This is one of the best videos I’ve seen for vehicle repair. I would highly recommend this to anyone. It is a lot of work, but if you do it step by step it not bad. It saves you a lot of money!!
+Tom Sebert Thank you! We love empowering our customers and showing how to perform DIY auto repairs with our high-quality auto parts. 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
My dad has been a mechanic 60 years and I’ve wrenched for 30 or so and I did my oil pan gasket on my 2000 Tahoe and this dudes video was spot on ! I trust him :)
you do extra job to remove front differential. no need to do this to remove oil pan. only loose all diff bolts, even without disconnection of axles and shaft. diff will drop down for a while, which will be enough to remove oil pan. this is according to GM manual. I tested this method, it works!
334,300 and counting . I studied this video for almost a year on and off till I was ready . Thank you immensely sir I appreciate all your hard work and attention to detail
When this technician gets tired of turning wrenches, he could narrate audio books. This man is like the Bob Ross of auto repair. I was flatbackin this job on concrete… and I didn’t sound anything like this.
cool thing is while you are at it you can also service so many components and gaskets to extend the live of your truck/suv. That's why I love the GMT800 platform, it's like a big Lego set for mechanically curious/adventurous owners.
yeah, even if there's extra steps that's unnecessary, I'm not going to do that myself, better hire someone else to do it for me. You're making really high-quality videos - everything's very clear, high definition, in focus, no wasting time, the camera is not shaking, panning, zooming around all over the place and making us dizzy.
19:10, DONT HAVE TO REMOVE COMPRESSOR! I used a baby 10mm wrench that slot right on that bolt and I used a second wrench to double-wrench it loose. Comes right out👍
you also dont have to drop the whole front differential only reason they do this is to take the oil pan out to get to the 1 bolt for the oil pick up tube that goes into the oil pump there is 4 bolts on the differential you can take out and it will drop it just enough to get the pan off if your oil pan aint leaking dont bother with it you can get that 1 bolt out of the oil pump tube it can be a pain but you can do it and not take off the oil pan
Working in my driveway.. I'm going to pull my 5.3 out of the Yukon XL. It's a 2001 and has 457,000 miles so yes. Great job on that pump. I am just going to swap in a 5.3'from another truck Here in PA WE have lotta trucks in the junkyards with 5.3.
You don't have to remove the front diff. You just have to unbolt it from its brackets and lower it. Sometimes, you have to unbolt the driver cv half shaft if there's clearance issues. This is the hard way to do the job.
Good video i change oil pump pick up tube new o ring new sensor still got low oil pressure any help will be appreciate. Can the oil barbell go bad and make the oil pressure drop
Hello. I'm considering doing this fix but is it absolutely necessary to remove the front differential and shaft and oil pan and everything else to just replace the oil pump, seeing how the oil pump is right there in the front with the water pump???
Great video, but pulling the whole diff out isn't necessary. It will drop just enough to get to the pick-up tube bolt. It sucks but still easier than dropping the diff.
I’ll be replacing an oil pump in an engine that’s already been in use. I don’t imagine I’ll need to pressure fill the whole engine. I planned on putting a little break in grease on the gear when I have the cover off to shim it, then removing the galley plug and adding oil to the pump itself. What are your thoughts on that? Thankyou
Hell no just did one today just lowered diff!! Used extension with swivel ...undid 4 bolts inside bottom of pan to clear oil pick up tube and pan came out no prob
Is it required to remove the oil pan? I recently replaced the oil pan gasket and aside from the pickup tube, I don't see a real requirement for doing all the work under the truck if the only need is replacing the pump.
The pickup tube goes into the pump. The tube has to be disconnected from the pump to get the pump out. You can try removing the bolt that holds the tube to the pump but if it falls into the pan you're removing the pan
You can do it without taking the pan off but suggest having a magnet and rage covering under the bolt location of pick-up tube. 10mm wrench works just be carefull,
Hello I hate to ask but how much did it all cost total. Parts and labor. Because this is what needs to be done on my 2005 Chevy Tahoe just to give me an idea on what to expect to pay. Or should I just add more money and just have a rebuilt engine installed but I don’t know how much a rebuilt engine would cost with labor. Thanks
Another thing you may want to check is the o-ring for the oil pickup tube. There is different colors and size o-rings for that pickup tube. You need to make sure you use the right one it will cause loss of oil pressure.
Holy cannoli, I need to replace the pump on my 2003 Chevy S10 and there are no vids and thought this would be the same engine and all, but no way I am tackling all of that. I thought it was as simple as dropping the pan and maybe the cross bar to gain access. I need to dig more because if this is what I have to do...not happening.
Good job! I'm pulling the 5.3 engine on my 03 Sierra because it is leaking from literally every orifice and gasket. 183k miles so hopefully I won't have to do it again.
Before a replacement you could have tried replacing rear main seal and PCV valve that's most of the major oil leakage solved on V8 GM Blocks then valve covers and oil sensor
@@famholland469 There was a Valve Cover update for driver side that came out in 2011, replace it, do both valve cover seals, and bolt seals with fel pro permadry units. I'd suggest with the engine pulled to replace the timing chain and gears, get the 4th gen cam seal plate. Replace pickup tube o ring. Knock Sensors. Intake seals are optional. If you pull oil pan, use fel pro permadry gasket for it.
Doesnt seem terribly hard, but without the right tools and without a car lift I feel like it won't be worth trying. Good video, but I'm also not a mechanic.
Dam this guy sure wasted a lot of time taking down that diff that didn't have to come down.. just lower diff use extension with swivel for pan bolts once pan drops use small extension with electric ratch to undo 4 10mm bolts bottom of pan that will allow oil pick up to clear without having to remove diff work smart not hard ;) try it out it works great
Has anyone in there lifetime ever have an oil pump ever go out in any vehicle you have owned before? I have never meet anybody ir ever heard of it happening. Leave it to the GMC to keep producing vehicles when they know this defective part exists.
Depending on where you are, dealerships will charge $1650 for parts and labor if they do t find anything else wrong and don’t charge you a diagnostic fee. An independent mechanic would probably charge you $1200 parts and labor.
You're funny you tell people not to take the air conditioner pump off but you pulled the whole front differential out to take the oil pan off and the Driveline you didn't need to do any of that. Trying to get that bullet out next to the AC compressor with an open-ended wrench you could strip the head of the bolt for the easily

