  • I've finally gotten away for a one night camping trip to the Eastern Macdonnell Ranges, a sometimes forgotten part of Central Australia as most folks rush out to the western side. pulling up for camp at Arltunga bush pub. what an adventure!

Great video, beautiful scenery and so good to see a youtube video of someone camping with only whats required, not overloaded with too much unnecessary gear.

Cheers mate, for sure! I honestly hate having a crazy set-up with unnecessary stuff. You really don't need a $30000 canopy outfit. But each to their own.

Now that's what I call a steak sandwich. It looks like you're overnighter turned into a chillaxing short break. I've done that before. I drove 2hrs to get to a riverside campsite, only to pack up and leave 2.5hrs later due to a severe thunderstorm that started. I had to drive over two ford crossing to get to that spot, and I didn't want to get stuck there in case the river rose. So I left before that happened. Sometimes, things just go as planned. Oh well.

I’m 100% with ya about that fold out table mate. I was blowing up about one on Anzac Day, you almost need 3 arms to set it up and pack it up. I just take the larger one camping these days and keep that little one at home as a spare.

    Nice vid mate.
I totally agree with you. East Macky is the most neglected but very picturesque area.
Me and family visited this area sept 2023 and found very quiet but very scenic.
Yes visited Arltunga and was thinking why no one done up this hotel and bring the old glory back in.
Good luck with your old man and partner for the decision.
Looking forward to visit this area again soon (hopefully few nights in Ruby Gap)

Fck those original swags - they dont cut it in times like this or when its pissing down.

Good advertisement for Central Australia. The poor flies didnt get a mention though 😢 keep a face net in your car so handy. I know its hard to have a beer but there worthwile. East McDonnell is just as good as the west for sure. Just has the element of adventure and the magic of the land not as commercial feeling as the west. Im glad i come up an seen your backyard mate doesnt disappoint at all. Did a late arvo drive from finke yesterday to alice for a supply run. Camera will never show the magic of how epic an the glow of the red hey. Good stuff epsiode. Apparently im off to mount dare, or dalhouise or eringa or Charlotte waters next weekend. Stunning part of the outback thats for sure. Was shocked you cut up dead tree, for firewood, which is part to the beauty in the landscape. Then light a fire on the ground, and properly left behind unhurt wood charcoal and ash that would take years to disappear. Why not bring firewood and afire pit? This is as bad as campers leaving used toilet paper and litter behind

Cheers mate, I ran the GXL wheels for a while and they are great but they are too narrow for 33's. So I decided to go to the tried and true sunraysia style steel rim. 16x8 ROH black track. Rears are neg 22, fronts are 0 offset. It's a good set-up however I may be changing the tyre/rim combo once these tyres wear out, purely to try something different.
