I came arcoss this video by accident. This was a great show. I hadn't seen this before, because it was before my time. I remember Geoff Edwards was the California lottery host for a while in the 1980's.
A lot of the closing credits names I do remember very vividly from my days in TV production back in the mid '70s...especially John Dorsey and Walt Case...two of the biggest, funniest screw-up teams in game show history! Miss them both. This WAS their talent at the very best...and thank you too, Geoff, for bringing it all together in the best deadpan way. RIP you guys.
They weren’t ad libbed, but during the commercial when the contestant is deciding to keep the money, Geoff is getting a briefing from the producer about the basics of the sketch. It’s generally up to him to decide how far to draw out the contestant’s anxiety.
Johnny Jacobs really was a superb announcer. Besides his long association with Chuck Barris, Jacobs worked in radio and television with Steve Allen, Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball, Jack Barry, Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day, Ernie Kovacs, Groucho Marx, and Betty White, among others. Jacobs died at 65 in 1982.
OMG I remember that set looking like a MOUNTAIN of boxes when I was little!!! I loved tis show I was only 7 or 8 but I KNEW I would win BIG if I ever went on there....35 yrs later still waiting to win big! GOD I LOVED THIS SHOW!!!!
Poor Jean. She thought she was playing it safe by keeping the money in the envelope. She looked disappointed when she found out it WASN'T a klunk. Sometimes you gotta take a chance.
Well, one thing is for sure...If you are going to try a revival, you can't be subtle about what you give away. Geoff and company revived the show in "81 in a great effort, but most everything was low-ball compared to what they used to give away. You need a check for $1,000,000, lots of trips and lot of cars. You also need a new "Klunk" song. That one they used sounds like throwing up to disco music!
I,ve that last year that it,s so iconic the original host of Treasure Hunt The late Jan Murray made numerous appearances on The Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall--I,m very surprised that the late Geoff Edwards who hosted The New Treasure Hunt didn,t also appear on The Hollywood Squares or even the creator of Treasure Hunt & other shows as well as host of THE GONG SHOW--the late Chuck Barris!!
To remind the younger audience how different the world was in 1976, no state had a lottery, and Atlantic City was still a couple years away from allowing gambling. Las Vegas was it. TV game shows in the 60s were low stakes (winning $500 on Password was a big deal.) Treasure Hunt and the $10,000 Pyramid were some of the first big money game shows since the 21 scandal of the 50s. So the chance to win a big prize was a once in a lifetime thing. Not at all like today “I lost, so I’ll buy another powerball ticket tomorrow.
It,s so ironic that the late Jan Murray (host of the original 1950,s Treasure Hunt) made numerous appearances on The Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall & I,m surprised the late Geoff Edwards of The New Treasure Hunt didn,t also appeared on The Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall.
Rose Evans may have been large like a Samoan, but was actually Jamaican, she and family very strong when they picked Geoff Edwards up.That was an extremely strong family. Geoff was phenomenal on Jackpot and even subbed for Monty Hall on at least one episode of the All New Let's Make A Deal.
Not an NBC show--it was syndicated. To further complicate the matter, the first two seasons of the show were taped at ABC in Hollywood, and during the show's run, it aired on stations owned and operated by CBS.
They should bring this show back on the air but they should give the guys a chance as much as the ladies. However the grand prize should be $2,500,000 along with 2 brand new cars.Still have all the other prizes & klunks in the numbered boxes--BUT NO FUR COATS!! the fur coat days are long gone. The show should be called SUPER TREASURE HUNT!! or TREASURE HUNT DELUXE!!
She, Rose Evans actually went Jamaican on Geoff Edwards, rest his soul. She and family extremely strong. You didn't want to get them upset. BTW, Geoff Edwards actually subbed for Monty Hall on at least one episode of LMAD. Great host, lucky with 1 of 3 ladies to help the contestant choosing a box.
I’m surprised they did not wiped the “Treasure Hunt”. The networks and to a small extent, the producers of all these 70’s game shows erased most of their shows. I wonder why?
I know this is a chuck barris game show, but don't that piano music, when introducing the fur, sound like A Time for Tony (future WOF prize cue, when though WOF didn't exist yet)?
I saw an old "New Yorker" magazine ad about 3 minutes in. Was this recorded from a (cable) network's airing, or from a local station's broadcast of the show?
I just thought of this!!--what would have made THE NEW TREASURE HUNT much better!!--for each time the $25,000 check wasn,t picked should've been put into a TREASURE HUNT JACKPOT & let it accumilate until it was finally won.IF THAT WERE TO HAPPEN THEY WOULD NOT ONLY WIN THE BIG JACKPOT AS WELL AS THE $25,000 CHECK THEY PICKED BUT ALSO EVERYTHING ON THE STAGE!!--ALL THE PRIZES & ALL OTHER CASH BONUSES FOR A TOTAL OF OVER $200,000 PLUS THE JACKPOT.😮WOW!! THAT WOULD HAVE MADE TV GAME SHOW HISTORY!!
i swear it was this show, but i remember a game show at this time that was ACTUALLY a treasure hunt. they had a big pond with fake piled up sand islands on it and the contestants had to earn their way onto an island and actually dig up a treasure. i thought it was this one, and that they had changed it due to the cost or something. if i made it up, it would make a good game show, i think....this isn't quite as exciting.....
@@witherblaze It's "Treasure Isle," which aired on ABC for about a year in 1967-68. It was billed as television's first outdoor game show, taped at the Colonnades Beach Hotel in Palm Beach Shores, Florida. John Bartholomew Tucker was the host.
They make things very difficult for people, too tricky.Jean, for sure was disappointed and badly tricked by Geoff Edwards.Dang.Kept1,825,a trumpet, but really $14,000 check. If I had her game,I would've gone for the box.
2 points I wanna raise about what SchizoidMan said: 1. If not a million, I'd settle for at least $100k 2. I actually don't mind the Klunk music; I even want it as my ringtone!
I remember as a kid watching this show in the 70s. So fun!!!
I came arcoss this video by accident. This was a great show. I hadn't seen this before, because it was before my time. I remember Geoff Edwards was the California lottery host for a while in the 1980's.
One of Chuck Barris' best shows,IMO.
Truly!! Did you catch Chuck in the "party" scene with the first contestant here?

