little piece of me
You'll see
Everything is alright
I've been driving for an hour
Just talking to the rain
Was going through my old cd's and stumbled upon this song and how could I have forgotten about Michelle Branch... Had a crush on her and loved her music...
This song takes me back to middle school, I love her music compared to the mumble rap and autotune pop songs.
Even after all these years, chills.
Year 2000 i miss it now im 40😂❤❤
Michell branch! Sum 41, linkin park!, greenday, simple plan, avrill lavign etc.... damn
Currently rereading Until He Returned and ito yung kinanta ni Klare sa Ardent Hot spring.
My personal favorite song of the entire 2000s decade. I love this song so much. The guitar layers in this song are so beautiful. Especially during the 2nd verse. As you can tell, I’m quite a sucker for guitar layers in songs. And this song full of them. Just a wonderful song overall.
This is pure talent that doesn't get recognize anymore. You don't to have much talent to be poplar now. But there are rare decent ones here and there.
check out Lana Del Rey
I admit that all of her songs are beautiful. But this song "Breathe" was my favorite. 👍👍👍

Me too. This one is my fave from her❤
Her music is iconic ❤❤❤ 2023 and I’m here for it!
Oh Michelle Branch. What an iconic voice. One of many greats.Don't know why but I always laugh when she throws that guitar in the ocean on that video.
One of her best songs! Love your music Michelle!
Holy crap, heard this Song today in our local shop, I was obsessed with it kept searching, until I found the right Song, making me realize, how beautiful it is to be alive and feel pure happiness :D
For everyone who happens to read this comment: Please have a nice day and don't let the world drag you down ;)
How come this only has 6M views???
I just discovered this song a few days ago. I love it. I have severe anxiety, and this will be a good song to keep in mind. I also love that Gibson Hummingbird she was playing.
I’ve struggled with anxiety too, and I also love that Hummingbird. Kinda gave me worse anxiety when she threw it in the ocean though! 😆
@@jrbowen81 me, too! I almost cried. I hope it was just some sort of camera trick or editing and it didn’t actually get thrown in 😭😭😭
@@savedbyJesusgirl93 Surely it was just a prop, right? Lol
2000's is freakin awesome. 😭 And this girl is my crush since then, i still remember i have the album of michelle branch, Hotel Paper. ❤️ So nostalgic.
OUR LADY OF MANAOAG ! 😇🥳⭐️💎⭐️
Major nostalgia listening to Michelle branch. 20 years ago ,listening to these songs in high school. Helped me overcome bullying and depression. 🥰🥺
I love Michelle Branch and her music! 🖤 brings me back to my childhood
Don't know what happened to Michelle Branch? But she is super talented. I really miss songs like this. Thank you Michelle. 😊😊😊😊😊🧡
So after she made The Wreckers album, Warner Bros decided to ice her career after that. She was released and she signed with Verve Records and she released Hopeless Romantic in 2017.
Due to poor sales, they dropped her BUT she’s working on a new album according to her Instagram
Early 2000s music era is unmatched
So underrated as an artist, singer and musician ...
its timeless and exhilarating!! Michelle, we know you had a kid, but come back..... this world needs female rock- (not pop) stars
Female rockers are always hot to me. Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, Kelly Clarkson, Fefe Dobson, Skye Sweetnam and Krystal Meyers are my queens.
I miss you so much, Michelle!♥️
Just so you know, Michelle tried to released "West Coast Time" in 2011 and her record label wouldnt let her but the good news is that a lot of the songs are on RUclips.
She did successfully release a 3rd solo album in 2017 called "Hopeless Romantic". It sounds drastically different than her 1st two albums. It has an 80's indie pop vibe to it but it still showcases her mastery at writing songs.
I love Michelle branch
3:00 gosh her singing was out of this world she is perfection
This is my favorite Michelle Branch. I never knew it was a single growing up. This is my first time watching any of her videos. I had 2 CDs of hers growing up that I liked and now that I'm older I love them way more.
I have absolutely adored her since she emerged in the early 2000s!!!
She’s always on the radio in stores like Kinney Drugs and Walgreens. That’s how I loved her music.
Incredible Singer MICHELLE BRANCH Grew up listening to this Fantastic music this was my first CD hotel paper love it till this day I still listening to that Cd ❤😍😘 Michelle you rock 😍
