  • Sorry about the quiet audio.
    Here is an episode of the syndicated Treasure Hunt from 1973. This run, just like many other 70s syndication runs, is missing quite a few episodes.
    Muriel and Eva are the first two contestants. Will someone find the $25,000? Will someone get fabulous prizes? Or just get klunked? Find out with Geoff Edwards!

    Thanks for sharing this. I used to watch this show everyday in the 1980s. I saw the CBN logo pop up on screen for a second, so that must've been the channel. They used to rerun a lot of old shows I liked back in the day. I wish one of the game show channels like Buzzer would air the Chuck Barris library of shows again.

      Buzzr does not have the right to air shows like this because Chuck Barris shows are owned by Sony even though Buzzr does air the 1990s version of Newlywed Game

    Lol, my grandpa pulled a stunt similar to that 2nd game with my mom one Christmas, started with a refrigerator sized box, inside it was a slightly smaller box, inside it was a slighter smaller box, inside it was a slightly smaller box etc. It ended up being a ring.

    What I can't figure out is why the jackpot cash prize went down over time. It was $25K in '73, and in '81 they were only offering $21K. Taking inflation into account, the cash prizes should have become larger (not smaller) over time.

    I always wondered......There were 30 (later expanded to 60) boxes. Moving cars and large merchandise on and off stage is a BIG DEAL. How could they have pre-planned 30 (or 60) different scenarios to perform with each box???

    • @drewzuhosky6826
      @drewzuhosky6826 5 месяцев назад

      There were stopdowns that were all edited from the complete episodes. After the boxes had been chosen in the game, the taping would be halted for a few moments to allow Geoff Edwards to be briefed on the sketch that corresponded with the box that got selected.

    • @Pmfried
      @Pmfried 5 месяцев назад

      @@drewzuhosky6826 Ok. But you mean that 30 (or later 60), sketches were written and rehearsed (per show), complete with prizes on stage? I mean, there were characters that appeared in some of those sketches with costumes and all kind of props. They also had to have all those cars, boats, furniture, appliances, etc. all set to go on stage -- and probably would never make it. Is that how they really did it?

    • @drewzuhosky6826
      @drewzuhosky6826 5 месяцев назад

      Yeah, and there was one sketch that caused Geoff Edwards to almost leave in protest. A contestant would be led to believe she won a car, but after the commotion died down, she'd be told that she only won its _windshield._ Edwards was disgusted by the mean-spirited premise and was briefly fired by Chuck Barris, who reversed course before any new episodes could be shot. The 1970's run of _Treasure Hunt_ ended that season, anyway.@@Pmfried

    • @drewzuhosky6826

      _Treasure Hunt_ deliberately only had females as contestants because a woman's emotions were easier to exploit than those of a man. If they tried the show with a guy, it's a different story, one which could have ended with host Geoff Edwards picking up his teeth.
      One proposed sketch for the show repulsed Edwards to the point where he nearly quit in protest.
      The gist of the sketch entails a woman believing that she had just won a new car, with the show revealing that she had only won ITS WINDSHIELD-- a sketch which thankfully never made it to air.

    • @drewzuhosky6826

      This was actually a pretty mean show if you think about it.
      _Treasure Hunt_ exploited the women contestants' emotions (all contestants who appeared on the show were women) since a woman's emotions are easier to toy with than a man's. If they tried the show with a guy, it's a different story, one which could have ended with host Geoff Edwards picking up his teeth.