I never realized how good Geoff was - I'm sure at least some of his prize reveals were totally ad-libbed.
They weren’t ad libbed, but during the commercial when the contestant is deciding to keep the money, Geoff is getting a briefing from the producer about the basics of the sketch.

Really enjoy watching these old episodes. Thanks for posting!
Johnny Jacobs a legend in game show voice overs.

@timothy4545 - I agree, one of many announcing legends (I have multiple favorites myself)
My second favorite show! RIP Geoff Edwards
Judy won an entire kitchen and a trip to Frankfurt Germany worth $8,452.66, this is a good 1974 Treasure Hunt episode!!
The $1,400 in beef in 1974 was about 1,000 pounds. Several years of Sunday steak dinners.
@2:52, is that the Freddy Cannon's song Palisades Park?
Chuck Barris wrote that song, besides producing this show 😊
Yup. He was also the dude on the far right in the yellow construction hat
Poor Jean. She thought she was playing it safe by keeping the money in the envelope. She looked disappointed when she found out it WASN'T a klunk. Sometimes you gotta take a chance.

Poor Geoff Edwards, how did he not get hurt with all the contestants hugging him.
That was one of my favorite game shows as I was getting ready to graduate from Elementary School and about to enter High School
Love this music, if I'm not mistaken, that's from The Dating Game with Jim Lange, great commercial music always.
And The Newlywed Game.

Always loved this show reminded me bit of lets make a deal, the guy in the derby hat was always serious never seen him smile once on the show.
I used to love this show
Bring back this show to TV!
2:50-3:00-- You can hear Palisades Park by Freddy Cannon as a cue.
Those were awesome car choices
$14,000?! That hurts.
$14,000
Plus, she lives in Barstow.
OUCH
@@antoniocastello1351 OUCH! $ 14,000 WHY SHE WON'T TAKE A CHANCE
Damn !! I pay $19,000 for them 2 Jaguars !! And $11,000 for a 1937 Rolls Royce - Geepers that cheap.
I, as a car-crazy teenager, always, watched the show, to see which cars were going to show up; this is a great video; thanks, for posting it!
NBC written all over it!! Geoff Edwards was an NBC employee until he went to work for the California Lottery.
Not an NBC show--it was syndicated. To further complicate the matter, the first two seasons of the show were taped at ABC in Hollywood, and during the show's run, it aired on stations owned and operated by CBS.
this show was funny especially the gag prizes and how he would tease them on what was in it

Palisades Park was a Chuck Barris song sung by Freddy.
Combination of Let's Make A Deal and Deal Or No Deal.

Ouch! Always go for the box!

1:38 - Contestant #3 went "Samoan" on Geoff.
I know this is a chuck barris game show, but don't that piano music, when introducing the fur, sound like A Time for Tony (future WOF prize cue, when though WOF didn't exist yet)?
We will NEVER EVER know what # box had the two jags in it.
I would watch this show with my mom I would always pick the box with the check of $25.000 in it she would look at me like your amazing true story😁
I had no idea that they used Freddie Cannon's "Palisades Park" as a bumper
AnErrorOccurred That’s because Chuck Barris wrote the song. Since Chuck also produced this show, there you are, extra royalties for Chuck.
RIP!! GEOFF EDWARDS JOHNNY JACOBS EMILE AUTUORI NAOMI DEVARGUS CHUCK BARRIS & JAN MURRAY(HOST OF THE ORIGINAL 50,S TREASURE HUNT)
I saw an old "New Yorker" magazine ad about 3 minutes in. Was this recorded from a (cable) network's airing, or from a local station's broadcast of the show?
RIP:Geoff Edwards
I never knew he had passed; I did hear of Jim Lange's passing, which was some amount of time before this.
SuperPat88
We lost Geoff a week after Jim.
And RIP Chuck Barris, Johnny Jacobs and John “The Fox” Dorsey.
Anyone ever noticed that the "Klunks" on Treasure Hunt weren't outright klunks on the show but actually led to a bigger and more valuable prize??
No, that's not always the case.
Sometimes.
But sometimes a klunk really is a klunk.
UNBELIVABLE Would ya say she lierally blew $14.000 WOW RIP Chuck Barris
9:01 in... Would that be Chuck Barris?
Yes, he would often be in a skit now and then in the beginning.
I'm thinking so
still going to revive the show?
They are like zonks, aren't they?
I suspect Monty Hall had the word "zonk" copyrighted so Chuck Barris had to pick an alternative word: "klunk".
10:05 BOO-HISS
10:04 Heartbreaking moment.
I saw the box I wanted immidiately on the first round, and it had the grand prize in it. Darn-it'
The frigen anxiety
We're still pitching, yes.
Damn damn damn!!!!
Judy don't want that camper and them dirt bikes. What she gonna do with that?
If your gonna do revivial, your gonna have to do Let's Make a Deal reloaded.
i don't think they are gave boxes to the guys i never seen a male contestant in all the times i seen this show
Oh no
Geoff was the best
That's all right
During the first game, that guy with the mustache and white shirt looks like Murray Langston, aka The Unknown Comic.
1974.

The "Klunk" music sounds like a "Match Game '7x" think cue.