Excellent job of training! You didn't swear once. that is impressive. Thank you!
I have 2 GMT800 Suburbans. One is a RWD 1500 and the other is a 4WD 2500. This video is going into my favorites. Awesome job by the way! Subscribed!

I did everything except pulling the front cv shafts off. Everything worked out great. Thanks
We’re you able to lower the front diff some without removing cv shafts? If so how much did you need to lower it to get the pan out?
Just so all viewers know. If you have 2wd the job is way easier, to get the oil pan off. Just by removing the cross member.
Working in my driveway.. I'm going to pull my 5.3 out of the Yukon XL. It's a 2001 and has 457,000 miles so yes. Great job on that pump. I am just going to swap in a 5.3'from another truck

Amazing video. Very well explained and filmed. Keep up the good videos. I wish you were in my town, I would bring my 2005 Tahoe to you hands down.
Thanks had trouble with the plugin on oil pan Great video
4x4's are real cool until you have to work on them
You are THE MAN! PELON!
+Odi Arroyo Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Hey boss when take off harmonic balancer do you have to mark it before taking off.
What I mean is Do you have to put back on in same position it was when talking off
It has a woodruf key, so it can only be placed one way
Jesus... I fell in love with how easy things are to work on the GMT800's... 4x4 primarily... But this just ended that lol.
Outstanding video. Very thorough 👍🏼
I’m doing this to my 08’ Tahoe right now!💪🏾

Did you shim the oil pump gears, i did not see you do that in the video ?
He did not! I came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed.
What is " shmming " the oil pump gears

