I have it and alot of people cant even fathom what a burden it is because of the stigma that society has placed on the subject. I was feeling suicidal at first and that pretty much covers 3 years. Im not promiscuous, i caught it from an unfaithful girlfriend. The first person i told was my best friend. I was so broken. She made it seem like its nothing and i shouldnt worry about it. Its all in my head she said. Years went by and now i have fallen in love with my best friend and she is so beautiful and doesnt care if she contracts it. It was amazing to hear that, to be accepted. Obviously because i care for her so much i would never allow that to happen. Just have to be creative in the bedroom when an outbreak occurs so Im able to satisfy her. I cant say what you guys should do but if you do love the person than i would suggest to look for creative ways to protect yourself while still enjoying intimacy. I would suggest that your partner takes a suppressive dose so there is less chances you may contract anything. Thats just my thoughts.

@@alexjones28 You need to read up on the statistics; a staggering amount of people (80%) have HSV1 (oral herpes, can also cause genital infections if a person performs oral sex) and HSV2 (1 in 6 people, actually). Even further a huge portion of people are asymptomatic (showing no symptoms) of either one and even FURTHER neither one is included in regular STI tests (aka, when you go to the Dr and ask to be tested for "everything", you have to mention to include HSV1 and 2. They will not otherwise). And even FURTHER THAN THAT many Drs will not test you for either one unless you have active symptoms. The reality is, most people have at least one if not both. And unlike many STI's/STD's herpes 1 and 2 are quite benign long term. Do not cause cancer or make you infertile. It's just a part of being a human that has sex.

This kinda bums me out to be honest. It feels like playing russian roulette every time I'd want to be intimate and this causes anxiety. bottom line... one is most contagious when having an outbreak.... and way less contagious when NOT having an outbreak (keep your immune system up at all times as much as possible and this will increase not being contagious when not having an outbreak) as well as keeping body-hygiene the focus this will also increase less shedding when not having an outbreak..... too add to that, viral shedding decreases over time

Honestly, the worst thing about this condition is it's colloquial name. HSV2 is really not a big deal for most people. Valtrex (Valacyclovir) makes this condition a minor annoyance at worst.

I have it and alot of people cant even fathom what a burden it is because of the stigma that society has placed on the subject. I was feeling suicidal at first and that pretty much covers 3 years. Im not promiscuous, i caught it from an unfaithful girlfriend. The first person i told was my best friend. I was so broken. She made it seem like its nothing and i shouldnt worry about it. Honestly, the worst thing about this condition is it's colloquial name. HSV2 is really not a big deal for most people. Valtrex (Valacyclovir) makes this condition a minor annoyance at worst.