Yep, great video and just as I thought, I'M not doing that. I'll leave it to the professionals.
You're comment made me die LOL 😂🤣😂
Great job excellent olot of work timing chain must be replace doing the job God bless you
Are this process the same for yukon denali xl?
I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 8.1 liter vortec. Is the oil pump and the pan or same place
Wow... That was one heck of a job!
Will i need alignment since it involves the idler arm?
Hello. I'm considering doing this fix but is it absolutely necessary to remove the front differential and shaft and oil pan and everything else to just replace the oil pump, seeing how the oil pump is right there in the front with the water pump???
Why not replace the timing chain. Being that you have it down that far?
Great video, but pulling the whole diff out isn't necessary. It will drop just enough to get to the pick-up tube bolt. It sucks but still easier than dropping the diff.
Bolts don't come out like that in michigan
thank yu for yur video best good ,,aim from saudia arabia
Insane GM design. I guess most is DIY except for the transaxle, that needs some creative thinking to take out

You only take off the axle when it is 4wd right
Well you can really take it off if it’s 2wd lol.
Hell no just did one today just lowered diff!! Used extension with swivel ...undid 4 bolts inside bottom of pan to clear oil pick up tube and pan came out no prob
There is a guy, Corey Braswell on here that shows changing the pump without dropping the pan.

There’s another guy who did this in less time without all the extra steps
did my wifes yukon denali xl never had to fully remove the front diff just drop it down a little
Good job ❤
The new oil pump must be 'shimmed' onto the crank with three shims to keep it centered before it is tightened down. That process was not shown here.
You have to keep in my also that some of these have a mechanical clutch fan on them that you have to remove.
What parts are needed to be replaced?
Hello I hate to ask but how much did it all cost total. Parts and labor. Because this is what needs to be done on my 2005 Chevy Tahoe just to give me an idea on what to expect to pay. I think it's about 8 hours for the job.
Around $1000-$1200
I just paid $1800 to the dealership for my 2005 tahoe 🤦🏾♂️
So half the work is alleviated if you have the 2wd model
Good video. No wonder my mechanic told me $2000 to change the oil pump
So I replaced the oil pump, oil pressure switch and it idles rough and the oil pressure is still 0. Any ideas? My truck is an 01 GMC Sierra 5.3L
Another thing you may want to check is the o-ring for the oil pickup tube. There is different colors and size o-rings for that pickup tube. You need to make sure you use the right one it will cause loss of oil pressure.
The oil pick-up tube O ring is a common issue with the 5.3
Holy cannoli, I need to replace the pump on my 2003 Chevy S10 and there are no vids and thought this would be the same engine and all, but no way I am tackling all of that. Wait you went that far in and didn’t replace the cam cap?
All that work and didn't change out the timing components.
+John Tomassini Thanks for watching. Buy the part in this video on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
My thought exactly. The TC looks a bit loose as well. OIl pump goes bad normally under high mileage, so why not change the TC while you're there!
Good job!

This was for educational purposes only. You can go the method your saying but it s not a fun job with the diff still in
I thought installing the new crank bolt was 37 foot pounds and then 140°

I've done enough on this envoy.. I'll just start looking for a shop. Unless I pick up another dodge v6 pickup. Than I'll sell this off fast.😅😂
Dude ain't messing round
The job looks a little heavy!
Mane to hell with all of that
Great viedo. I believe it's easier to pull the engine
thanks

All that work and no new timing gear set??????
I'm confused, why pull water pump to replace oil pump?
Oil pump is behind the front engine cover. Water pump is mounted on the front engine cover.
19:27 😂😂😂
*sees him remove the drive shaft*
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
You could do about 10 other major jobs while you did this. I see why this is a $1,500 job now. That even seems cheap.
How did you prime the pumps
+nakia Sandridge Thanks for watching! We go over the "priming" process at the 21:08 mark in the video. ruclips.net/video/5Oe9Urtf2AM/видео.html
Scrap it I reckon
Yeah, 4wd is a good idea, but I enjoy my 2wd for the reasons of skipping forward 😅
Geez all that just got an oil pump?! Extremely poor design.
wtf i will never buy a tahoe thought this would be similar to my express van for oil pump rnr hell naw this is fkd up
This seems like a lot of bullshittn work
Thanks alot for this video i have a yukon that did not move for 4 months because this pump im doing this tomorrow
Great video🤍
